Mobil Gas Station by Fairgrounds Closed

AntigoBuzz Home

I drove through the Mobil Mart to see what is going on there. It looked as though the place was closed, and that has been confirmed. In the windows there are signs stating that they are, in fact, closed. There is also a note in the window that says something to the effect of, “If you have any questions, call the Antigo Police Dept.” The shelves are empty inside and it looks pretty well cleaned out.

I’m not sure what exactly the deal is here and there may be some interesting news to come on what happened. About 2 weeks ago or so, I noticed 4 police cars in the parking lot. I thought maybe there would be something in the Journal about it, but, so far, there hasn’t been. I hadn’t paid much attention after that evening when the police were there, but, I am sure it wasn’t long after that and the place was closed. I heard that the owner had been struggling financially to keep it open, and so it may just be some kind of coincidence. I will be keeping my eye out for something in the news about it.

****************UPDATE 10/11/08**********

According to the article in the Antigo Daily Journal, the Northside Mobil station will be re-opening.  Excerpt from the Journal article:  “Sembhi One, Inc., formerly Northside Mobil, will get the necessary beer and cigarette licenses to allow the station to reopen after being shuttered for several months.”

-You can find the entire Journal article HERE.

*********UPDATE 10/07/2010************

The station is now open, and is now Phillips66. They have put some work into it and it certainly looks much better.

I heard that it was a sexual assault claim. Every time I was in there, he was very dis-respectful to women. He also sold a lot of underage tobacco. Maybe those two things could have something to do with it.

  2. Alexis says:

I heard on the radio awhile back that the manager had taken off with all the merchandise and was being sought for grand theft.

  3. DF2Y says:

I’m underage (and I’m proud to say I’ve never tried any types of tobacco), but tons of people at school would go there to get chew or ciggs, and apprently he would enter something else into the system that was near the actual price and still sell it to them. I hope someone reopens it soon, because it’s quite a shame to see such a nice facility just sit vacant.

Good for you DF2Y! You should be proud of yourself!!! I drove by there today and it’s all snowed in and definitely closed. It looks like there is still a lot of stuff inside. Any new stories on this place?

  5. Shalimar says:

It was a sexual assault/hassassment charge. He waa always making comments to 2 of my daughters who would stop there for an item or 2. Always called them “Pretty Lady” & would go on about how much he loved American women. He wanted to hire one of my daughters away from a competitor, because she knew how to clean the joint up & get customers through the doors, which he was in need of, but she wouldn’t work for him.
