Antigo Walmart Complaint

I gotta vent about the joke that someone has decided to play of the people of Antigo. The management of the Walmart here should be sent on their merry way. I am not talking about the senseless reconfiguring of the store, I am talking about the reasoning of having 14 checkout lanes at a store, and only 5 are open. Rumor has it, even from employees there is that the manager gets quite the bonus for running the store as efficient as possible – but this is ridiculous!!!!!!

I hope that who ever is making the decisions on how the store is run reads this. Do us all a favor and resign!!!!!!!!! There is absolutely nothing convenient about the Walmart now.

14 lanes…..why don’t you get them open, hell you already shortened the hours, so make it right.

  1. DF2Y says:

Are the shortened hours permanent, or just while they remodel? It’s nice having a 24 hour store in town, especially one with a pharmacy.

  2. Kim says:

From what one of the managers told me the hour cut is permament. The only time they will be open 24 hours is thanksgiving through christmas.

  3. Moving Forward says:

I have also noticed this as well as a few other things. I have moved here from another state and I can reassure you that the other Walmart stores are not run like this.

  4. antigonewbie says:

I totally agree that this store is not operated like many other stores.

Everyone I talk to dreads shopping there and now that they are closing the ovenright hours, people are going to be forced to continue to endure the long lines.

It’s no joke when people say, “No lines bigger than 25 at Walmart.”

The store is not run to benefit the consumers, it is operated to benefit the management.

I wonder how much market share is lost to area communities because people steer clear of the packed lines?

I would think quick service meant something, but not in Antigo.

  5. Shalimar says:

For us older or disabled folks, the new set up is a nightmare! It LOOKS great, but is not conducive to fast shopping. & you’re right about the checkouts. But please keep in mind that your cashier has no say over how many are going. It’s like stiffing the waitress of a tip because the cook is lousy.
And is it just me, but are some of those cashiers downright unfriendly & border on rude?? There are some I refuse to go to. Like Jeanette & Lori. What happened to Patsy with all the hair do dads, Erv & Don the rock guy? Now those 3 made you feel important! & the “Greeters???” Thats a joke. Most try to avoid your eyes. Jerry Igl….now there was a greeter!!

  6. Russ says:

I think Patsy is back – the one with all the weird hair stuff – she was there a couple days ago. As for the “Greeters”, friendly is one thing, but, I really didn’t appreciate Don the Rock guy handing me pet rocks for fun or whatever is was. I’m actually surprised that they let him do that while working.

  7. Sherry says:

Oh, I actually forgot about him! I thought he was a character and gave the store some personality. I think the greeters are friendly there, never had a problem with any of them.

  8. Sherry says:

P.S. Give them some credit…it can’t be easy saying “hi” and handing out carts all shift long. I’m sure they get sick of us, too.

  9. antigonewbie says:

God forbid they do what they were hired to do.

  10. Shalimar says:

People who are not “people persons” should not be in retail or customer service positions. You have to smile till you think your face will crack & try to look sincere. Indifferent people like most their “Greeters” & most of their checkers, makes me not want to go in there. It makes me feel like I am bothering them. & I absolutely HATE it when they stick out their hand, waiting for you to go through your wallet to find what you need. It’s so rude. They need to have a bit more patience.

  11. Jennifer says:

There aren’t many jobs available in Antigo that aren’t “customer service” positions, so people have to take jobs that their personalities might not be suited for. It’s easier to just let go and smile even if someone is rude to you, rather then dwell on how rude or impatient they are.

  12. Simplemind says:

I live about 22 miles from the Walmart Location in Rhinelander and and 22 miles from Antigo. I seldom go to the Antigo store. I seldom come to the Antigo store. Part of it has to do with I have more business to conduct in Rhinelander (Aldi, Shopko, Home Depot), Job is in Rhinelander.

I have a disabled father and the Antigo store does not allow you to take the Electric Wheelchairs out of the store. Rhinelander does. And you can’t park very long near the front door to help him get into the car. But yet kids can use the electric wheelchair carts and play demo derby in the store.

My wife tried to return something from the Antigo store without a receipt the clerk refused and even rolled her eyes at her. Walmart keeps records on who returns things by storing driver’s licenses numbers in a database.. People who get into a regular habit of returing items without a receipt will usually get refused. This is the first time we returned something in 5 years without a receipt.. I took it to Walmart in Rhinelander and they returned it.

I don’t like the idea they are closed now at 11.. I usually shop at the Walmart store at 3 or 4 in the morning when there are no lines.

  13. S.T.A.N. says:

I have another complaint about Wal-mart. Every time I need to go there to get something Wal-mart specific they seem to be out of stock. They are regularly out of the size and brand of diapers I need. They were completely out of the most common type of cordless phone battery and at my last visit they were out of the Green Bay cheese. How can you be out of cheese in WI?? Whenever I ask if they have what I need in back, maybe just not on the shelves I am told no, what they have only what’s on the shelves. This has happened to me on numerous occasions. Who does the ordering? Don’t you think that if you were continuouly out of a product you would keep it stocked and order more next time?

  14. DF2Y says:

I agree stan. It’s Walmart, their stockroom is huge, they should have some of this stuff in back. Since they moved everything around, I can’t find anything in that place, minus the stuff that didn’t move too far.

  15. cityslicker says:

copps is the same way, they r always out of things too. u can always go somewhere to pay higher prices, but i have found copps is just as bad as walmart. they never should have let festival close, that was way better than copps.

  16. putyourmoneywhereyourmouthis says:

I feel compelled to post a reply, here. I work for one of the larger retailers in town, and one of my job duties is to order product for my department. This is in direct response to those complaining about items that are out of stock.

The first thing that everyone should understand is that most large retail stores are part of a corporate machine, a LARGE machine. The “machine” (in a lot of cases) owns a LOT of stores, Antigo’s stores being just tiny little blips on their radars.

Every department in my store is told by the corporation what is going on sale, when and for how long. Every single department head in my store does their VERY BEST to make sure that we have enough product on hand to be able to sell to our customers. We try to estimate how much of the product we are going to sell before our next truck arrives, and make sure that it is on hand, etc., etc. Sometimes problems arise, and there is not enough, or even no product to sell in some cases. For example: this week widgets are on sale. I expect to sell 10 cases of them before my next truck arrives. I order 10 cases of said widgets. I look at my paperwork the morning that they are to arrive, and – SURPRISE – I am not getting ANY widgets at all! Why? Who knows? Something, somewhere along the supply chain has broken down, and my widgets are not going to be in the store. We rarely know why we didn’t get something.

What I’d like everyone to understand is that something being out of stock is rarely a “store level” issue. If something is out of stock, it generally means that even though the product was ordered, it did not arrive for some reason. Believe me, this is as frustrating to those who work in the store as it is for our customers. On a daily basis, we encounter numerous issues handed down to us from the “machine”, and we do our level best to deal with them. And yes, sometimes we don’t order enough – we make mistakes – we’re human, and it happens.

Here’s a few other pieces of information: A good portion of products in some retail stores is not owned or ordered by the retailer. The product is owned and ordered and stocked by the individual manufacturers (Coke and Pepsi, for example). They have their own merchandisers and stock people for their products.

There are also retail stores that do not order ANY of their own products. Someone in some office somewhere decides what that store is going to be selling, and orders it for them (regardless of the fact that the product might not even sell in that particular store).

Here’s another scenario: You (the customer) are partial to blue doodads. You ask me to order them in because you love them so much. I order them in, and you buy one or two blue doodads – a year’s supply of blue doodads for you. No one else in Antigo likes blue doodads. Here’s the store’s problem – when we order something, we usually can’t just order one or two of something – we have minimum quantities that we have to purchase. So, I order a case of blue doodads (there are 12 blue doodads in a case). You buy two of those, and I now have 10 left. No one else in Antigo likes them or wants them. I try everything to sell them, finally mark them down to below cost, and a year after ordering them, I finally throw them away, and take a loss on them. You come back to me the next year and ask about the blue doodads again. While I would LIKE to be able to order them for you, I just can’t. Retailers are in business to make money, and while I’d like to make my customers as happy as possible, I can’t justify taking a loss on ten blue doodads. Do you see my point to this? I don’t decline to order the item in to irritate you. It’s a business decision, and part of my job is making those decisions. Sadly, I can’t please everbody 100% of the time.

I hope I provided some insight into the inner workings of some retailers. Believe me, we want our customers to be as happy as possible, but there are quite a few things that you see at store level that are just beyond our control. Every day we are pushed to do more and more with less people and hours to do it, and we do our best. This comes down from the head honchos in these corporations, folks. If you see something that you think should be addressed, talk to a department head, or the store manager – find out the “why” of something before complaining about it. We’ll tell you honestly why we don’t have any widgets this week. If you find out it’s not a store level issue, then please, please, please write to the corporation directly. That’s the only way anything will change.

Thanks for listening, and sorry this post was so long.

  17. Kim says:

I knew that about the beverages, I used to help out a local beverage establishment, stocking the shelves and what not. That is the reason I never get mad when copps is out of diet coke. I know it’s not the stores fault that coke didn’t order enough that week or the merchandiser hasn’t been there to stock in shelf. I just buy something else. It’s not like copps doesn’t have a bunch of different options for stuff. I mean they have roundy’s brand, premium brands.

  18. cityslicker says:

walmart has different opions for stuff also. however everyone is always bashing them, well they r not the only store that has those problems. all of the retail stores do, and like the previous blog, there is a chain effect. however they know quite a few weeks in advance what will be on sale when and then those orders r placed at that time for those sales also. there r alot of different scenarios that we could all talk about but in a town the size of antigo why so much shortage. we should talk about all the stores and not just the biggest one. and no i am not an employee of any of them!

  19. ho hom dee doo says:

Well, there certainly are a lot of complaints going on here!! I do agree with what you all are saying about our walmart. I am glad though that when I go to our walmart, it is by far the cleanest one of any of the surrounding ones. Wausaus store is filthy, and merrill… Well, yeah, ok. The best thing that I can do is to try and buy locally. But some times we do not have a choice, and more so with in the last year or so. I also am feeling a little bit of a crunch with the way the economy is, and have resorted more to buying for less at walmart. Does it make me happy to go there? Noo, but in the end we ultimately can not function with out a store of this kind. We use to have a k mart, and such, but now walmart has taken them out. When walmart was being built, i heard so many people saying how much they could not wait until walmart came in. now, I bet they aren’t saying that. It seems though to me that every time I go to return something there, that they always have a new policy as to why the item can not be returned. There is a reason for that, and its mainly not wal marts fault. Its because of the kind of people that buy things, open them, use them or wear them, and then want to return it. Or the lady who buys a box of maxi pads, uses one, and returns it because she does not like them. now walmart is out the money and must defect the product. I say its time that us humans start realizing what we are doing to our world, our children and society by being this way. So many of us are wastefull, and feel that the world owes us. I do my best to recycle, reduce cost, and save on the products that we use and expire to the landfills of our world. if people would not do soo much of this as I see at wal mart, there wouldnt be this problem. sorry, kinda got off the subject, but, I hope many of you get the drift.

  20. QUEEN says:

SOON PEEBLES WILL BE IN ANTIGO AND THAT WILL GIVE WALMART A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY. ALSO THE DOLLAR STORE WILL BE MOVING NEXT TO THE GOOD WILL AND BE ALOT BIGGER. ANTIGO IS FINALLY GROWING

  21. Fed Up says:

Queen, do you know something the rest of us don’t? The only plans I have heard for that area (by Goodwill) is for the Subway to move there from its location on 3rd and Superior. Peebles? I have not heard anything about that store coming. Can you please elaborate on your source because I am very interested.

  22. livehere says:

yes a peebles is supposed to go in the old k-mart with sears and dunam sports. that is the rumor. and that dollar tree will go next to goodwill in the old walgreens. these r the plans i have heard and i heard they were all agreed upon. so now we just have to wait and see.

  23. Sherry says:

Without solid proof, that could be such a rumor as ridiculous as Blackjack closing, which we found out was false this week. I guess we just have to wait and see what happens!

  24. DF2Y says:

I have never heard of Peebles, and I’m sorry, but unless Cost Cutters and Fashion Bug move too, there isn’t enough room in the old Kmart for a “Peebles”, Dunham’s and a Sear’s as well. Sears is moving for a fact (their building is for sale), and I’ve heard Dunham’s as well. Unless “Peebles” is very small, there just isn’t enough space.

  25. livehere says:

well at least 2 out of 3 work. thats what i heard from someone working on the property, yes i guess its all hearsay til anything happens just like subway too.

  26. Fed Up says:

I agree live here, it is a wait and see game at this point. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  27. youallsuck says:

just in case any of you are open to the truth you should here this. walmart is a corporation. so dont blame the store if you have a problem, blame the corporation. dont take your anger out on the employees who are just doing their jobs, just learn a little respect of your own and realize that yes they are only human. mistakes happen, and if you weren’t too busy only thinking of yourself you would be able to slow down, take a second have some patients and yes maybe even wait in a “long” line. walmart employees are not the problem, its the *ssholes who shop there!

  28. BIGNEWSJUNKY says:

Yeah, ok, tell me another one. I bet you shop there too, soo, what does that make you? Get a life, and enjoy your job as a cashier or some thing at walmart.

  29. Sherry says:

As the wife of a Wal-Mart employee, I know for a fact that it’s not the local store that makes the decisions. If you’ve ever worked for a big corporation, you would know that. The majority of our local staff does the best with what they’re given and told to do, it’s management who lacks the skills to pull the job off without any problems.

  30. Shalimar says:

I realize that the workers are not responsible for whether or not they have sufficient stock. But I take issue with Jennifer’s post about sucking up the rudeness as everyone has a bad day. I was a retail manager for 10 years…believe me…there is NO such thing as a bad day IF you are good at & qualified for your job! I had an elderly lady come into my store, march up to my radio & turn it off in a huff! I was seeing RED, but I had to smile & say ” I’m glad to see that song was irritating to someone else besides me!” Which of course was not true of me,BUT she then turned that nasty look to a smile & purchased a big ticket item. Stores are losing business because of the attitudes & indifference of their employees & I don’t think they even know it! When a person avoids a certain checkout or even an entire store because they feel like they are being a pain in the a++ to wait on or help, then the store suffers. Yes, it would be awful to stand inside Walmarts entry, smile, say hi & hand out carts all day, but that smile is what keeps people coming back & is supporting his or her family & if customers stop shopping because of that, there goes their job. I can’t believe they don’t screen people for that position! It’s the 1st person you see upon entering the store & if the person is just chillin’ & doesn’t say a word, look your way, or push you a cart, it gives you an idea what the whole shopping experience is going to be! I go there when absolutely necessary, but I hate the place!! People! First impressions are of the utmost importance!!

  31. LOVES ANTIGO says:

    WALMART JOKE
    From a new retiree:
As many of you know, I had ambitions of finding a simple, uncomplicated part time job after retiring from my “day job”. Unfortunately, as I have gotten a little older, I have become a little less sensitive. So, after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter, a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day.
About two hours into my first day on the job, a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids, yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance. As I had been instructed, I said pleasantly, ‘Good morning, and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?’
The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, ‘Hell no, they ain’t twins. The oldest one’s 9 and the other one’s 7. Why the hell would you think they’re twins? Are you blind or just stupid?’
So I replied, ‘I’m neither blind nor stupid, Ma’am. I just couldn’t believe that you got laid twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.’
My supervisor said I probably wasn’t cut out for this line of work.

  32. Sherry says:

Funny…I just heard that joke on the internet.

  33. Happy Shopper says:

As a consumer, Wal Mart has it’s pro’s and con’s but I have to say, that big bald headed guy in electronics certainly has his head together and finally someone who has good knowledge if the items in his own department. I will go to Wal Mart electronics before I even consider Best Buy.

  34. DF2Y says:

Walmart has a decent electronics department, but it depends when you’re in the store. During the day on a weekend, it’s easy to find someone to help because they have 2-4 people on in the department. On a weekday evening or any night, it can be like pulling teeth to find someone to answer a question or open a case.

  35. Sherry says:

For anyone needing to go to an eye doctor in the near future, I would suggest steering clear of the Walmart Vision Center in Antigo. They are pleasant to a customer until it comes time to explaining their fees and at that point, they are unclear of what exact costs will be and don’t have time for explanations…just want your money and send you on your way. Had a very bad experience yesterday there with my daughter and will not be returning ever again. It took nearly 20 minutes for the so-called technician just to enter our computer information. Then when my daughter decided that she may want to give contacts a chance instead of glasses, their attitudes changed completely. I have never been treated so rudely by a a retail establishment that’s supposed to be a “professional” place of business! Thanks to their incompetence and negligence, they’ve lost a good customer.

  36. Sherry says:

Also, We were informed that a “contacts” exam wasn’t performed and that there would then be additional charges! If I remember correctly from going to the Wisconsin Eye Clinic, all of the correct exams are done appropriately in the first place. My daughter was with the Wal-Mart “eye doctor” for approximately 10-15 minutes at the most.

  37. FriendlyWorks. says:

Hi everyone..I know this is going back off subject..but I’m a cashier at wal-mart and I have to agree with some of the customers here. I know plenty of my co-workers are rude..And I think the comment about Rude Customers is off..Yeah we have some..but everyone has a bad day here and there..Here’s a little hint..If a customer is having a bad day..or sick of waiting in line (Which all employees can admitt they hate doing it too)..If the Customer comes up and their Cashier has a smile on their face and a kind greeting..Chances are that will make them happier..So I think 90% of the time If a customer is rude to an employee or a cashier..it’s because of said employees attitude towards that customer..and I know plenty too that act like..the customer is a burden..or they don’t want to be there..which maybe they don’t..but their getting paid to be there..and they should just suck it up and do their job..because wouldn’t you think it would make the day just a little bit better if you had a smile on your face, instead of a stick up your butt?..:)

  38. STAN says:

Sherry, there is a special exam that is done for contacts, you have to have your eyes specially measured. The exam is only done if you request contacts. Everytime I have gone to the eye doctor they ask me and it is an extra fee, at most, if not all optical centers.

  39. MSC485 says:

Whatever Friendworks, have you ever been totally ignored by a customer on a cell phone and then be told you are the one who is rude, or been cussed out because you don’t have in the store what someone wants, or how about help an elderly person unload their cart and reload it just to have the people behind them treat you like crap because they had to wait a couple of extra minutes. people need to get over themselves and think about how hard we are working because we ARE short staffed and it’s not OUR fault we don’t make the schedule….So maybe you can get walked all over all day and still have that “Big smile” on your face, but some people can’t.

  40. Sherry says:

STAN, I understand that there is a special exam for contacts and we requested that on the form before my daughter went into the exam room. It wasn’t done because I had asked for a “glasses” exam when I set up the appointment over the phone. I don’t believe that an additional fee should be charged when it was their error that the correct exam wasn’t performed.

  41. Jennifer says:

To the person who took “issue” with my post, I don’t think at any time I said it was okay for store employees to be rude to customers. As someone who works in customer service, I was saying that as a representative of my employer it is necessary to let people be rude to you and still treat them with kindness and respect in return. However, in all honesty that applies to EVERYONE, EVERYDAY! Thank you.

  42. Lenny says:

This is late in coming, but a couple weeks ago I went to Walmart a few days in a row. Both days I did NOT have to wait at all to check out. The first day, literally half of the registers were open, it was amazing. I went again the day after, and fewer registers were open, but again, no waiting.

Not sure why that happened and if they’re sustaining that since I haven’t been back in a week or so.

  43. Candy G says:

Walmart is a high volume discount store. It wasn’t intended to provide the same service as your ma and pa hardware or Grocery store.

If you want a cheaper groceries then you lose the service of shorter lines, short walking distance to your car. You choose your service. If you want to pay more and get more service then go to another store.

  44. It Burns says:

All things considered, this Christmas season Walmart has had almost all of there lanes open. It hasn’t been nearly as bad as it has been in the past.

  45. DF2Y says:

It Burns- I agree, the 3 days right before Christmas they did have many lanes open. But the first 2-3 weeks in december was still a joke. The “Walmart: we’re having more lanes open this holiday season than ever!” commercial was clearly not filmed in Antigo, Wisconsin.

  46. Sherry says:

Hard to have cashiers at every lane when they are cutting staff along with the rest of the businesses in town and around the country. This recession is a time that I don’t believe anyone will every forget.

  47. smurfofantigo says:

I have a few things to say, I feel some of the workers at Walmart are not treated fairly. The stockmen are expected by some csms to stay out in the weather no matter what conditions and get in carts. Some are treated very rude called names . People talk about the rude cashiers what about the rude cams.amber and Cathy. coworkers need to be treated with respect. When reported nothing is done. Now headquarters wants times, names and more details. The workers are not treated like the founder of Walmart{Sam Walton} Seems all is for the almighty DOLLAR. Now hours are cut and costumers are not getting the service they should get.

  48. IHateWalmart says:

Customers can’t forget that employes are emotionally abused by the management. Store Mng Lori is very verbally abusive. She threatens peoples jobs when they are in disagreement with her. It is hard for these employees to give customers smiles when they are being abused. The employees are expected to do more jobs and are constintly given more responsiblities. The employees that don’t do there jobs and kiss managements *ss are rewarded. The harder you work there the more they treat you like slaves. They don’t get rid of the people who don’t do there job; because they are usally the ones to nark to management and cause trouble. Store manager Lori and Assistant Christine love conflict.

  49. Is Patsy still there I haven’t seen her in a long tome? I always thought she was a little out there.

  50. antigo says:

at least she was nice and does her job !
