Antigo Cafe Now Closed — NOW REOPENED
Another downtown Antigo business has now closed its doors. Antigo Cafe is no longer in operation. It is a little ironic really, Arby’s opens up and the cafe closes. I sure hope this doesn’t become a trend.
Speaking of restaurants, and on a happier note, Two Angels Restaurant will be closing for a week or so I am told, to do some serious remodeling. Sometime in January this is to take place. It is refreshing to see that some businesses are doing well enough to improve, instead of go under!
So, add another empty building to the downtown city block where Antigo Cafe had operated. If this continues, maybe the whole downtown area will become vacant and we get some federal funding to turn it into some type of “historical” area. Maybe then it would look a little nicer?
**************UPDATE 04/03/08*************
The Cafe is now Open again. It has been renamed to: The Corner Cafe. Their hours are: 6am – 7pm Monday thru Thursday, 24 Hours on Friday & Saturday, and Sundays 6am until 7pm.
**************UPDATE 04/16/2010***********
The Corner Cafe is no longer open. There is now a For Lease sign in the window.
…

I have to agree with you. I remember as a teen growing up how the uptown was always so busy. Stores were open until 9 pm. It was a fun town then. What happened?? I don’t think the people in this town are really sure how our tax monies are getting spent! I would love for this town to be like it was when I was growing up. I would love for my kids to experience that. But I believe it may be too late for this town. We’re too far into debt. Is Antigo going to be a ghost town??
The Antigo Cafe had the WORST food in town! They didn’t even have half of what was on their menu and what they did have was always old and soggy! If you want to stay in business, you have to have decent food and also be open regular restaurant hours! It would have been a nice place to go after the movies for a bite, but they were never open then!
I loved the food at the Antigo cafe, and as for them being closed it is only until the remodeling is done. I have talked to Sam and Don myself.
Great! I am glad they are NOT closing. Maybe they are refreshing everything with a new remodel and a new menu full of good food. l’m willing to give it another try. We always try to support our town’s businesses. I hope we will find them OPEN when we’re hungry!
That would be great if Antigo Cafe would reopen, the kids enjoy going in there before & after the movies!
I drove by today, and there is a sign in the window asking for us to join them when the reopen. I do not know if it is new owners or not, but it looks like they will be up and running again soon!
According to the sign, they are stating that it is new owners that are opening the Antigo Cafe, not sure if it is or not. But, lets hope that it is better quality food, employees and customers than it was before.
Is it open yet? Can anyone give us a review?
Sign says opening April 3rd at 6am.
Well if we all want to know who owns it and if the food is good guess we should all go check it out for our selves.
I’ll definitely check it out,. I’ll try to go tomorrow. I hope it’s good and not full of smokers! We seriously need another restuarant. I’ll post a comment as soon as I have one.
The food is very good. The new owners are the same people that had the Main St. Cafe’ in Edger WI. They are very nice and very friendly.
The front of the place is for non-smokers and back is for the smokers.
I did not notice any smoke when we were there and believe me if there is much smoke I have trouble breathing.
I feel that Antigo has a very restaurant now with good prices as well.
It feels like a nice family restaurant.
DEE – Thanks for the review! We’re going in today for lunch!
HI All, Went last night for dinner, my husband said great potatoe pancakes and they are always $4.95 for all you can eat. I enjoyed the food. It was really good. Anyone know how the Friday night bar crowd was? Hopefully they had a good night. The owners are very personable and nice. We went in aroung 730 or 8pm. Not many people in the restraurant, but it gave us a chance to speak with the owners, which is always a nice little perk. Besides having the Main St. Cafe’ in Edgar they also had a restaraunt in Mosinee, they left there because the owner of the building kept raising his rent until it was impossible to make a profit at all on the business. Hopefully they keep up the quality of the food, the menu had all the basics and of course then some of their own specials, nicely priced also. If they keep the place clean and the quality of the food and service stays good it will make a nice addition to our community, and choices of places to eat.
GOOD REVIEW!!! We went in yesterday and all the food we ordered was terrific! Low prices too. The owners were very, very nice and the whole place seemed like fun. They also had a big soup and salad bar which looked great and being able to order breakfast all day is always a good thing. The smoking section is in the back, kind of around a corner and although I wish it were all non smoking, I have to admit, we were not bothered by the smoke. We will definitly go again! It’s great to have another restaurant in town and I wish them the best of luck!
Perhaps a new start for forward progress in Antigo.
Went again and we all ordered completely different things from the first time and it was all very good. Also, the smoke was still not still not too bothersome and we are true smoke haters.
why keep knocking the smokers. if u dont want to be around it don’t be. i’m a non smoker and i was a smoker and they have rights like the rest of us. when the law changes, well i guess u have to wait til then.
We went into Corner Cafe for lunch today and it was awesome, haven’t heard a bad word about the place yet! Now we another option for Friday fish fries, too.
tinker- I knock smoking because I cannot tolerate the thick smoke in some restaurants. I HAVE ASTHMA AND SO DOES MY CHILD! Also, I am sick of smoker’s having the right to poison everyone around them! Enough!!!
I agree, why do smokers get to murder everyone else and get away with it, not to mention they’ve never heard of an ashtray and have to throw their butts all over the ground and out the window on the road. PATHETIC!
ignorant people suck!-EXACTLY!!!
not everyone is a dirty smoker and half the population does it. yes more are quitting and good for them. but do u complain when u get behind a car with bad exhaust which is then sucked into your car through your fans. probably not. like i said if u dont like it go somewhere else. and u r not the only one with health problems. maybe if the littering laws were alittle stronger then that would help. but wait i know things will never change. your right ignorant people do suck, look in the mirror! cause everybody has rights til them get used to it!
soon the world will be a better place and people will only be able to smoke in the confines of their own home.
good luck getting the cops to enforce the littering of cigarette butts, I’ve seen enough of them throwing them on the ground. Have you ever seen the entry to the police department? DISGUSTING!
Don’t go after midnight on a weekend. I went on Saturday and was handed the “late night menu”. One egg was $5.25. Of course I thought it was a typo so I asked the waitress if it came with toast, etc. She said, nope just a single egg! I paid for my coffee and left. Sorry, maybe some drunks at bar close will pay 5.25 for one egg but I wasn’t drunk and I think it’s BS that they’re taking advantage of the one’s that are. If they keep those prices, they will not be able to stay open 24 hrs. on the weekends. I wasn’t the only one that saw the menu and walked out. (by the way… 2 eggs cost $6.10) and a skillet meal was 8 something. I will wait and go to Two Angels for a great breakfast and pay only $2.95
Either that was one incredible Ostrich egg, or that’s just plain outrageous. I don’t plan on going, I’ve never had good experiences with restaurants in that building. When it was Jimmy’s Hot Dogs, The one time I went I had cold fries and a rock hard bun. When it was Antigo Cafe, I had a burger that tasted like it had teriyaki sauce on it and again, cold fries. If it lasts for a while, I might try it. Like they say, the 3rd time’s a charm.
My friends daughter happens to work at the Corner Cafe and no one egg is not 5.25 without anything else. You do get hashbrowns, toast or pancakes and a choice of meat, and it is two eggs, not one………yes they do have a smaller late night menu, but they are just starting out and are not sure how much business they are going to have after 10pm on Friday’s and Saturdays. I hate to say this, but, I do find the food much better at Corner Cafe than I do at two Angels……I will admit I have not had breakfast yet, just lunch and dinner. I love the owners of Two Angels we are frequent customers, but, we have found that as a family, we enjoy Corner Cafe much better for lunch and dinner items. Lets not trash talk a place just because we were unhappy once and maybe it was a new waitress who didn’t know what was on the menu……they have gone thru quite a few. Being new in town, they didn’t know who to hire and who not to hire. This is part of the problem with this town……you can’t be loyal to more than one restaurant……..what happened to having a variety and different places to eat. I am from a larger city where you have a ton of choices that you can make to go out to eat and all of them seem to do well. Give the place a chance. And by the way in the mornings btwn 6am and 11am, just like Two Angels you can get the $2.95 breakfast that Two Angles offers for $2.25.
Yeah, but I can’t wait to go to the cafe after bar close and watch all the fights. Free entertainment for the price of a cup of coffee! Ding Ding, round two!
Judy: FYI i asked her to clarify what the menu said and she told me flat out nothing else came with the one egg. If the waitress didn’t know what was on the menu then maybe she shouldn’t be working there. She lost alot of business for that place that night because I wasn’t the only one walking out. The menu clearly said “1 egg” $5.25 and nothing else after it. I’m not talking trash, just speaking the facts from my experience there. I will go there again and give it a chance during lunch and dinner. I’m not being loyal to just one restaurant. Im up for variety and different places as well.
Watching all the fights would even be worth the $5.25 egg!
I’ve also had breakfast there and one egg is NOT $5.25…please read the menu alittle better next time. They are a bit more expensive than Two Angels but do offer their free salad bar everyday from 11-1 with a sandwich, and the food is very good.
I went to Corner Cafe last night and looked for their $5.25 egg…it is not on the menu, however they do offer a large egg sandwich with meat & cheese for $4.50.
I went there to eat for the 1st time ever and it was awesome, not only was the food good but the wait staff was very cheerfull and pleasant. the owners took the time to come to every table to ask how is everything. you don’t get that at two angels.
I went there a few weeks ago. The only good thing I can say about the place was the food. I will give them some credit, it was a sunday so I don’t know how long the waitress was on her shift. It was dirty, the staff was smoking up in the resturaunt area, I couldn’t get a refill on my coffee for the life of me, and I was brought the wrong food (which the cook caught after the waitress gave it to me). Will I give them a second chance? Of course.
concerned-
Look at how long Two Angel’s has been here. Of course the owners are going to ask how things are since this is a “new” place in town. When we first moved here in 1996 it was a little after Two Angel’s had opened, and Enser would always come to the table and ask how we were doing. But as with any business, once you see that people like how you’re doing things, you don’t have to ask them as much. And besides, some people don’t like being bothered while they eat anyways.
We have ate there several times and the food has always been good. We have not complaints about the place and we have not had any problems with people smoking in the back. The owners are always very nice and willing to work with us.
I did go back during the week and the service was much better. Again my only complaint was the staff smoking in the resturaunt. I don’t have a problem with them smoking, I would just rather not see them do it.
My husband printed out everything that has been said so far and took it up and gave it to the New Owners. So they can read what is being said about them. We do not have any problems with the food and the place has always been clean when we have been there. The people working is also very friendly as well.
THE SIGN OUT FRONT SAYS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP BUT THE MAN RUNNING IT NOW IS A NEPHEW OF THE MAN WHO OWNED IT BEFORE,I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE EATING THERE.
ANY QUESTIONS ON THE
OWNERSHIP CONTACT ME!!!!
JEAN DUBERSTEIN …NEW OWNER…I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE…….THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATRONAGE…….
Jean – maybe you can clear up the debate about your late night menu with 1 egg for $5.25? Thanks
About the Antigo Cafe,
I for one will never, ever give them people my business. Before they reopened, I had seen a posting in the window for Help Wanted. So I went in to talk to them, and asked about the positions. The response that i got from a man and woman there was, “NO men, Only Woman” as they shuffled me out the door. I can not believe that people of a different nationality think that, of all places, they can come here, and decide to be sexist, or racist in choosing any one for a position. Now if that would have been a white person saying that to them, they would have filed complaints. As far as I am concerned they can close up for good.
amen antigo resident…and the new owners are in fact related too the old owner or atleast the man running it is…it is the old owners nephew..Yeah can’t fool some ppl as some of us have known the family for many years..and the woman running it is a real b*tch..I know cause I have seen the way she treats ppl when she thinks they are not looking….and the way she acts when ppl come and ask for a job..so antigoresident,I am going too have too agree and say I would never give them my business either!!!!!!!
antigo resident if that is true then u could possibly have some type of complaint towards them, however in another blog u state that u work for weston ministry if u r qualified to work in that type of an area y would u try to get a job at a little cafe on the corner. i have not been there yet but will some day and if i am not satisfied i will let them know b 4 i leave. u can do this without being a snob and just let them know that there is an area of service or food that needs improvement. this is not a 5 star restaurant in a big city, people here r underpaid and if u treat them badly expect the same service.
Sherry…I’m not blind. I know what I’m reading. Pay attention to what I type. I said it was the late night menu that they hand you on the weekends. Obivously that’s a different menu then you have seen unless you go after midnight. Obviously you wouldn’t know what I’m talking about if you haven’t seen it. IT’S A SEPERATE MENU FROM THE NORMAL ONE…maybe you can understand now….geez, what a stupid thing to argue about.
I’m not going to argue over an egg. I know what I saw and what I was told.
It took you over two months to respond to my post??? I wrote that on May 4. I thought that subject had already been addressed, where have you been?
My husband and I have ate at the Corner Cafe lots of times and have never had any problems with any one working there. Everyone has always been very friendly to us. The food is also very good we have tried several different things they have and it is all good. Both the owners are always friendly to anyone there when we have been there. Also my husband has also been there late at night and yes they have higher food prices late at night because some people make big messes and getting people to work late at night is not always easy.
We like the people and the food so we will keep going there.
THEY R NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF DRUNK PEOPLE WITH THEIR PRICES…..HAVE U EVER HEARD OF SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL……ALSO THEY DO NOT GET AS MANY CUSTOMERS AT NIGHT THERE FORE THEY HAVE TO HAVE THEIR PRICES HIGHER TO COVER OPERATING COSTS………THE EGGS DON’T PAY FOR THEMSELVES AND THEY DON’T COOK OR SERVE THEMSELVES EITHER THEY HAVE TO PAY WAGES AND UTILITY BILLS……IF U DON’T LIKE THE PRICES COOK YOUR OWN EGGS AT HOME………ALSO GETTING DRUNK IS A SELF INFLICTED CONDITION….NO BODY POURED THE ALCOHOL DOWN THEIR THROAT……
I ate there a few weeks back and I got 2 eggs hasbrowns sausage and toast for like 6 bucks and this was after midnight where are people getting the 5.25 for 1 egg thing.
