There are pleanty of eyesores out there. Like I mentioned before, theres the house with the building crap on E 10th on the north side of the street just before you leave town. I drove by there about a week ago and he was reving up an old snowmobile that was so loud I could hear it with the windows closed! Theres also the old gas station just across the creek on Superior St. So... there's pleanty to be had.

The old SA has a lot of potential for many types of busineses. What they need is a bigger for sale sign facing north and south so people on 45 will see it. Unless you're sitting in 2 Angels and happen to look across the street and see the little for sale sign that's on the front of the canopy you most likely wouldn't know it was for sale.

I think a lot of people in this town talk big in like what they would do and so forth. But only a few seem to have the ambition to get right down and fix up these buildings or houses. We are seeing a few doing this and its nice to see. One thing true is that there is no shortage of things to fix up in this town.

I would have to agree with some of the folk here, it seems that a lot of the "bigger business" we get in town just want to keep a hold on the lessor one's that have to struggle to make ends meet. Iv'e only been in town since Aug. 2011 and just recently started to put my name out as a business.. Here's the catch I run my business from my home.. I'm not wealthy by any means, and I live in a mobile home cause that is what I can afford right now, it needs work but it doesn't make me any less of a person for trying.. There is so much that can be done with some of these old buildings besides tearing them down all the time, Hell Id run my business out of one as well as hold a spot where patrons (adults/kids) can come in get online, play some games and if I found the right place even run it as a Internet Cafe as it turns out I happen to be a certified cook as well. I think there is a lot of people that say "I could do something with that building" but never do cause much like me we are all broke, or can't find the right investors.

Speaking of the old Super America, I remember a friend of mine telling me about all the milk and other things that are still visible in the coolers yet. Now that the city may condem the place, I wonder if they peeked into the windows and noticed that in there. I wouldn't want to be the person that has to open the cooler doors to clean all of that out of there.

Show up at meetings and get better information. There are going to be a lot of choices regarding the refacing of the downtown area coming soon! Such as layout of parking and things. 5th ave will be completely reconstructed in summer of 2013, with the complete design done and in place by Aug. 2012 (after the Hwy 64 bypass is completed)

You are mistaken Alexis or you are speaking of the county meetings. Council meetings you do have to sign in and state if you comments regard something on the agenda or not. That has been in the council rules for over 10 years but was not enforced until Mike Matousek became mayor. No one approves or disapproves of the topic, you get to speak and have 5 minutes to do so. This allows EVERYONE a chance to be heard and not just a chosen few. If you stopped coming to meetings because they would not let you speak without prior approval I am not sure what meetings you were going to. Even a committee meeting which has an open forum for speaking has a "other topics" section where the public can bring a topic forward for discussion and referral to an agenda. I will grant you that it can be a hard process to get your voice heard sometimes and frustrating to say the least, but my frustration comes in with the lack of action on topics that can be solved but aren't. Everyone has an idea how to fix a problem right until they find out the trust cost to the taxpayer, then it all falls apart. Tilting at windmills I guess.

Funny, I quit going to meetings when they would no longer let you speak without prior approval.
It's kinda hard to talk about unsetteling issues when they won't let you open your mouth.
Did I hear something recently that the prior approval requirement for speaking has been deemed illegal???????? How ironic.

Nice to see all these wonderful comments being made to the Mayor and council members at the monthly meetings held so that people can speak their opinions in an open forum. Trust me, they laugh at blogs because of the inaccurrate information that is perpetuated in them. Show up at the meetings and make a difference. Saying nothing gets you nowhere, so does not voting. City government has a limit to what they can and cannot do with your tax dollars. They cannot "bring" big businesses or factories, they can only give tax breaks to those who want to start a business or factory here. Get educated on how government really works, they step up and change what you don't like.
