The behavior of Antigo Middle students & the role that lack of leadership and consequences both at home & in school plays in this problem that is basically hidden from the community.
Be who you are & say what you want, because those that matter don’t mind & those that mind don’t matter.

The younger generation has very different values and morals as those of us, say in our thirties & forties. There is a major lack of respect for authority and elders. I remember being told ALL through my childhood to “respect your elders”. You NEVER would talk back to a teacher or someone’s parent and NEVER to your own parents. Society has changed in many ways and there is certainly some room for improvement with our youth. The younger generation is LAZY and it seems as though this problem isn’t getting any better. The parents and teachers need to step up and make changes.

I agree with kids being disrespectful. I am in my early 30′s and when I was growing up, I had to help on the farm after school and weekends. I never had electronic devices and got the belt to my butt a few times along with some spankings. When I was old enough to work, I had a job bussing tables at a local bar. When I was able to drive I paid for my first car and paid my own car insurance. I worked part time after school and all summer. Graduated high school and went on to college. My parents taught me to respect my elders and treat others as I want to be treated. Most kids my age were brought up the same way. Now I have noticed with these days that most, not all, are lazy and have no respect for anyone..not even themselves. They don’t want to work and when they do, they are useless and call in. They are getting cell phones at a young age and have little or no responsibilty at home. Whatever happened to household chores? My kids are not old enough for that yet, but they do take out the smaller garbages when we have to go to the dump. I know kids need to be kids, but they still should have some responsibilty and show some respect. Some parents now days are obsessed with working and don’t take time to spend with their kids and teach them right and wrong. And in regards to the spanking, it is not abuse. It is a form of discipline. You can spank your kids, but when you spank them repeatedly, that is different. Where does it say that you CAN’T spank your kids? Is it a law? I don’t think so. Parents can use any form of discipline they choose and what works for them. But like I said there is spanking then there is abuse. I agree ‘Big Trucker’ parent just need to say NO. I know I am guilty of that, but I am not perfect. I also know there are kids out there that are respectful of their teachers, parents, etc…
You cannot blame a whole generation for a few kid’s problems. I am 17, have a job, do it well, respect everyone I meet, do good in school, and have commen sense. I believe it’s people like you that have no hope in my generation that makes some kids disrespectful. Just because we walk into a store, sag our pants and laugh a little bit doesnt mean we’re high and stealing stuff. SOME of you older people assume too fast and don’t give us a chance to prove this “generation” stereotype wrong. Take a chill and get to know some of the town’s children, you’d find out half of us arent as scary as we might look…
As for music and other hobbies…don’t judge children on what they listen to, what they wear, ect. Get to know them for who they are, not how they express themselves. I listen to rap/dubstep music, have a sound system in my car, wear my pants a little loose, and even smoke marijuana. But guess what, I still get straight A’s. Im still respectfull to everyone I meet. I hold a steady paying job. We get bullied enough at school, we don’t need all the older people we’re supposed to be looking up to to just shrug us off as criminals. All of the people that say my generation is “lazy”, “disrespectful”, “bad”, Im sorry to say but your theory is completely false. As for Marijuana, LEGALIZE! It will keep the community away from crack
Smoking reefer isn’t going to score you ary points with most bosses, and like it or not, it’s illegal. I have been in on more than my share of hiring people over the years and the person doing the hiring doesn’t have to tpo try to understand why you may look how you do, but rather, you have to try to impress that person.
I’m not saying your a bad apple, but unless a 17 yr old kid is hiring you, you’ll need to look at your understanding of how society looks at people… right or wrong.
@ AlexP
So you are the small percentage in this town that has a job and does well in school and shows some respect. But there are still some kids out there that are disrespectful not only to others, but to themselves.
I agree big trucker…what employer is going to hire someone on drugs. They risk the saftey of other employees and others at factories or other places that require equipment/machinery.
@big trucker
Marijuana is not a drug, but a plant. And many employers hire people that smoke pot, I know tons of people that have high-paying jobs and like to smoke to relax on the weekend.
@ahs grad
“SOME KIDS!” There are some adults that are the same. Even some seniors are disrespectful in their own way. Don’t blame a whole generation and put a bad rep on their heads just because the kids you do meet are complete idiots.
You might know someone smoking dope that has a job, but not one that has to take a drug test. Look at a CDL. You get caught smoking weed and that baby’s gone, as well as most other jobs.
If there are employers higing people that they know are smoking dope, shame on them!
You would never get hired at the casino smoking weed. They do a drug test before you get hired and random ones every so often. If you want a good job you can’t do that crap. If you want a little respect from your peers smoking that crap isn’t going to get you that.
I would not hire a person I had definite knowledge of any drug use. And if one of my employees were to get hurt or cause an accident, they would be drug tested (company policy) and if found to have an illegal substance in their system, they would be fired immediately. And that is just my civilian job. I am the Joint Substance Abuse Program NCOIC in the Antigo National Guard unit. I am required to randomly drug test all soldiers. If one of us comes up hot, there is a process (a long process) that will most likely lead to separation from the military under less than honorable conditions.
I don’t think that people who smoke pot are bad people, I just think they are limiting themselves. @AlexP: I hope for your sake that your employer does not see your post or that he does not know who you are. Otherwise, I am sure you will not keep that job for much longer.
Well said!
I know a lot of teenagers who get good grades and have a steady job. Most of the youth I know are trying to help this town and are respectful. You can’t judge a whole generation on the troubbled teenagers. Just because you hear about the troubbled ones doesn’t mean we are all that way, their are a lot of well behaved teenagers that you just don’t know or hear about.
I am 17, I have a job, get good grades, and I bought my own car. I also pay for insurance and gas. I also have a lot of friends who have to pay for things themselves, they all get good grades and have jobs too. My friends and I respect our elders and it’s not fair for people to just assume all teens are bad, because it is not true.
