KUDOS to the author of the “TAXPAYERS & CITIZENS” article in Antigo Shoppers Guide
Someone has FINALLY said it – voiced their views about the Law Enforcement here in Antigo and the problems with it. I am in TOTAL agreement with this person. If you haven’t read the article, it is in the Antigo Shoppers Guide September 18th issue on page 4.
I, too, believe that there is corruption and favoritism by the Antigo Police. It is something that has been going on as long as I can remember. It sure would be nice to see something done about it.
It would be great to hear from the author of this article and, if possible, have the entire article posted on this site. I would like to see comments by other local residents regarding this issue.

TAXPAYERS & CITIZENS
Recently, the Manitowoc Mayor and City Council made a fair but bold move to have an independent review of their city’s police department, something I believe most citizens feel is long overdue here in Antigo. As a result, three officers, including their chief, were removed pending further investigation. These “reviews” or “probes” are going on quietly throughout our state.
I believe most of our citizens don’t know where to file complaints and/or feel intimidated by law enforcement, fearing retaliation by them. Believe me, I have the same feelings. I believe my freedom could be at risk just for these few lines. But as Americans we are historically known for standing up and being heard! “Freedom of Speech.”
There are many forms of police corruption or activities we should not put up with. Such as: profiling and pulling over approximately 165 people without cause, good ol’ boy policies (giving the rich or friends breaks while riding the backs of the poor), police lying under oath (and not being fired for it), intimidation tactics, destabilizing families to gain information, abuse of power, planting evidence, openly disrespecting low-income citizens, even disrespectful dispatchers.
You should know citizens, that law enforcement police themselves. There is no real checks and balances in the law enforcement system, something our legislature can easily fix by forcing all law enforcement personnel to be licensed by the state. That way the state could rid us easily of corrupt or ethically bankrupted cops. They already license RN’s, doctors, lawyers, etc. The police two-year course should be doubled to four years with a stronger emphasis on ethics and corruption.
Power is a seducing thing and can easily be abused, and many people feel it’s happening here.
Call Mayor Matousek at 623-3633 ext 150 and request an independent review of our law enforcement that would allow public testimony.
Then call Senator Breske at 1-800-334-8773 and tell him to sponsor legislation that would force law enforcement to be licensed.
Remember, citizens, the police exist solely to SERVE and PROTECT, the rich as well as the poor equally. “Something I think they’ve forgotten.”
Update: Regarding the 165 citizens pulled over in Antigo over the past 3 months: I received a phone call from Senator Breske stating that “the statutes are clear, citizens are not to be stopped while driving for no reason,” much less profiled. He stated “to do so would be illegal.”
The police may have committed illegal acts against our citizens in their seemingly reckless thirst for drug bonus money in a job that already pays well. If true, we should expect terminations and possible lawsuits.
Breske further states that people should file complaints with the Fire & Police Commissioner Robert Hunter at 715-627-4082. Citizens can remain anonymous. Also, you may contact Attorney General J.B. VanHollen at 608-266-1221.
I personally would recommend a good attorney such as William Mansell at 715-849-5700.

Charter sucks period. Time Warner is much better, I wish we had it here.
I personally know the low life biker wannabe at the Petticoat Junction bar. The org. Brother to Brother should be checked into because I know the president does have drug charges pending and has failed to register with the WI Sexual Offenders Web Site for second degree sexual assault of a child. I have known this low life for years and I have witnessed this person use other peoples money for his personal gain through lies and deciet. That is why I think the Brother to Brother Org. should be checked into. How much is he pocketing for drug money and to make his payments on his personal debts. Someone who has TRUST within the community should handle the raffle for the Harley.
Yeah – he’s a real gem. That whole group is a joke. Did you know that one of their other original biker gang member is the guy who has a trial coming up for trying to have his ex-wife whacked? Model members of society if you ask me! Just who we want our children and our community exposed to.
I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing. How can people with felonies even be allowed to run a charity organization. People like that make a bad rap for the rest of the bikers that are good people and try hard to do good in the community. I think the public should know what kind of person they are giving money to and I think the brother to brother organization should have to by law, show a track record on how much money came in and how it is spent. You just can’t trust a felon in charge of something like this. When the money bank is large enough he can just disappear.

If it is a ‘True’ Non-For Profit Organization, they are required by law to file taxes and they have to disclose all of that information to public record. They might just ‘call’ themselves a legit organization – in which case people should think twice about donating.
Does anyone know who the person is that actually owns the Petticoat Junction Bar? Darwin can’t be the owner because a convicted felon can not obtain a liquor license. Quote me if I’m wrong.
When the liquor license was obtained, there was actually a note in the paper about that, and it stated that Sheila obtained the license, which is the wife of the man talked about in earlier posts.

Lets talk about you guys filming, and how we can safely do it. Like I said, I see no problem with filming segmants….just not the whole show.
there are options as to where you film I think, and it is safe. We have a turn 2 tower in the back stretch, thats where channel 12, and “in the groove” is usually filmed.I see it as advertising what Langlade County Speedway has to offer for racing entertainment. I wish we had the bicycle race on tape lol

Jim, why don’t you contact the channel 3 folks and let them know about upcoming events or provide them with a schedule?
Just an update on Channel 3 and where it’s headed. It’ll be moving to 96 I believe, and it should still work for those with basic cable. It’ll be on 983 I think too. If you’re are Charter subscriber, you got a letter with that info. But as far as I know, it’s stay at 96 is indefinite and may be relegated to 983 somewhere in the next 6 months to 2 years.
So I’m wondering for the few that are on here, how many of you actually watch channel 3, or know people who do? I do watch regularly. But I see so many dishes around town that I figure not many people have Charter anyway.
What do you guys think if the channel 3 folks started a grown-up youtube like website for their Antigo content?

I like Channel 3 now that it’s updated quicker. The Fall sports assembly at AHS was on the night it happened, not 8 weeks later like it used to be. I feel sorry for whoever is paying for their shirts and equipment…first they had to embroider everything channel 3, and now 96?

Does it bother anyone else that this man who runs Petticoat Junction & is supposedly a sex offender has children himself? I remember seeing a picture in the paper of him,his wife & like 3 children. I remember the look on one of the childrens faces…. a vacant, sad look. I was a victim of sexual abuse by my father, as was most if not all of my 10 siblings. I have seen that same look in photographs of my family members.It is a look you will never forget….Is any one watching this man???
I too have seen him with his kids and no wife was with him. I too question this because on his sex offender profile it states that custody/supervision is terminated and he is a life register. So i do not know about this however if they are not on parole or probation for anything they can do as they please. And if u call the cops to check in on this within so many times they can say that the police are harassing them. Guess it doesnt bother the people who like to frequent his bar. or maybe they just stop in to pick up the drug of the day.
