According to the Antigo Journal, Victoria Adamski, the Clerk of
Court, can hire anyone she pleases to fill the position of Chief
Deputy. According to the law, she was within her rights to do this.
Apparently the County Board found other ways to stop her, by
not giving enough votes to fund the position.

I would be a bit upset if I was one of the applicants and found out that a relative was hired. What happened to not being able to work someplace where there is a family member already working? It used to be that way with the city but apparently, it’s not that way in county positions…or is it???
This one confuses me. If there is no policy against hiring family members, than what is the problem? If the family member was the sole voice in hiring this person, then I can see the issue. However, from the info I have recieved as well as what I have read, there were others that agreed to hire this individual and all agreed that the applicant was head and shoulders above the rest of the applicants. I would assume (although this can get one in trouble) that it was clearly pointed out that a family member was in discussions for this position. What were the complaints of the County Board in this hiring? If the sole issue was that the applicant was a family member, than it is a shame that they stepped in and blocked this. Bottom line, the best applicant should be hired. If there was corruption involved, there must be some proof out there.
Yea, as I read it the clerk is in the clear, it’s just the usual county board members on a power trip. It is unfortunate that there is even the slightest appearance of nepotism, but what do you expect in a community this size!?
The reason that she couldn’t be hired wasn’t because they worked in the same office, but because she reported directly to her. If her boss wouldn’t be her mother-in-law….that would be ok
Can you tell me what law that is. I haven’t been able to find any information on what the law states. In the long run, it doesn’t matter as the county board made its decision but I would like to know the basis other than the appearance of wrongdoing.
