Seems some small towns are revitalizing themselves
with “green” projects. Imagine fields of wind
generators around Antigo. Might manage to generate
some “green” in the local economy, too.

With all the hot air from the malcontents in this city, i would swear we already have them
Lol voiceofreason…that’s hilarious!
Yes. funny! But seriously folks … we actually looked into this a few years ago and found it super expensive! I think it would be a great idea, but we could not afford to start it.
I would love the idea. I would support it if the community chips in. But people complain and have blocked wind farms in other communities because they think it will drive property values down. But those are the same people who complain about the price of energy.
I think we need to look into this again and not permanently dismiss it just because someone gave it a look a few years back. . Times are changing and there may be start-up grants now that make it more feasible. Combinations of wind and sun and traditional power, along with incentives (or requirements) to build energy efficient buildings could transform the local energy market. We need to become more self-sufficient or the local economy will not revive.
I agree! I would love to see this happen in Antigo. Yes, we did look into it about 1O years ago and it was very very expensive. However, we are just one family and there was no help available back then to get it going. In fact, most people thought we were nuts back then! Obviously, the need for this NOW is much more serious and there probably are grants available or much easier ways to get backing on it. It is something I would be thrilled to donate both money and time to help with.
Wind energy is a great idea. I know of an older gentleman on Gruber St. who had a small wind generator set up years ago. His name was Floyd Galarowicz, and the windmill he used is still in his backyard. I think he connected the windmill to an induction motor and ran the leads back to a light bulb. A very small project, but the seed for wind energy was planted at least 20 years ago.
does anyone know who owns or operates the wind generator out by elcho
There is a wind turnine south of Elcho, owned by Dr. Wetzel, DDS.
sorry, turbine
There are both good & bad about wind farms. Check out this link at http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/wayoflife/08/17/bitter.wind.ap/index.html
