Antigo Walmart Complaint

I gotta vent about the joke that someone has decided to play of the people of Antigo. The management of the Walmart here should be sent on their merry way. I am not talking about the senseless reconfiguring of the store, I am talking about the reasoning of having 14 checkout lanes at a store, and only 5 are open. Rumor has it, even from employees there is that the manager gets quite the bonus for running the store as efficient as possible – but this is ridiculous!!!!!!

I hope that who ever is making the decisions on how the store is run reads this. Do us all a favor and resign!!!!!!!!! There is absolutely nothing convenient about the Walmart now.

14 lanes…..why don’t you get them open, hell you already shortened the hours, so make it right.

Please keep in mind that most of the “policies” that any retail and/or restaurant chain have in place, including how many registers that may be open at any given time, might have been passed down from the corporate office…you may see 20 employees in the store, but it’s possible that only 3 of them are trained to run the registers, and it might be possible that the manager might be following a policy that states that he/she can only have 3 cashiers on the floor at a particular time.
As someone else posted earlier, if you don’t like what is going on at a particular retail or food service establishment, then speak with your money. Go shopping somewhere else. Things may only begin to change if enough people do this. If Walmart corporation were to notice that the Antigo location had a drop of several thousands of dollars in business, change might occur. But, it has to be several thousands of dollars every day.

  2. appleman says:

Thats False go to Merrill walmart more than enough cashiers with limited resources I guess when the check out lines are 20 deep and no one opens up a new register is where the problem is I believe

  3. it_never_ceases_to_amaze says:

    @shannon
how ironic, we all know you can’t just say whatever we feel. here’s a random piece of info: filing a false police report carries a maximum penalty of no more than 6 years imprisonment & no more than a $10,000 fine. walmart antigo should have to refund the taxpayers of Langlade County for all the police overtime that was wasted.
Comments always welcome. I still want to see someone defend that bogus incident from February, or is everyone’s silence going to be in agreement with that little stunt.

  4. wow says:

have people ever thought that the cashiers ask for help all the time and the only time it is ever 20 deep is at christmas. also if you go to merrill walmart the reason they are not 20 deep is they do not have the sales our walmart does….???

  5. Cathy says:

When is anyone going to get the drift that walmart DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE CUSTOMERS WAITING IN LINE! Just google the documentary Wal Mart The High Cost Of Low Prices and you will understand why I am telling you this. And then you can see the documentary Confessions of a Wal Mart Hit Man.

After getting educated about Wal Mart you will understand what the pee on employees are going through and not take your resentments out on them. Yes the employees here are treated as said in these documentaries. I have had their employees say they worked overtime and didn’t get paid for it. Shop else where and get an Aldes in this town.

If you call 1 800 wal mart to complain corporate will just make it harder on the pee on employees. With the power Wal Mart has they would have sued the people that made the documentary and it would have been removed from the web. I therefore believe everything I have told you is true. So rather than waiting in line at the registers, shop else where.
There is so much I could tell you that the employees have to put up with but there isn’t enough time or space to tell you all of it. Do you see smiles on the faces there? Does anyone really seem happy there? Open up your eyes and get into reality!!!

  6. dave says:

Shop local Antigo, Walmart Grocery Meat and Produce depts just plain S—! Shop lakeside their just the best, and care about you and the community!

  7. Polarmiss says:

    WalMart killed downtown Antigo.

  8. David says:

Does anyone know how to go about getting an aldi’s in this town?

  9. Cathy says:

Yes WallMart killed downtown Antigo! I totally believe it! The jaw dropping documentary WalMart the High Cost of Low Prices does a section on just what that WalMart does to a community after it opens up a store there. That is why some communities do everything in their power to keep Wal Mart from opening a store there. Occasionally you hear such battles on the national news. Not only did WalMart empty a lot of stores downtown but it emptied a lot the stores in the former K Mart Mall. The grocery store in WalMart is it’s biggest money maker and if we got an Aldes in Antigo maybe just maybe we would have a chance to get our town back!!! Is any one out there listening???

That documentary also covers the crime in WalMart parking lots and what the store has done about it. In the USofA there have been people abducted and killed in their parking lots and where do the employees have to park. The far end of the lot!

  11. Kathy says:

I grew up in Antigo and the people of Antigo killed downtown Antigo by wanting and supporting Walmart.. They stopped shopping at Festival Foods, KMart, Ben Franklin’s and the rest…and chose Walmart prices and junk… So now they have their low prices(Ha!!!) and can enjoy being a Walmart shopper….. They helped like alot of other towns and cities to send American jobs overseas to China.. Thank you very much… I don’t need to shop Walmart even though I don’t make alot of money either. Stop whining and admit your part of the responsibility…. Thank you.

  12. Meezer says:

    @Kathy:

I’m pretty sure KMart, Ben Franklin and Festival Foods were already gone before Walmart set up shop in Antigo. Check it out.

  13. Cathy says:

    To @Kathy

I know for a fact that K Mart was open when Wal Mart came because the managers were a excited when they herd K Mart was closing – I saw it myself. They were happy, laughing and in the same breath they said Wal Mart had nothing to do with it! I in fact told them about it being in the news.

  14. hlf says:

Yesterday evening my 3 year old daughter and I made a trip to Walmart to pick up a few things. Everything was going fine and my daughter stated she had to go to the bathroom, so we walked to the bathroom located in the front of the store. On our way back she was walking in front of me approx. 2.5 feet walking at her normal pace. Then i hear the walmart greeter man yelling at me “mam do not let her run in this store”. First of all she was not running, second of all she wanted to walk if i were to carry her she would have screamed at the top of her lungs which would have been disruptive. She was not causing any harm. If Walmart doesn’t want kids walking in their store maybe they should put up a sign! Needless to say i put everything in my cart back and left!

  15. wow says:

Walmart did not kill downtown or Kmart….the founding fathers of Antigo did by not letting big businesses come in…so they went to Rhinelander instead……and Kmart was going out before walmart came in!!!!

  16. Meezer says:

KMart was closed before Walmart was here. I remember shopping for my kid’s Christmas presents and the only place to find toys in Antigo that year was Fleet Farm.

  17. outoftowner says:

I cannot believe my visit to the Antigo Walmart. Not one employee smiled. Everyone looked so miserable. And your prices are more than where I live in a big city. I’m talking at least a dollar per item. I felt I was in a miserable place. I think management needs to look around. Read all above postings and wake up. I feel sorry for the people who have to shop in this miserable store.

  18. wow says:

@ outoftowner –get a life…we are a small community with hardly any competition…if you checked our prices versus Copps on most of it Walmart is cheaper

  19. Sad says:

It’s true that WalMart is typically far cheaper than Copps on almost every item, but my family and I decided to stop shopping at WalMart because our principles meant more than saving those dollars did. The way WalMart Corp treats its employees is despicable. The damage that WalMart does to local economies and cultures is reprehensible and the Walton Foundation is one of the biggest opponents of public education in this country. For us, WalMart’s low prices come at too high of a price.

  20. Heleen Krueger says:

I don’t get the point of the original post. When I check out at Walmart, I typically only have 2 or 3 people in front of me, sometimes more, usually less. They open more lanes when they are busy. The only time it takes a while to check out is when I get in the lane of one of the (many) slower cashiers. Basically most of the ones who aren’t Gail or Jeanette.

Walmart itself has nothing to do with the slow checkout time, as most non-3rd shift employees are trained in cash register operation. It’s just that most the dedicated cashiers are too slow (in more ways then one) to do the job properly.

  21. moving forward says:

Some of this is to be blamed on the customers , I was there to get a small item before the game yesterday and had to wait for some lady in the speedy checkout lane with a cartload of things. This does nothing but slow everyone down.

  22. Bowana says:

This is such a laugh, Gail nor Jeanette are no better than some of good ones, just open your eyes. They have no control over the customers and there are so many sassy ones—i hear them whenever i am in that store. I believe it is very hard working there for everyone and trying to please everyone—it can’t be done.

  23. Cathy says:

To everyone who thinks K Mart closed before Wal Mart came to Antigo you are wrong! I worked at Wal Mart when it opened and I remember shopping at K Mart after my work shift ended at Wal Mart. Management even commented having K Mart here would help on black friday to keep people shopping here in Antigo instead of going out of town. The more stores to shop in helps to keep people shopping in Antigo and not go elsewhere. Also Wal Mart store manager Bryan kicked out any one shopping the in store with K Mart clothing on opening day of Wal Mart. Also Festival Foods was open when Wal Mart came here. Copps has not been in that building for eleven years and that building was empty only for a year or two. Copps was across the road next to Walgreens when Wal Mart opened.

  24. ahs says:

Cathy, you are so right about K Mart. I worked at Kmart when Walmart came to town. I would always compare prices when I went to Walmart and then go back to Kmart and have them price match! After Kmart left, I was forced to shop at Walmart, but if I was headed to Wausau I would stock up on what I needed at Target since I hated going to Walmart. I really don’t get it either about why they have how many lanes and only 2-3 are open. That is the biggest reason for me not shopping there. I do most of my grocery shopping at Copps cause I won’t buy produce, meat, and dairy from Walmart. I will get some of my boxed items there but that is about it. I would love to see a Target come to town!

  25. McKay says:

ahs.. Thank you for shopping at Copps, we/they appreciate your business!

  26. Cathy says:

Copps produce is of far better quality than at Wal Mart.. Also I remember a few years ago there were many many empty spots in the produce dept. I called 1-800 Wal Mart to complain and the dept. manager only made things worse for the produce employees. Go figure! I understand after a year of the produce looking like sh*t, that dept. manager transfered to anther store. If that was a regular employee not doing his job right he or she would have been fired. Bad Dept. Managers just get to go on to a different store. I’m not just saying the condition of Copp’s produce department is better, I’m saying the quality of the food in produce is better!

  27. Meezer says:

Copps for sure has Walmart beat when it comes to the quality of its produce. I’m willing to pay more for higher quality…I’ll make the short drive to Copps to buy my produce anyday.

  28. lol@walmart says:

walmart in antigo is a joke the treat their emoloyees like sh*t unless your part of the family that seems to be head of all departments and dont do sh*t for example you have brian that was or is in tle who is all over the store acting like he knows everything only thing he is good at is kissing a$$ or talking to his wife then you have shawn in electronics who all hee is good for is his loud cocky mouth on the floor but when you ask him something he has to ask people below him because he dont know sh*t the you got the store mgr lori well i think she is still the last i knew when your in charge of a store your suppose to be friendly the b*tch dont smile she is the most stuck up nonfriendly person i have ever seen you make over a 100k a year earnt it and getting it in the a$$ in your office isnt it then you have holly s who dont do nothing but walk around and point fingers and find time so amber can suck up to her then you have people who bust their a$$ every day they are there that never get credit they deserve and get sh*t on every day

  29. Kristinnm says:

I worked at Walmart part-time last year and I can say 2 things as fact:

    1. Most associates are NOT trained or allowed to work the registers. If you get trained and assigned status for cashiering, they have to pay you more. The corporate policies make it very difficult for associates to be able to work in multiple positions at different pay rates. It was really inefficient, IMO.

    2. If the lines got long, they call everyone up front to help speed things up and it was considered and treated as a priority by everyone. I remember many, many times running up front from my area in toys to help bag so the cashiers just had to ring and managers jumping on a register to open more lanes. So, as stupid as a lot of their policies are, that one I must give them credit for. (But I was never given cashier training – although I had asked for it – and was not allowed to jump on a register.)

I was in management in other industries and own my own business, but I would never want to manage there. It seemed like so often management’s hands were tied by stupid corporate policies that disregarded local realities. Employees really have been put down to serf status since Sam died – they have completely dropped his philosophies about taking care of employees and making them want to invest in the success of the store. It’s a real shame because it’s a philosophy that helped make it so successful back then. But having worked there for a few months, I know that most of the employees do their best to do their job when not hampered by management/corporate. I made friends there (which is otherwise hard to do being new in town) and I respect what they have to deal with as far as policies, scheduling, micro-managing, etc. You have to walk in someone’s shoes before you can judge – they are just like the rest of us trying to make ends meet. Many of them had good jobs they lost and are completely over-qualified to work there!

That said, I’m originally from Milwaukee and I wouldn’t set foot in a Walmart there these days – it’s literally SCARY. By comparison, the Walmart in Antigo is extremely clean and the people who work there look you in the eye and will talk to you and help when they can and you don’t have to be worried about getting mugged in the parking lot in broad daylight! People who haven’t experienced a truly bad Walmart don’t realize how good Antigo’s is by comparison. Sure, it could be better but it could also be a LOT worse.

As far as comments on prices, though, I used to get all of the generic stuff at Walmart, thinking that it was the cheapest in town. I even drove to Rhinelander to check comparison shop Aldi’s. I can tell you without a doubt that the best prices in Antigo are at Copp’s on Double Daze (using coupons) and taking advantage of Walgreen’s Register Rewards (also using coupons.) Since I started doing that, my grocery and household supply (cleaning/health & beauty) bill has dropped from $150-$200 a week to $50-$90 a week. Even Aldi’s couldn’t match the prices I am getting on brand name items with their store versions. I pretty much only buy generic chips, tomato sauce, bulk chicken breasts and sometimes cheaper produce at Walmart now, as far as groceries/supplies. Or things they don’t carry at Copp’s.

I often get things for pennies on the dollar or free, which leaves more money for fresh produce, meat, etc. If you don’t believe it you can check out my blog link and see what I’ve been paying for yourself. (I started the blog to help my friends and family find the best deals, too.) Ironically, changing how I shopped made up for what little income I got from my previous Walmart job and I can stay home with my family instead!

You know what I’d love to see. In honor of that employee that got f****d hardcore for merely excising his right to carry firearm on his day off. I looked wally world’s policy on this. It’s sad because he didn’t break any local laws or store policies. I’d like to see the following, a whole bunch of people with nice suits (the more the better) drive up in a bunch of black Suburbans (convoy fashion). 6 people in each suv, open carry style, pistols with suppressors. S*** I forgot, you can open carry inside your vehicle now. Everyone go inside, buy 1 thing & walk out (all in single file fashion)

  31. moving forward says:

I find this whole topic a bit messed up. First off i never found anything in walmart so scary i needed to bring a gun in for protection. He was there for one reason and one reason only.

  32. Mom says:

I have a question: Why in the H E double hockey sticks are the Kleenex tissues way over on the other side of the store from the cold medicines? When a person is not feeling the best and there to get some cold medicine; the last thing she wants to do is trek across the store to grab some Kleenex when she knows she’s only going to have to stand in line for another 10 minutes! Can’t they stock one brand at least of tissue where it’s needed for God’s sake!? This isn’t just Antigo either, it’s nation-wide at any Wal-Mart because some guy who makes bucco bucks designed it that way and he doesn’t give a crap how inconvenient it is!

LOL! There now I feel better just getting that out of my system! :)

  33. Cathy says:

I want to warn everyone to check their sales receipt before leaving the store! In the past week I saved myself eight dollars by checking the receipt. Once a clearance item was marked on the shelf as clearance price and it rang up at the regular price. Then within a week another purchase wasn’t priced right. I found it by accident when I looked at the receipt a couple of days later. The shelf price was five dollars less than it rung up for. I took the receipt back to the store, checked the price on the shelf and sure enough it was five dollars cheaper than the receipt. I went to customer service and got my five dollars back. The person at the desk said it happens all the time.

I remember when Wal Mart would give three dollars for any wrong price. Now that they have reduced their payroll by getting rid of so many employees, the employees that are left have to work harder to get the same amount of merchandise out to the shelf that they can’t take the time to make sure the prices are right.

Now this is a double win for Wal Mart! Their payroll is smaller and they are getting more money from the public because of wrong prices. They work their employees to death and rip the customers off!!! I CAN’T STRESS ENOUGH – CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!!

  34. Rosie says:

It also happened to me with apples more than once.

  35. Rae says:

Everybody would save a lot of time if they would just come to the Wausau Wal-Mart because everything you say about the one in Antigo, doesnt happen in Wausau. I go there all of the time and have never had a problem with pricing or the employees. Plus they are extremely friendly there. I was there on Halloween and the greeter at the front doors gave my daughter an entire bowl full of candy. Clean, friendly, and good on prices.

  36. AlexP says:

Ever think about black friday? You need 14 lanes just for that day haha

  37. Randy says:

Why don’t the Antigo Walmart Put in a few self check outs? You can go to Rib Mountain, Shawano, Rhinelander and other Walmart store and they all have them. It would be great when the store is busy to have a few self check out lanes available for those that don’t want to wait in a long line.

  38. tracey says:

i was a walmart employee the store opened in june of 2001, and yes there was a kmart there for a short while, second of all it is not the hourly employees that work there it is upper management that is screwing it up, long lines, short of help, crabby workers, they work hard all year get a one time 20% off card for 1 item for there xmas bonus no over time pay and crappy insurance that is if they qualify for it. but the store manager gets money for everything he/she saves coasts on. it dont even help to call the home office thats all they care bout is the bottom dollar

  39. Bobby Boucher says:

For those that don’t like WalMart, I stumbled across a site that would make your day http://www.phonelosers.org/wal-mart/. It’s about some people doing funny pranks in WalMart paging funny stuff over the intercom, making the alarm thing in the entrance go off etc. You can also read comments people post on there too. I work and have better things to do with my time then to do that crap, but some of it is funny what people will find the time to do.

  40. Jim Sprague says:

    Rom,
You are a suit and tie kind of guy, aren’t you? I read the first sentence of your message and stopped. I hope to God nobody like you ever gets to public office.
