The cost of living in Wisconsin is much less than in, say,
California, but, have you ever really thought about what the cold
weather actually costs us?
Not only does your home heating bill go up, but, what about the
cost of winter coats, hats, scarfs, and gloves. Not to mention
the extra costs for your vehicle, adding heat to your gas, the
gas you waste while your car “warms up”. The extra car washes
to help remove the salt from the roads. Is the life of your vehicle
is also shortened due to cold weather? I would have to guess
Yes to that one. How about the cost for shovels, snowblowers,
and sidewalk salt.
So, if it’s so terrible, why do we live here? I would speculate that
close to 80% of those who live in cold states like Wisconsin, do it
because of family and friends. If we didn’t have a reason that was
extremely important, we wouldn’t live here.
So, during this holiday season, please take a moment to think
about why you do live here and what is really important to you.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!
..

As I get older, I really dislike the Wisconsin winters, rather despise them after Christmas is over. I live here because the majority of my family is here, that’s the only reason I put up with the shoveling, messy roads, and frigid temperatures. Once my husband and I are retired, we will be relocating south.
It’s 14 below zero, I have 8 inches of snow on a quarter-mile long driveway winding through the picturesque woods, my walk-behind snowblower has only a 24-inch wide augur hood, I am going to be breathing heavily in air thickened with the particle output of my neighbor’s outside wood-burning furnaces….
My snowblower calls…. Farewell, cruel world!
I think no matter where you choose to live there are advantages and disadvantages. If you lived in Dallas, Las Vegas or Phoenix most never get caught up on the electric bill for running Air Conditioning 10 out 12 months. If you move someplace else you might be required to have earthquake or flood insurance. Would you rather live in a warmer climate where you have to deal with poisonous snakes, black widows, or gators sleeping in your basement? As much as I hate the cold, snow, and the expense of getting plowed out.. The grass may not always be greener on the other side. Someday I might move someday.. But I am stuck here for the time being.
This current cold snap could cause some discomfort. My hot tub spa is outside, about 30 yards from the house, for privacy and the scenic venue. Getting out there is not too much of a problem, though scampering back, with all that wet skin, can be pretty invigorating. But now, with the wind-chill at minus 45 or so, the steam rising from the hot water precipitates into ice crystals, and falls back into the tub as a layer of icy slush on the 104-degree water. The slush freezes into my hair and beard, and I have to keep pushing it to the sides of the tub to keep the middle clear, somewhat diminishing the enjoyment of my morning soak.
