I have heard recently that the community leaders or council of
Antigo want to even FURTHER cut back on the bus services
in our area. They are thinking about cutting a driver and a day
or so a week. (I don’t know what else at the moment.) With
having them take so much away already and how it benefits
our community, I was just wondering why they don’t cut
somewhere else. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
(I was told no one was supposed to know and we still aren’t
until they make their decision.) Shouldn’t we, as citizens of
Antigo, know?
..

FYI- The City has nothing to do with the bus service or how it is run. This was a project through the Committee on Aging offices and I believe that falls under Langlade County jurisdiction (but I could be wrong, it might be a state office).
The initial program was set up as a result of a large grant for the County.
I stand corrected. The city is contemplating a plan to help fund the bus route service within the city on Fridays. This is going to council soon I believe.
The transportation was originally managed through the comission on aging. The commission transferred the jurisdiction to the Langlade County Board Executive Committee. This entity now oversees the program. The transportation program is funded completely by grant funds. The cuts were necessary for funding shortfalls. However, I read recently that there was a $5000 supplemental payment given to the Finance Director overseeing the progrem. Why was there enough funding to pay the supplemental payment but not enough funding for routes? We also fund a route into Shawano County, are we receiving funds from Shawano County for this service. It may be funded by grants, but if the grant is written for OUR resident, then OUR residents should be the ones the service is targeted toward.
