Elcho Volunteer Fireman Driving Like a Maniac

Several weeks ago there was a fire call in the town of Elcho.
It was during the evening about 9 PM, the weather was
snowy and the roads were Icy. The firefighters were already
on the scene.. All of a sudden a 4X4 pick up truck is comes
flying around the corner near the Elcho Shell. Truck was
speeding about 60 MPH in a 30 MPH zone. Siren was
blaring, pulls in front of a car turning right onto Highway 45
from highway K, became inches away from hitting the car
which was at a full stop at the stop sign, Turns onto Highway
45. goes full speed ahead, starts fishtailing on Highway 45,
briefly losing control, almost hitting a pedestrian walking on
the sidewalk, darts into the other lane, and was inches away
from a head on collision with a car headed south.

This is absolutely crazy. There was no need to speed. The
fire was minor, A full staffed firetruck was already on the
scene, and the fire was only a few blocks away. It would
have been awful news if the firefighter got into a head on
collision with oncoming traffic or hit the pedestrian. Since
half of the firefighters are EMT’s that would have required
the firefighters to drop the fire and attain to the accident.

The firefighter should be ticketed and reprimanded.
Unfortunately I did not have the plate number or accurate
description of the truck. What an Idiot.

    There are sidewalks in Elcho?

The proper thing to do would be to contact the Elcho Fire Department and file a complaint with them. Although I question how much you actually saw when you can give a nice, detailed description of everything this truck did, however you can not give a description of the truck.

No need to smear the Elcho FD on a forum because of the actions of one person-take it up with their Chief!

Yes, ignorant, your post speaks volumes: The only time we should “smear” someone on this forum is when someone dies. There are so many officials out there that abuse the law just for the simple fact they have a red light on their vehicle. I for one support threads like this – violators of the law need to be punished, even if they are racing (SPEEDING) to a fire.

Tell me this… What would have happened if Mr. Racecarfireman was indeed driving like a maniac, and ended up hitting another car and injuring the driver in the other vehicle. Who is going to come to the scene of this accident while the Elcho FD is putting out a fire? Hmmm… Summit Lake? nope… Pelican Lake? Nope… Antigo or Rhinelander! By that time the poor person would be dead. Who’s responsible for that? But then again, no snowflake in an avalanche ever feels responsible.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t condone the fire fighter’s actions in my post-as I certainly do not. Making a post on this forum will do absolutely nothing to resolve the problem. A complaint to the Fire Chief may bring the matter to light and the problem could be addressed properly.

The other problem is the original post contains several points that would lead me to believe the incident is made up or embellished upon. First, the author was so upset by the issue that they waited several weeks to make a post. Second, the 4×4 pulled in front of a car that was turning on to highway 45, but in the next sentence the car was stopped completely at the stop sign. It can’t be turning and stopped at the same time. Third, although it has been a while since I have been in Elcho, I don’t believe there are any sidewalks on highway 45. And fourth, the author has a detailed description about the actions of the vehicle, including seeing that it was inches away from two vehicles and one pedestrian and travelling at about 60 mph before turning on to 45 from highway K, but they are not able to describe the truck other than a 4×4. A normal 4×4 probably takes around 200 feet to stop from 60 mph on dry pavement. The author claims the road conditions were snowy and icy, which would substantially increase the stopping distance. Let’s say it would add 50% or 100 feet. This is the length of a football field, or almost a city block. In addition, the author continues to observe the vehicle after it turns onto 45 for enough time to see it nearly run over a pedestrian and almost head-on another vehicle. That is an awful long time to watch a vehicle and not be able to describe it.

If it really did happen, they are just as guilty as the driver if something happens in the future because they didn’t go through the proper channels to report the problem and have the driver dealt with.

It is very clear that the person who wrote this has no clue what they are talking about, and is trying to bash elcho fd. I know for a fact there has not been a fire call at night for atleast the last 6 months. And the person is clearly retarded if you can see everything the truck does and does not get a description of it.If you do not have all your facts straight or atleast proof read your lie before you post DON’T POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. This is something that really irritates me – and to be honest I am sure this is why many people in this world would turn a cheek when it comes to reporting a crime! It’s nonsense to get on someone’s case because they are blogging about something that “could have been” an incident that may have taken a life.

On my way to Rhinelander on Friday I drove by the place of interest. And I noticed that Hwy K and Hwy 45 is only one block away from the school. And then right across the street from the gas station (around 3:10 or so), there was a little boy playing on the side of the road, dipping his feet in the mud puddle. With winters the way they are, I’d be enraged if I saw a fireman, ambulance driver, police-office or ANYONE for that matter, drive as foolishly as the poster described.

The poster did word the blog in unprofessional manner, but I am appalled at Mr. Duhhh’s response. Calling someone “retarded” and to “proofread lies” is not a response that relays a message, it only relays Mr. Duhhh’s ignorance and stupidity. Perhaps you, Mr. Duhh should proofread – “atleast” is two words, and there are two spaces between a period and a new sentence. But I am in no way calling you handicapped, am I? I am politely telling you how silly you look when you use the word “proofread” and your post is full of errors that are normally corrected in the 4th grade. Do you work for the ADJ?

It should be our duty as good citizens to report things like this. If it is indeed a lie on the posters behalf, then shame on the person who wrote it, but if it’s indeed true and you work for or know the people who work at the Elcho FD, why not politely bring it up at the next meeting that this may be a concern. Safety should come before catastrophe.

I gotta agree with Ignorant people suck……the person who posted the blog watched that vehicle for long enough to see all that but can’t describe anymore than 4X4 about the vehicle…..Elcho is a small town and the fire dept there is small also……I think all they would need to know who the driver was is was it a ford chev dodge? and what color was it……did it look fairly new or older……..I am sure the chief could figure it out…….and also the chief needs to be contacted directly about this in order to insure he knows about it……….there is no way of knowing if someone who knows him will read this and tell him about it…….and in order to have the matter resolved properly the chief needs to know so he can properly deal with it……..
