ADJ makes up its own rules for fact-checking, grammar, language style, plitical analysis, and journalistic practices. Why would you not expect them to make up their own rules on what is or is not a baby?

Yes, I saw that Sherry! Not fair at all for that precious little one. A baby is ALWAYS a blessing and I agree, it's just WRONG!

Did anyone notice the first baby of 2010 on the front page of the Jan. 13th Shoppers Guide? Unwed mother, hmmm...different baby awarded the honor from the Antigo Daily Journal again this year, born a day after the REAL baby because of married parents. What a shame...

These "birth announcements" which are done in the newspaper are done entirely free of charge. While I don't personally agree with the policy (I've let my manager know I think it's archaic,) I am willing to also admit that since this is free space in the newspaper it is their discretion to publish what they want. I am certain that any new mother or friend/family member is free to take out ad space in the paper to announce the birth of their new baby.

If the issue involved a decline to publish a paid announcement I would fight that to the blood. However, I refuse to get hot headed over a free announcement of "Baby boy born to Mr. and Mrs. John Smith at Langlade Hospital." If the issue really brings you to vulgarity, maybe try actually doing something about it. Call the hospital and ask to speak with someone in Administration. Then call the newspaper and do the same.

As I have said previously, we submit the birth information to both the Antigo Daily Journal and the Antigo Area Shoppers Guide. The Shoppers Guide publishes the birth information we send them which includes unwed mothers. The Journal chooses to filter the information we submit.

Thank you.

Hello All.....
I think it is BS that the hospital and News Paper won't allow birth announcements of unwed mothers........The news papers have been advocating free speech for to many years to count but yet they won't allow the free speech of people just because they r not married.........what gives them the right to judge that.......there are alot of couples out there that are married in Gods eyes but the jack*sses at the hospital and news paper won't accept that.........they should all look to a higher authority and shut their mouths cause all that is coming out of them is a load of s***..........a baby is a wonderful gift from God and marital status doesn't change that.........they should accept it and give the mother and father the praise they deserve...........

precisely albus. if you actually read the words of the rabbi jesus you'll find that he preached kindness and love and caring and the same of the creator. it was after the nicean creed that jesus became the one true son of god and a prophet. though some during his time would have seen his good message as prophetic and may have thought him to be a gift from the heavens i doubt that he was THE son of god. However, he was, as we all are, A son of God, whomever that God may be. if people would simply be kind and believe in each other, than all else is quite moot.

Here's one for you to consider, semperfi:

"We believe in optimism rather than than pessimism, hope rather than despair, learning in the place of dogma, truth instead of ignorance, joy rather than guilt or sin, tolerance in the place of fear, love instead of hatred, compassion over selfishness, beauty instead of ugliness, and reason rather than blind faith or irrationality."

Works for me....
