Langlade County Humane Society – We want to help!

It is a disappointment to me that the Langlade County Humane Society does not already have a website and I am sure this is due to lack of funding. As a local resident I feel it would be a good advertising outlet for them. As such, as webmaster of antigobuzz.com, I would be more than happy to create a page for this purpose and update it, etc. With the hours of operation for the Langlade County Humane Society, I think a webpage would provide a good tool for people to see the available animals any time, day or night. Here’s hoping we can work together and get something setup!

—————UPDATE!————–

After talking to some people, we have now added to our site the animals for adoption at the Langlade County Humane Society! Please, if you are looking for a pet, adopt one!

———-UPDATE 04/15/08———————

The following email was received by a member of the Humane Society.  This is a prime example of what we are working against.  We have decided not to honor their request.

As a member and volunteer of the Langelade Humane Society, I’m requesting that you please remove the current Humane society blog. I am asking on behalf of the residents (animals), and employees’ request. It is obvious it is being used out of animosity, and the information is being construed to the public to the point it is detremental to the harmony of the shelter.

  1. ddddd says:

Blah Blah Blah! Everytime we have tried to volunteer in any way for this cause, all we ever get is pulled in every direction by people trying to get us on this side or that side. There should only be ONE side! The side of the animals. ENOUGH!!! This has been going on for years! If it isn’t the latest “board” it was the one before, or the one before that. These people will spend all their time trying to recruit new volunteers and then sneak around trying to get the new people to vote the old ones out. WHAT ABOUT THE ANIMALS??? When there is nothing current to fight about amongst themselves, they start fighting with the vet. I’d like to sneak up there and let all the animals free! They’d have a better chance. WHAT A JOKE! SHUT UP AND TAKE CARE OF THE ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. disalusioned says:

ALLELUIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Somebody finally gets it. Except most of the staff is very good with the animals and they shouldn’t be punished through this feud that has been going on for years.

  3. Common Sense says:

Common sense doesn’t appear to be “practiced” by the shelter in Antigo.
Sadly, “No kill” shelters are not realistic or practical. I would think that the two main reasons animals end up at a shelter is abandonment and too many animals born that can’t be cared for.
I was suprised to find out that the shelter doesn’t screen better for adoption. There are many people who think they want a pet but change their minds after they have adopted. I would think that the shelter has some sort of “trial” period for adoption, as most do, but if the shelter did the work at the “front end” by screening people carefully, hopefully animals wouldn’t be returned, abandoned (which adds to the feral cat population) or perhaps abused or even killed. If you don’t think there are weidos out there, remember the guy who adopted a cat and was going to make the cat his dinner.
The second problem, overpopulation, must be addressed agressively and it sounds like the new organization, AAAA, is trying to do just that. I thought it was awesome that the AAAA even has volunteers from outside of the Antigo area.
Finally, it is very sad that there has been a rift between the new vet and the shelter. However, if I were a business owner who had been generous in my giving of time or money to a non-profit organization, I also would be very disturbed if that organization “bad-mouthed” my business. Would you continue to give your time or money to an organization that did that to your business?
In closing: Support our local businesses! It helps all of us!

  4. Think about the animals ONLY !!!!!! says:

So TRUE!!! I think it is terrible that so called adults have nothing better to do then. TALK ABOUT ONE ANOTHER. I do not care who said what or who did what. Or who thinks there ideas are better or they do more work. STOP your crying and start taking care of the animals. You in Antigo could learn a few things from Marathon County Humane Society. As well as other Humane Society’s !!!!!!!!!!! Start working for the poor animals that need a home. Start caring for the animals and thinking of them first not your self.Trust me they did not ask to be brought there. They have already been rejected. Now you Antigo are rejecting all the help everyone is trying to give. Just because you do not like whom ever. GET OVER IT !!!! You may not have like what ever Dr. Sarha said or did. But I feel sure she did not care for a lot of things as well. But life is not perfect. So all the people that can not get along get over your self. You are far from being perfect. You are not being very Christin about this at all. You need a prayer group not a B*TCH group!!!!!!!!!!!! Please remember you treat people as you would like to be treated. And for the lady that is in charge of the Time For Paws. I do not think no one could ever please you. You have something to complain about daily !!!!!!!! Help and Be Quite. Or set aside. Everyone is tired of hearing how much you do and no one else cares but you. I think you need to look at your self.

  5. Truth B. Told says:

Thankyou Admin. for taking alot of the Bad words / paragraphs off of this site, I think it should be a Help sight, wich is why I started to put GOOD thing about people and the shelter on here to begin with, wich you all know turned in to a baby fight over who was worng or right. It is truley ashame that this sight was used a crutch for the insecure to fight behind closed doors, maybe as time goes on and this sight is used for what it was intended for , people can use there real names because the only things being said will be true and positive. ! As for me I’m enjoying my spring, and the beauity arround me, I see that the shelter is able to use the Freedom Run now that the snow is gone and it looks to me that the dogs realy enjoy it. They are getting ready to have there annual fundraiser and it sounde like fun it’s Disco theemed that should be fun fun fun. Maybe there will be Voulenteering in my future, I have alot to offer, We don’t know what the future will bring but we can take it in Strides or have a Gruny moment it’s your choice, I’d prefer the calm thought through approch my self.
    Well Everyone Just Breath !
DonT READ BEYOND THIS POINT IF YOU DON’t HAVE A SENCE of HUMOR
“and yes I know some of you can’t do this so if you hold your breath & pass out the rest of won’t have to listen to you.”

  6. ???? says:

Do you know how to spell or what spell check is??

  7. Truth B. Told says:

my spelling does not define me!

  8. Jerry Muelver says:

Truth B. Told says: “my spelling does not define me!”

You are only half correct. In the real world, we are defined by our relationships. But in the digital virtual world, in public postings on an open forum, under a pseudonym in most cases, spelling and grammar are all we have on which to base our opinions of the message, and the messenger! They are one and the same. So, the characteristics of your message are in fact what defines you here. It’s up to you to control the definition and image others have of you on this forum.

  9. ???? says:

    Very well said Jerry

  10. getreal says:

Agree very well said Jerry! Probably the most profound statement on this entire website. LOL!

  11. Truth B. Told says:

Thanks Jerry, I take no offence to your statment, I’m not here to judg or be judged, nor am I going to be offended away. I for one am very glad I Live in the Real World and do not live in or on my computer, the things I say or in this case post are to be an upper or sorts for the sake of the shelter, ” wich I’m sure none of you have visited lately” if some people wish to be negitive twords me and my spelling they will always be negitive, and may be the utmost of ” Neggitive Nannies” on this site, some people are never happy. I’m sorry for you. As for me and all the people that know me, know I have alot of good to say and it doesn’t matter to them ” the only people that count” wether I sound like an unedgamaketed babbeling bafoon of not . The real problem here is there is nothing to B#%*h about right now and I seem to be the panZy of the sight . Thanks, I have herd of spell check and don’t have it ! and is it not obvious that I can’t spell. you guys make me laugh thanks for bring some comedy to my day!

  12. Truth B. Told says:

the shelters big fundraiser event is just arround the corner, this night has proven in the past to be one of the best night out events of the year, if you havent got your ticket yet you better call the shelter and fiond out how to get one, you don’t want to miss the great food and the bubbly, the theme is Disco, how cool is that, I’ve gon the last years but I regret I am unable to make it this year.
I understand that there are many OLD OLD dogs at the shelter right now that are looking for respite/obvious short term homes, you know there are at least 10 homes out of the 2,000+ homes in the area that are ideal and have the equipment to house and care properly for a senior dog or two. The senior dog is just old, not dead, they need all the stuff a pup or an adult dog needs just less of it, but the same amount of LOVE. In the past I’ve cared for and rehomed more than 9 dogs 8 yr – 13 yr and some at the same time, all they need is structure and reutine, and LOVE. If you think you could be a doggie savior please call the shelter there are 6 dogs there waiting for “senior living – care homes”

  13. Polarmiss says:

We only adopt senior dogs. They are so grateful, kind and loving. Plus they sleep alot:) Low maintence for sure. Give a senior dog a chance!

  14. Truth B. Told says:

there is a super seinior dog @ the humane society right now He is about 12 or so and house broke and spends most of his days in the office over there ther thought he was a sheep dog mix or a some specialty breed. He’a all shaved and looking pretty he has lots of Fatty Lumps that don’t effect him at all. You could be the one to give this great guy the best summer of his life ! they also have a shep X and a springer X that came together one is 10 and the other is 12 yr. They have a Standered Poodle cross thats 12 or so and SWEET as can be, they have 2 Lab X that are 9 & 10 and a couple of seinior lawn sharks too. ( small Breeds ), DON”T LET THESE WONDERFUL DOGS DIE @ THE SHELTER let them live in a new home for the little time they have left or OPEN YOUR DOOR and become a foster family today.

  15. Joseph says:

On July 18th at 330 there is a court session for a woman who was accused of mistreating animals….I hope they toss her sorry butt in jail for what she did to those poor unsuspecting animals. Susan was found with numerous cats in her house, starved, malnourished, and dead as well as dogs and a dead horse sitting on her property. My goodness, how can anyone be so cruel to animals….what did they ever do to you Susan? You should be put in a jail cell without food and water so you know what you put those animals through…you are an evil woman and I would encourage all supporters of animal rights to be at your court hearings!

  16. Melsays says:

You think what she did to the animals was bad? Wait til it comes out how she treated her husband who has alzheimers.

  17. byrd lady says:

i know first hand the number of cats and dogs susan had but i never pictured her to be that nasty to them i guess i didn’t know her at all. i hope she get what she deserves for the trama she put those poor babies through.

  18. Truth B. Told says:

The animals had food and water so she should have that, but she should have it in a room to small for a bed with no toilet, because those cats “naturally clean animals” had no litter boxes no place to dig and burry their poo, I can imagine 2 cats in a house but can you imagine
30 + with no poo boxes in sight? Because of the amount of animals, and unclean conditions, in the home they had URV “Upper Respatory Virus ” and Conjuntvitious ” pink eye” and flees and more, all easy to treat\prevent, even in the barn, Can you imagine having no choices to live in that squaller or not? Her poor husband had no choise and those cats with kittens had no choice the moms were so sick they couldn’t care for them shelf, much less their babies.
Some of the cats that were rescued were @ the shelter and adopted. The alive horse went to rescue. Thank goodness for Shelters and Rescue groups. And People who care about People !

  19. animal lover says:

Be forewarned everyone!!!! It is my understanding-coming from an EXTREMELY reliable source that Susan will be getting a “Slap on the Hand” i.e. probation for the terrible things she has done to those poor animals!!! How can this be? There was a dead horse, and one that had to be put down, dozens of cats mostly all ill and dogs that no one could get near because of how vicious they were. Something is wrong with this picture and we should all be there when this case comes up. There is strength in numbers and this kind of thing should not be happening. The justice system is to leniant on this type of thing.

  20. Truth B. Told says:

There was one horse down and yes it shoulde have been removed after dying, the other was transfered and was not put down, but she was 30 + years young so she could be gone now thou, the dogs were Very scared and not socalized with the out side world, Plus there were Strangers on there property, the cats “not all ill” and the FILTH in the house was the worst, and YES she most likely will get just that SLAP Langlade Co. and other Smaller Co.’s arn’t up to the times with Animal Cruelity she should get Slapped with Human Neglect and Indagerment and suspended from having animals for years, cause it’s obvious that she couldn’t keep up with the ones she had much getting more. If you are gona show at the Trial Have you facts, be profesional, and be Adults, She is a strong forsefull lady that thinks she did nothing wrong and no one is gone change that.

  21. byrd lady says:

she needs to know that what she did is wrong and that wrong doing gets punished. there is to much that goes on that goes unpunished and that is wrong. yes, we who know her need to show up at her next court date and let the force that is that something more then a slap on the hand is just not acceptable in this town. we need to stand up for those who have no voice.

  22. animal lover says:

I have recently found out and KNOW FOR A FACT!!!! that thankfully the 30 year old horse is alive and well. This animal was not yet meant to die, obviously. Yes, she is a strong forceful lady, but I know more about this situation than you realize, and know more of the facts than I am willing to share. Also, do you think that it is normal for someone to have that many animals to begin with? Truth Be Told—YOU need to know YOUR facts as you obviously don’t.

  23. Truth B. Told says:

But you said you know for a fact!!!!!!! Did your first Reliable source inform you that the ALIVE horse was dead, and give you all the other info. too ?
Did you make the call to the horse rescue when the call came in or something ????
This is between you and me I know who you are do you know who I am ?
Don’t you tell me that I need to know the facts, I know more than YOU think, and It’s not your info to tell that belongs to the cort.

  24. Truth B. Told says:

    Polarmiss,
How are your Seinor dogs doing ? you know some of the Oldies but Goodies are still at the shelter !

    To all others,
June is ADOPT A CAT MONTH Did you know that Almost all if not ALL the cats @ the Langlade Shelter are Fixed and ready to go home that saves alot of $ for the adopter they also do FLV testing as young as 8-12 weeks and all are UPD and wormed. ” kittens are not fixed ”
Think of the Seinor Cats @ the shelter there are 2 Angoras there one black 10 yr. and one white 15 yr. and alot of others are 7 yrs. and up.
You all should go to the shelter and see the cats. Donate caned cat food for the Kitten Season !!!!!!

  25. animal lover says:

I have no clue who you are and don’t think that I want to know. I do have one question for you though. What in heavens name is a cort? And—Nope! The reliable source did not tell me the horse was dead only about the slap on the hand. Any more questions?

  26. Truth B. Told says:

you all know how HOT it’s been in our area, the animal shelter has cards about ” when hot is to hot to leave your dog in the car ” yes I know it’s common sence But many don’t have it. Please stop by the shelter and pick up a fiew to have in your car, if you see a situation that needs a kind kick, also call the police dept. if you see a PET or CHILD in a car @ 70 degrees or higher even if the windows are open, get the facts and touch every life you incounter this summer and fall season.
they also have ideas @ petfinder.com on how to keep your pets cool in the sun, from gallon ice cubes / with toys frozen in then, for the dogs to play with to cool treats for summer.

  27. Truth B. Told says:

Never leave your pet unattended in a parked car for any period of time. On a warm day, the temperature in a parked car can reach 120F in a matter of minutes — seven with the car windows partially open. Your pet can quickly suffer brain damage or die from heatstroke or suffocation when trapped in high temperatures.

This is what you should do if your pet is exposed to high temperatures:

•Be alert for the signs of heat stress — heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, a staggering gait, vomiting, or a deep red or purple tongue.
•If your pet becomes overheated, you must lower his body temperature immediately.
•Move your pet into the shade and apply cool (not cold) water all over her body to gradually lower her body temperature.
•Apply ice packs or cold towels to your pet’s head, neck, and chest only.
•Let your pet drink small amounts of cool water or lick ice cubes.
•Finally, take your pet directly to a veterinarian — it could save your pet’s life.
If you see an animal in a car exhibiting any signs of heat stress, call your local animal care and control agency or police department immediately!

You don’t just expose your pet to the dangers of heat stress when you leave him in a car, you also expose him to pet theft. Thousands of pets are stolen each year from unattended cars.

Taking your pet for a ride may seem like fun, but many pets prefer to spend time with you in the comfort and safety of your home. Explore activities that you and your pet can share at home and avoid taking risks by leaving your pet in the car.

If you must take your pet with you in your car, do so safely: Cats should ride in pet carriers, and dogs should ride in travel crates or be on a leash. When a pet travels, she should wear two ID tags — one with a home address and one with a destination address.

  28. Shalimar says:

Hmmmm…Is “Truth B. Told” Jenna Nelson, former employee of the Langlade County Humane Society’s shelter? Let’s figure this out. 1) Awful, awful spelling…Jenna was like that 2) very knowledgeable about the shelter animals during her tenure…Jenna was like that. 3) Was seen hitting a dog in the face….this was documented by a member as Jenna doing that 4) Got fired…Jenna is no longer there. 5)Mentions the awful conditions & filth at the horse ladies house….Have you ever been to Jenna’s house? I have….Suffice it to say that Mr. Clean does not live there.

  29. ilovepitbulls says:

    j is a bad spelling dumba$$

  30. Truth B Told says:

jenna may be clutterfull, and a realy bad speller, and she may have gotten fired, but she is not Vindictave, rud, or mean like some people are she wouldn’t tell you that your lil $#%*&^’s for saying things about people that you don’t even know and for being seceretive about your idenity “using code names ” like you do. She brought a lot of nice respective things to this page, to the shelter and to the community, things that normal nice people wish to hear and respond to. NOTE: most normal nice peolpe don’t respond to anything on this page” unlike your self’s that wallow in negivity and wern’t taught correctly by there parents on how to respect others. I understand that some people NEVER grow up, the bullies stay bullies and hate there lifes, because there hated. So live it up Pick on the nice people, bash awayn, your friends may think your cool S*^t but the ADULT people that you need respect from won’t be there for long once they see the real you.
If you nitpick Jenna the way I think you will, koodos to you for being A$$es, you can’t bring her down, she’s got better things to worry about than you !

  31. Truth B Told says:

Shelter got there New doggie play run woop! woop! Thanks to the Girls, and the Shelter Bord. *one BIG play pen* ! it’s been a long time comming.

  32. Just Chiming In says:

I’m so surprised to see how many individuals waste their time complaining about the shelter and it’s employees. I would like to see anyone on this forum volunteer, and I mean REALLY volunteer. Walking dogs and cuddling cats, although beneficial for the animals, is not really working there. So much other work has to be done daily that doesn’t occur to most people. The employees clean, feed, and medicate the animals (among other things), while also dealing with potential customers. There are few actual employees, yet they do this day in and day out, with little regular volunteer help and all anyone in Antigo can do is complain about them. If you want things to change so badly, YOU do something about it. Help start a fundraiser or volunteer at one, make donations of money, food or time, and GET YOUR OWN HANDS dirty and help these animals instead of griping about the people who actually do. To put down these people’s professions is down right ignorant, and you should really be ashamed.
Another thing. For adults to be spending time on this forum attacking other people about spelling is ridiculous to me. Grow up. This was supposed to be meant for helping the humane society, as the name of the thread implies. Although inaccurate sometimes, Truth B Told was the only person to make positive comments about the humane society.

  33. Truth says:

wow someone else gets it yha to Just Chiming In ! you and I would make a great team. I have vol. there and have gotten the reward of a wet kiss on more then one occation.

  34. Delirum says:

does anyone know the name of the lady in white lake that goes around giving treats out to dogs on her walk from lunch?

  35. So irritated says:

Ok so the problem that I have with the Humane Society is that whenever I take my children in there to see the dogs they act like it is some sort of inconvience for them to show us the dos. My husband and I have been looking for a dog for a long time for our kids and I try to stop in at the Humane Society every once in awhile with my kids to see what they have. With that said I went to the last meeting for volunteers that the Humane Society had at the Humane Society office and the lady who is there every day and i guess is “boss” said that they dread rainy days because parents bring there kids in there just to see the animals with no intent of adopting one and while she said that she was looking right at me. I would like to know how she knows they have no intention of adopting one? Maybe they are just wanting to make sure that they are getting the correct animal especially if they have small kids. I wish the “employees” at the humane society would wake up and realize that they need to work on their customer service because without the public and good hearted citizens you WOULDN’T HAVE A JOB. They also treat their volunteers pretty crappy. I used to volunteer there and yes i do have experience with dogs. I worked for 2 years at a dog training facility in chicago and because i was MUCH younger than all of them they treated me like i didnt know what i was talking about so i got sick of the disrespect and quit volunteering and went to a different county and adopted a dog for my kids. Where the staff was kind and happy to answer questions.

  36. justmyhumbleopinion says:

Also, I NEVER see the Humane Society put a ‘thank you’ in the shopper’s guide or paper to the people who drop off aluminum cans and other donations. A ‘thank you’ might encourage people to donate more/volunteer.

A few years ago, when the HS was under different management, I dropped off some dog and cat food coupons. The manager told me, “We don’t have time for that.” :-(

I think we can all ‘take time’ to save some money nowadays.

  37. I like cattsssssssss but dogs are sweet!!!*dubstep* says:

cant we all be a little more understanding.. AND STOP jumping to conclusions??!??!?!?!?!?

I have spent hours and days calling people that filled out volunteer forms for the shelter in the past year and only one person has committed to help and ACTUALLY FOLLOWED THRU!Most never called back and the others said yes,but found one excuse or another to not follow thru. If you do not attend the monthly meeting and you do not volunteer at least one hour a week to the shelter in some compacity, either in fundraising or at the shelter, you have NO RIGHT to judge the workers for being crabby or not acting as you want them to. I’d like to see how well you act if you had to see these animals put to death because they get sick and there aren’t enough funds to hold them while they try to get well, or continue to live a caged life because not enough people will take in adult cat or dog. So stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution! I can’t say I like everybody involved at the shelter either, but I don’t stay involved because the animals need me to stay involved, just as they need you! This Feb there will be 4 openings on the board. President, Vice President, treasurer, and secretary. These people have been in this position since the new board started in 2008. I’m sure they would love to step down and take a break. Especially our president. He has suffered serious health problems and should step down to care for himself, NO ONE has ever stepped up to the plate to take over for him, but there has been plenty of critism of him. He has doubled the size of the shelter and remodled most of it with very little help if any by all the people that have filled out those volunteer application forms. Shame on you if you filled out one of these forms and have not followed thru, becaus of some little petty excuse! Count yourself as part of the problem the shelter has because of your judgementalness. Not afraid to say my name. Deb Potschaider

Go Deb, Go Deb, go, go Go Deb…….Go Deb, Go Deb, go, go, Go Deb……. U R a animal angle under cover ! Go AAUC’S Yahh !

  42. Truth says:

Go Bob, Go Bob, go, go, Go Bob………. Go Bob, Go Bob, go, go, Go Bob……… the people that don’t KNOW YOU will never Know you, there blinded by Negivity, that goes for all of you, your not always going to be liked by every one, so you must make an effort to be kind to each life you cross.

  43. Truth says:

    OK with that said,
you’ve all herd and read the ( don’t for get the animals this year… donate) line, it’s not a line per-say , It’s a fact more aniamls are given up each year espcally @ the holidays what the Go Green For Outdoor Dogs is trying to do is to help and support out door pets and there families with edu. and love and compassion, when an animal adv. of pets helps the pet they also are helping the owner in turn being a pet lover also means your a people lover because you can not help and show compassion if not to help the person that lovet the pet.
It works the same way at the shelter, those ladies are over worked and under paid for the jobs that they do each day, they live longer hours at the shelter than they do at home, they get a ear full of negivity a day, that keeps the sun shine away, and some days they are underappreciated, and in worst case made to feel underappreciated ! Please don’t for get the animals, BUT DON’T FORGET THE EMPLOYEES eather, they love flowers, and candy, and goodie basksts, and I always take them a HUGG, wich means more than anything because there compassionate, loving, sencitive, and hard working Ladies that deserve better that what they get !

  44. justmyhumbleopinion says:

Maybe they planned to volunteer, but when they brought in their application, they were greeted in a “not so friendly’ manner and changed their mind. Again, a public thank you would do wonders!

I don’t think that they don’t like people bringing there kids to look or just to come and look your self, they love to take time and talk with people to set up good connections BUT it’s the pairents that Drop off there kids, or the ones that brings her kids in and Don’t watch them and there running through the kennels and the halls and opening up cages and banging on cages those are the things that get irratating not because they don’t want you there because they HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT EVERYONES ***** SAFTY****** and if pairents want to talk about a pet then the kids must be within arms reach there are dangers @ shelters. Stress and different smells can make animals on edg and do funny things, and runnung and screaming kids can add to the dangers, I am NOT saying that your kids do that, BUT it is very real thet there are some that do !!!!

did you know that everyone that donates in person gets a heart felt thankyou, and sometimes a hugg, they have a thankyou page on there web sight and they even send out thankyou cards in the mail. if they see someone dropping off cans they give a shout out thanks. and once in a while they can put an add in the paper but they do thank you for your donations they know that without you they wouldn’t be.

to justmy humbleopinion do you know it costs money to put ads in the paper?? yes it would be wonderful if one would get a thank you published in the paper for dropping off cans and newspapers… LCHS has to feed every animal that comes in. if people would come to the monthly meetings the second thursday of the month, they would realize that there are close to 150 cats/kittens and 40 dogs… so …. to spend 20-25 dollars to say thanks in a one time ad would also buy 3 cases of dog food… monthly meeting have literature how the donations are being spent. if you want a thank you,,,i would be happy to contact a board member and have them send you a thank you… the shelter appreciates ALL the donations. that is how it runs…
antigo…get with it and support the humane society… it is about YOUR animals and pets!!!!!

Yes, I am well-aware that ads cost money. That goes without saying. AND, I have seen the Humane Society run ads. Just suggesting that a ‘Thank You’ be INCLUDED in those ads.

Also, it may frustrate people when you type posts saying, “we need MORE” this, that, and the other. Some people are giving ALL they can! With the economy, people losing their homes, I am pretty sure the LAST thing on their mind is the Humane Society, unfortunately.

Perhaps a print ad (since not all people are aware of this blog and/or do not use the internet) thanking people for past donations (large and small), but also informing them of current needs at the shelter…all with a POSITIVE tone, would encourage people to donate. Perhaps if asked nicely the Journal or the Shopper would do the ad for free, or at discount for the Holiday season.

Also, as a side note. I work full-time, but I also take time to find coupon deals to acquire items needed by the food pantry and woman’s shelter. (in the past, as I said before, I also donated coupons to the Humane Society and was told they ‘did not have time for them’. We also donated cans until I realized it was never being acknowledged.) I also belong to (and am very active in) a club that raises money to help various charities and benefits throughout Langlade County. (at one time I brought up donating to the Humane Society, and people were leary as ‘they did not know where the money was going’). Again, a print ad would help inform people.
