Apparently some Antigo residents are gathering names on petitions in order to try to get Aldi’s to put a store here. This has been going on for a bit now and I am told that they are close to meeting their goal.
The petitions are available at: Hardees, Quality Time, Remington’s and Family Dollar.

@James O’Brien. Once again you’re in la la land! Have you always had a problem with comprehension? I’ll try to make it easier for you. I do not have a family of six. I wish I did! I simply wrote that you can’t feed a family of six on ten fors.
I’ll not respond to the remark about Jesus. I have too much respect for Him!
@ savvy shopper: I agree with you 100% !
@ Love the Buzz: Thank you so much for previous work with the Antigo Chamber,
your passion for Antigo improvement and your comments regarding
Cont’d (opps)
regarding the topic at hand.
And finally:
@ James O’Brien: Your pseudo-intellectual remarks are simply self indulgent and asinine.
Everyone is entitled to their own views regarding these posts. You present yourself as an angry Bully-Wanna-Be. Yawnnnn….
James O’Brien the thing that made Antigo what it is today is the small businesses owned by arrogant people charging way more than they should have for their goods because there was no place else in town to get these things. That spurs competition and opportunity for companies that can and will save you money. Did you know that Aldis is the Walmart of Germany? Walmart does not exist in Germany because when they tried to compete against the quality and price of Aldis they were shot down by the German population. Aldis offers many more products in their stores over there. You can not blame the shoppers of any community for paying the best price for their goods. Most of your points are so off base that I am starting to think you are Jerry Muelver or one of his multiple personalities?
@Really – It must be really troubling to you to think that there may be more than one analytical Liberal out there…. Get used to it. They’re EVERYWHERE!
Thank you @Really for your information concerning Aldi in Germany. You were absolutely correct when you wrote James O’Brien’s (?) points were off base!
@Jerry Muelver. What does an analytical Liberal have to do with bringing an Aldi store to Antigo? I don’t think of O’Brien as being analytic or Liberal. I think of him/her as being stupid! When I read posts where the writer is trying to come off as being “politically correct”, I think of E.M. Cioran’s quote, “If we could see ourselves as others see us, we would vanish from the spot.”
@Love the Buzz – I was summoned from the depths of my lair by an attempted misuse of my name in a derogatory sense when, as everyone knows, it is more properly used as high praise.
@ Jerry Muelver. I have to admit Jerry. That was a good one!
Except that I wasn’t trying to be politically correct, and I’m not sure that most of you even know what that means.
My issue was with “Love The Buzz” and their comments about how Antigo residents have to shop out of town. When I suggested that we work with what we already have to strengthen the community, he/she said that I was all wet, that there was nothing IN Antigo, and insisted that we all had to shop elsewhere. And THEN they turn right around and demand to know where all the support for the community is? Does that make sense – to ANYone?
It’s sheer stupidity. But I consider the source. People like you, @Really, and your cohorts aren’t interested in intelligent discussion/debate. You only reason for being here – as evidenced by your constant foaming at the mouth – is to attack others. Small minds talk about other people. Doctors must be truly amazed at what’s inside of your head.
And if some of you are so unhappy with Antigo, the businesses here, and the residents – why the hell don’t you just get up and leave? It seems all some of you can do is criticize and complain. Don’t like? Go elsewhere. Your negative comments and constant bellyaching do nothing to support any community.
@Jerry. We agree again Jerry. “@Really – It must be really troubling to you to think that there may be more than one analytical Liberal out there…. Get used to it. They’re EVERYWHERE!” I know they are. I was doing some volunteer work at the nut house and thought I was at a democratic convention. It is good to see you all have a place to go where someone takes care of you until you get bored and find some other constitutional right to destroy. I was worried you were all homeless because of George Bush or something.
@ James O’Brien. Could you and Jerry at least take turns posting on here. There is only so much chasing of the tail around the tree and cherry picking to go around and Jerry was here first before he created you.
Albus is also ahead of you.
@Really. Am I correct in reading your posts that you think maybe Jerry Muelver, Albus, and James O’Brien are using the same user name? If so, it makes me feel a little better. When I read one of O’Brien’s posts I told a friend of mine that he wrote just like Jerry Muelver. Then I thought-no-it could not be Jerry. Jerry has too many smarts to write such asinine nonsense. I would be SO disappointed in a man with such a vocabulary, if he would be in cahoots with the likes of O’Brien.
O’Brien made it clear that his issue is with me. Like I wrote before, he is in la la land, completely out of touch with reality! One just has to read my posts to prove this man (?) is reading something that isn’t there. He writes that I talk negatively about our community, encouraging people to shop out of town. In my first post on this thread I wrote that I felt like a Benedict Arnold agreeing thay Antigo needed an Aldi store. I wrote if an Aldi store did not open in our town, we will have to shop at Aldis in Wausau while our kids shop at Kohls. A first grader could have read the irony. Over 50% of young adults in Antigo shop at Kohls, and Kohls is practically across the street from Aldi. @Really, I think that you are one of the very few who makes sense on this blog! I find you intelligent and fair. I enjoy reading your posts! As far as my posts are concerned, I’m not trying to win a popularity contest! So, O’Brien, what you see is what you get, and you ain’t seen nothing yet!
@Love the Buzz – No, Jerry Muelver and James O’Brien are NOT the same person. But it can now be told – Really is actually my creation, an alter ego I use to stimulate conversation by posting the stupidest, most idiotic comments I can fabricate. It worked pretty well, too! I had you going for quite a while, there. However, I have run out of stupid things to say, since stupidity is not my strong suit, so it’s time to say “goodbye”, and good riddance, to Really!!
@Jerry Muelver. Really? No more Really? I’m crushed! He was my favorite!
@LoveTheBuzz My issue was with those who don’t want to work with what already exists in the community. If that happens to be you, so be it. You very first response to me was “You see Mr. O’Brien, it’s a little late in the game to start keeping your dollars here in Antigo.” You’ve given up…. yet now you’re backtracking? At least have the decency to own your statements… especially when it’s right on the screen for everyone to read.
As for posters being the same person, hmmm… maybe Really and Love are the same person? Tell ya what… if it bothers you so much, contact the owner of this blog. I’m sure they have access to IP addresses. And while you’re waiting for a response, maybe you could post a pic of “all of you” in your tinfoil hats?
I am not anyone else on this board. But – I take it as a compliment if you want to think of me as Jerry. At least he has the ability to post rational, intelligent thought, as opposed to the basic “you suck” comments that Really & Love The Buzz post anytime someone disagrees with them.
@James O’Brien. Sorry to disappoint you James (?), but I’m the one and only Love the Buzz. I see you are still having a problem with comprehension. Once again, I will try to help you. Go back and read my posts, and yours. My first post on this thread was submitted on March 17. You responded on March 28. You suggested people should be using the ten for ten dollar items that were offered. I wrote back that you could not feed a family of six on ten fors. I did not say I have a family of six. Note that in my first post I had mentioned anyone raising a family should take advantage of Aldi’s low prices. You had the audacity to ask if Aldi’s had discounts on birth control. Lame brain, I don’t have a family of six, but if I had a family of ten, that would be none of your business! Just pay attention to what goes on in YOUR bedroom. You bet I said it was a little late in the game to start keeping your dollars in Antigo, and went on to say why. I notice you made no comment when asked what you had done to keep business here. I’m all for seeing an Aldi store come to Antigo, but if that doesn’t happen, I’m all for the shoppers going to Aldi in Wausau. You see James (?), you just CAN’T feed a family of SIX on ten fors!
@James O’Brien. Read Jerry Muelver’s last post. I don’t think he will like what you said about Really!
@Jerry Muelver. Oh Jerry I thought that was going to be our little secret? unfortunately Jerry the new meds the Dr gave us are not quite potent enough to rid you of me. As far as ” However, I have run out of stupid things to say, since stupidity is not my strong suit” Don’t sell yourself short Jerry. I have confidence that you are full of many more stupid things to say. As a matter of fact I see it as a bottomless pit when it comes to you.
Take note posters. What Jerry means when he says “I use to stimulate conversation by posting the stupidest, most idiotic comments I can fabricate. ” Translation is when I post things that lack common sense or any rational amount of reasoning I must back peddle and try to convince you all that I am not really that senseless and I was just messing around or creating conversation on the subject.
@James O’Brien. Do you really feel that it is the buyers responsibility to spend locally regardless of the price difference? The successful business owner creates an incentive to to bring you in. That is not to say that I think Walmart being here is the best thing for this or any community. I find the fact repulsive that we subsidize Walmarts profits through social welfare programs because they do not provide decent benefits and pay for their employees while they pull in unbelievable profits.
@Really How much are people really saving if they have to drive to Wausau, Rhinelander, Appleton, etc. – esp. with the price of gas these days? If you’re there, fine. People in the northwoods have limited shopping, and it’s been customary to shop elsewhere – if you’re there. Or even if you’re not there.
Unfortunately, smaller businesses can’t always offer competitive pricing. Still they add a lot to the community. They ARE part of the community. When was the last time Walmart held a fundraiser in Antigo for someone that lost a house in a fire, or needed medical treatment that insurance wouldn’t cover?
It’s entirely up to the shopper, I guess. But there’s absolutely no need to complain about businesses that are here… or insist/expect/demand/sign petitions to bring large chains to small towns – and then wonder what happened to the community.
I can’t say I read all of the posts, but I say bring them in. I would support more of the small businesses, James, if they were not damn near twice as expensive on some items. James, if you don’t want other businesses here, maybe YOU shold move to some place that doesn’t allow competitions.
Hey Jerry, did you, Albus, James, and whoever else you post as all sign the recall petitions? I thought so.

Hey Mr. O,
Many people have already left Antigo. I graduated from AHS in 1975 and a photo on my yearbook shows Antigo’s population at over 10,000. I returned to visit my relatives a few months ago and the population sign on the south side of town shows it at 8,000 +. What happened? I guess the people left. I did, I moved to Virginia. When I was in school I could actually shop in Antigo – Penney’s, Thelma’s Wards, Mary’s, Spurgeon’s, Kingsbury’s photo and gift shop, Paul’s Dept store on the corner of 5th and Superior, which was razed years ago for a drive-through bank. It wasn’t a half bad place to shop. Now there is nothing.
