It is saddening, but, not that surprising to see the announcement in the Antigo Daily Journal today. Apparently after 44 years of business, Leffel’s Supper Club will be closing after June 15th, Father’s Day.
They had wonderful Prime Rib there, along with many other steaks and such. The prices were a bit high and with the economy the way it is right now, I doubt that they were getting very many customers. Even so, it is just another example of what seems like a trend here in Antigo lately.
Sorry to see them close.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service, but a terrible location. Unless you knew it was there, tourists passing through never would’ve found it. I’m going to be sad to see it go, hopefully someone can re-open it someday?

We went there for a fish fry and the salad bar was great but the hot food on the buffet sucked. We each had a half of plat and left. Service kinda sucked too….
Not a huge disappointment.
I agree Michelle,we have gone there maybe twice and did not enjoy the service or the food very much,not too mention the prices they had on everything I am not saddened at all too see it going,maybe somebody will open like the other fella would like but get nicer ppl and better food in there.
It is sad to see this place go. It actually has a long reputation of great food and people used to come from far and near to go there. It has had new owners and I guess they have not been able to keep things going as well, I too have had bad service and cold food and no longer choose to go there. I really hope someone reopens it and gets it going again. It could be a great place again with some good planning and elbow grease.
First Leffel’s, now Black Jack is closing as soon as their lease is up. I guess they made a lot more just catering, and with the price of rent and the hassle of running the restaurant, they’re going back to just catering. Leffel’s didn’t bother me too much, but Black Jack is amazing, I’m very sad to see this one go.
Leffel’s I heard is reopening and bring all the employees back, they will be under new management!!
Leffel’s is being re-opened by a Florida relative of the owner’s of Butch’s SuperValu. I wish them the best (and good luck with the huge climate change)!
At Black Jack last night I asked the waitress if they were really closing, and she said no, it’s just a very bad rumor. It really is bad, since I’ve heard it from almost two dozen people.
I can verify that Blackjack is not closing, just talked to the owner today and it IS a bad rumor.
Glad to hear that they are open! It’s nice to see their specials on this site too, I’ll have to check them out
Schwartzendrubers Customer Service
I can not even explain to you how poorly we were treated when we visited this poor establishment. My sister and I wanted to enjoy and nice dinner and she recommended Schwartzendrubers. So we were seated right away placed our order and took at trip to the salad bar, which was ok. I really enjoyed the soup. While we were up a table of 10 was seated next to us. They ordered and went up to salad bar. We were waiting for probably a half hour and our waitress told us it would just be a few minutes that the table next to us was in a rush so they were going to serve us all at once. Ok…… So they bring out all the food for the table of 10 and there we sit. The table of 10 had eaten all there food and was about to leave before we got ours. So, we start eating after an hour if not longer of waiting……. My steak was so fatty I picked it all off and had barely any meat left. When the waitress asked if everything was ok I said well this steak is all fat. She told the lady walking by, whom I found out later was the OWNER, and she looked at me and said well you ordered rib eye what do you expect!!! Maybe you should have upgraded to prime rib. I said well I understand its going to be a bit fattier but honestly look at this. She started screaming at me. I said Im sorry I guess Im just frustrated because of your long wait and now my foods not that great. She looked at us and started telling us lies about when the other tables order was taken and that this isn’t a fast food restaurant what do you expect. I told her that she was being kind of rude and that I didnt appreciate it. She said well when your rude to me I’m gonna be a B**** right back!!! By this time she had taken my food away because I said I didnt want something different and left me with water to drink. My sister was just sitting in disbelief, I said Iam not paying for this this is crazy. She looked at me yelled across the restaurant and said then I’ll call the cops. I said can I please talk to your manager, she looked like a dish washer, she said I’am the owner. I could not believe what was happening. All because I didn’t like my meal???? She came back over to our table took my sisters food out of her hands and said I want you two to just both leave now quietly. I told her we would leave but that I was NOT going to be quiet about it. I would highly recommend NOT going to Schwartzendrubers, they are very very rude and very overpriced for the food, which doesn’t taste very good. This place will not be in business long with customer service like that!!! Sorry I could needed to let people know what kind of service to except when entering this shabby establishment.
That is just crazy! Thanks for sharing, I will certainly not be going there. Next time try the Nutshell, they are the nicest people and the food is delicious. You will be so much happier. Like their ad says, it really is worth the drive. Sorry this happened to you.
Really??? First of all…I have been going to This establishment since the new owners took it over…..I know that the owner does not have very good customer service skills…as she does come accross as a little rude…but….she is a wonderful business person…and quite frankly…I had a problem with an order…she came out…and I was nice to her and told her I would like a different thing…she was gracious and apologized.
We go there at least twice a week and the chef is awesome….the wait staff is great..and the food…well…there is nothing closer to great…..
I would recommend this place to anyone…..and we will continue to go back….with our family from out of town…and with friends…as this place has the ambiance and service that a fine dining restaurant should.

Yeah the Nutshell is a wonderful place to eat the service is good and the food is great. I have also heard many horrible things about the new owners at the old Leffels. Its too bad because this will probably be another business going out and because of poor poor service. It’s really just sad.
Iam very happy to hear that JUST ME was treated graciously at Swarzendrubers. Because honestly I haven’t heard of many that have been treated that great there. I was not rude to her I just told her I did not want another meal. I didn’t want my sister to have to eat by herself and I did not want to wait another hour and I think that that is understandable. There is no excuse to treat your customers the way we were treated. Not acceptable.

I do have to say our waitress was very nice and she was apologizing behind the owners back while she was screaming at us. So thank the lord for the polite waitress, whom we did leave a tip even though we were asked to leave quietly.
Really? This place sucks! We have been there several times in the last couple of months and the food is overpriced, not good and the sevice takes forever. I will spend my money elsewhere.
How you treat people reflects on your business as well who you are as an individual. Part of being in customer service is being able to compose yourself in any situation and even if you are having a bad day to make sure you maintain poise and composure. sorry if my spelling sucks..lol…
You had a right to comment on your food and she should have gone the extra mile to make your meal and experiance worth while. what people dont understand is that one nice comment can travel to 3 or 4 people but a negative one has a butterfly effect!
I`m glad this story was told..I have never been there..was told the food wasn`t the best..so why waste my hard working money on something I won`t enjoy.

I absolutely cannot believe how rude Linnea Swartzendruber is. I’ve been told her husband is somewhat understanding, but wow. The few times I’ve had run-ins with Linnea, I could not believe how rude she was. I work in customer service every day at the hospital I work at, and there, I work with people who are sick and vulnerable. It is MY job as an employee to show them the best customer service I can and make sure they leave our facility satisfied. Granted, I wasn’t dying or sick the few times I’ve been into Swartzendrubers, but customer service is the MOST important part of visiting a business – no matter what the business is! Threatening to call the cops on someone because they weren’t satisfied with an overprice, fatty steak sandwich?! Talk about over-dramatic! Any other business owner would have apologized continuously, offered to replace the meal, and if the customer wasn’t interested in waiting or receiving anything else, they’d apologize for a millionth time that she/he was unsatisfied with their selection, and told them they wouldn’t charge them…all while keeping calm and POLITE. Not only that, but they also wouldn’t push their order aside for a larger family that came in AFTER them and didn’t have reservations ahead of time. What makes that family any better than you or your sister? Them assuming the other family would order more, pricier food, and so they just shoved the two younger gals aside? Not expecting a good tip from younger people. That’s extremely rude. Sadly, however, because Antigo lacks ‘nicer’ establishments, people go here, hoping for good food and great service, and Swartzendrubers lacks both of those things. Leffels…come back!
You have NO idea how terrible she was to my sister and I. Honestly, it’s unexplainable. The entire restaurant was staring at her screaming at my sister and I. How embarrassed must she feel? Wow.
She was so out of line that our waitress was standing in the background, apologizing over and over again behind her back, for her rude behavior. And when we got up, I stopped the waitress, told her it wasn’t her fault at all, and asked her for smaller bills so I could give her a tip. She apologized AGAIN for everything, and walked to the cash register to get change. While at the register, the female owner walked up to her, asked her what I was giving them money for, and when the waitress told her that I wanted to leave her a tip, she ROLLED HER EYES and stomped away. Are you kidding me!?!?! What a rude woman. NEVER will I give Swartzendrubers another dollar of my hard earned money. Unreal.
We went there several months after the new owners took over just to try it. It was a Friday night. It was not busy- there were only about 15 people at the bar. The new owners were both behind the bar visiting with someone. We took a seat at the bar, and sat there a good 10 minutes before we even got acknowledged! Once we finally got served, it took another half hour to get a table in the dining room (which was also nearly empty). Our waitress did not offer any of the specials or even a glass of water. We ordered the ‘buffet’ which was a huge mistake. Most of the food was either swimming in water or dried out and overcooked. Awful! Bad food, bad service. We’ve not been back there since. At least the Leffel family was friendly and their food was fit to eat.
So glad I checked the Buzz before we went there. The only person who had anything nice to say at all was “JUST ME” and she even admitted:

Well, sounds like this person is absolutely unqualified to run any kind of business that offers service to the public. Stuff travels fast in a small town and with that kind of reputation you will not last long. Too bad Ms. Swartzendruber, looks like you were rude to the wrong sisters! If I was there and witnessed this, I would have walked out with you ladies!
I am a bussiness oumer in the antigo community. I just would like to say that I read this buzz alot and I think that if someone is going to trash a bussiness that they should tell the truth of what happened. I know as people, we alway want to make out ourselfs as the victum not the agresser. That is why I don’t let anyones personal experance judge for me. People don’t ALWAYS tell the TRUTH.
Ooooh! Ooooh! If we’re gonna badmouth businesses (or complain about “customer service”), can you start a separate discussion? I’ve got LOTS of complaints about Antigo businesses. ;-P And I promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

Good point, O’Brian, about complaining about a whole category of business. I’d like to put some heat on payday loan offices, tanning salons, roll-your-own cigarette operations, health and “wellness” scams, and chiropractors, to name just a few of the businesses we can do without. Looks like we’d have to start a culture of rational sensibility! Around here, that would definitely qualify as a counter-culture.
I had gone to eat at swartzendrubers once and over heard a comment made by linnea, if they (customers) are spending money here… its ok, if not they can kiss my a** and get the he** ou of here, WOW ! she appears to be a snotty little girl.. does she not know that antigo is too small of a town to be treating anyone poorly in.
