We had a snowstorm last night and got several inches of snow. Which if left alone this morning would have easily melted off the roads and parking lots. So to my surprise when I got up this morning the city employees were out plowing and sanding! I heard them on my scanner! Then to add to that I saw them driving through town with the snow in trucks, which means they were picking up snow that was probably melting in their trucks as they loaded it. To top it all off at 10 a.m. as I am heading to work to earn money to pay these tax paid employees, they are sitting at Farmers Home enjoying a nice breakfast on working time. Also if I have heard right they got paid extra for coming out early instead their normal work shift. To move snow around that was melting as they worked on it. I am not sure who was in charge there and made those decisions, but something just didn’t seem right to me there!

1st of all, quit your wining! 2nd of all, just because they were sitting at Farmer’s home eating doesn’t mean it was on work time! They do get breaks you dumb as*! 3rd of all, had they not plowed the snow and something happened to someone as a result…you’d be paying even more money!
Concerned Taxpayer…do you realize that these street department workers are called in during the middle of the night or early in the morning with no notice to come into work to keep the city streets clean and safe for your driving…do you even care that these people work hard and have families of their own that they need to alter their lives in order to keep you safe…people like you need to think before you open your mouth and complain about things you don’t know anything about…these street department workers went through along rough winter being called in at 1am (multiple days in a row) to make your life easier for you and what do you do about it…you complain about them having a warm meal (which by the way they only get 30 minutes to stop and have this meal do you expect them to not get a lunch break too now and the meal is paid out of their own pocket…NOT by the taxpayer). How would you like it if you were expected to come into work with less than a 15 minute notice and work a full 8 hour shift on a few hours of sleep and then have people complain to you because it snowed last night…don’t be such a fool!! Grow up and start acting like an adult…and if you don’t like the snow then there are plenty of states you can move to where it doesn’t snow ever!!! Get a life and find a real problem to complain about…everyone should be thanking these street department employees for what they do, not harrassing them. How would you like it if I went to your boss and complained to them about every little thing you do???
I’m sure if they didn’t plow someone would be on here talking about how obsurd it was that they had to drive around in the snow and how dangerous it was. Sometimes the City just can’t win.
You know I don’t always agree with what you write “ignorant people suck” but I have to say you nailed it this time. Sometimes the City just can’t win is exactly the truth. Everyone wants something for nothing and when the City makes the attempt to do something, then it is wrong too. I love the fact that they were out plowing the streets so that the ice underneath could be salted/sanded and safe driving restored. When I see them out there I know my tax dollars are being put to good use. When I see some of the council members sit there and collect their stipend for running their uninformed mouths and grandstanding for the camera, that burns me. Give me playgrounds that were empty lots (that used to be filled with cans), give me loans to help businesses retain jobs and fill empty fields, give me lit streets that are safe and sidewalks too. I say, if you don’t like the way things are then work to change them. If you can get any alderperson to listen to you more power to you. If not, then just keep appearing at committee meeting until you are heard or run for office yourself. That is way things are changed. Some want this to be just a little retirement community where there are no jobs and have said so to others. Beware those individuals because that is the true reason business will not come here; because they are not welcomed by the citizens and they cannot find good hardworking people because the hardworking people are eeking out a living every day and their employers want to keep them.
