  1. I’m very flatterd that people can take time out of their busy day to discuss all of the events that have transpired through out my stay in Antigo. I have to say, it makes me think twice about why things happen the way they do. I want it to be known that what happend to Jim was one of the worst things we can go through as human beings and I can never say sorry enough to make things right. I can never imagine how his family must feel and what they had to go through when the accident happend. I understand that they had a loved one taken from them and it could have been prevented for a number of reasons. But what it comes down to is that what happend was an accident and don’t think for a second that it can’t happen to you. I made that same mistake and it cost people more than we can begin to explain with words. I will never forget that day and how it effected so many people. That includes my family also. As far as my release date and getting out early, I never once asked for special treatment while in prison nor did I think I should of had it do to the accident with my son Hayden. I was guilty of a crime that destroys good people and I understand that I made some very bad choices and had to own up to my wrong doings. And I did just that by serving a Federal prison sentence. As far as my release date went, the rules of prison and the rules we go by in society are so different. It’s a completely different world behind that razor wire, you wouldn’t believe some of the things I’ve seen and had to do while in that personal hell we call prison. When it comes to my son Hayden, He is the love of my life. He’s my chance to make things right in the vicious cycle my family has being going through for years. I truly believe what happend to my son is karma coming back to me three fold. What karma failed to understand is that it didn’t just punish me, if took away something very special to my family. I feel that its because of things like this blog and website that we won’t make it as a species. So many aspects of this situation were handled with poor taste. For everyone effected by my actions I want you to know that I have genuine remorse. I bleed red people, don’t forget that. Also, those of you that have said prayers for Hayden, You are a better person than you know and thank you for your love for human life. We all will be judged some day, I just hope God has mercy on my soul.

I am just curious if I now live in a town so out of touch with reality that they are unable to even get their facts straight? Hayden’s father was there when he was born. He lived with Hayden until his sentencing. He saw Hayden as often as possible during his prison term. He had phone calls with Hayden, who was almost 3yrs, during the times when visits were not possible. Quite frankly he had more to do with Hayden’s day to day life than alot of dead beat dads living down the road from their children, which Antigo seems to have alot of. Hayden was in a terrible accident and his injuries could have been lessened by life guards who weren’t even in the room when it happened! I have many opinions obout that but the point here is this was not karma. Hayden was a beautiful little boy with a whole life of success ahead of him and he certainly was not put on this planet to pay for the sins of his parents. My sympothy goes out to Jim’s family. Their loss is as tragic as Hayden’s accident was tragic. And the friends and families of both parties will forever be scared. But I would like to believe we have evolved past the eye for an eye thinking… thats why we have laws and judges. Brandon’s time was up… sentence served… Now his place is to be with his son… To be the father Hayden needs him to be… to help Hayden recover… to help with Hayden’s rehab and medical treatments… to support the rest of Hayden’s family who is exhausted from the round of clock care Hayden now needs. I assure all of you, who are concerned that Brandon has not suffered enough, being part of Hayden’s full time care team is no easy life. His heart will break everyday as he longs to for the Hayden we used to have. His heart will break everyday as he watches Haydens mother cry for the child who will never be the same or as he tries to give comfort to Hayden’s Grandmothers who try their best to help in any way they can. Not to mention Hayden’d siblings or Aunts and Uncles who are all children themselves and still trying to hold on for a miricle. No I assure all of you that are so concerned with Brandons suffering, it will be as long and slow as Hayden’s recovery. And for those of you so concerned Jim is forgotten, I assure you he is not. He lives on in the hearts of his family and freinds. I personally say a private hello to him everytime I drive by the accident site. I did not know him in life, only in dealth, but I was told he was a good man with a loving heart and i have no reason not to believe this. So sometimes when I watch Hayden suffer through seizures and they abruptly stop. I wonder if Jim himself hasn’t reached down from Heaven to stroke Hayden’s forehead to give him some comfort. I’ll never know the answer to that until I have the chance to meet Jim there and thank him for his kindness. Until then I just thank God Hayden found some peace no matter who’s hand brought it.

Dear Voice of Reason, I read the media account of how the police cheif in Antigo said what a great job the life guards did. Obviously he and you are sadly mistaken. In the lifeguard’s own hand written statements it is written that one life guard paniced and had to be relieved from duty during the crisis and in another hand written statement it is written that the life guard who was supposed to be watching that pool had left the room and entered a storage area. Yeah great job guys. And a really great job in the area of damage control for the cheif. But mostly a great job in a media cover up. There was a time when the news stations actually reported facts now they just report the opinion of a police cheif trying to avoid a scandal. How very sad. Antigo Daily Jouneral just did an article that talked about how over 62% of adults had no faith in the media being accurate… that was probably a cover up too… personally I think the numbers are probably higher!

While I don’t know how it was handled, I do know that a two year old should never be left alone near water. Why are you placing all of the blame on the aquatic center? It’s obvious you are close to the family and my prayers are with them. However, as many on this blog have pointed out, a two year old is not the responsibility of the lifeguards, but the parents. This is a sad situation for all involved. Now it appears the inevitable lawsuit is being filed according to the Journal.

  5. STAN says:

I think it’s ironic that Jim Huhn’s family didn’t sue Brandon for the loss of his life. Yet Hayden’s family is suing the aquatic center for negligence.

NOTanAntigonian, try and change things for the better or move if it’s that bad.

  6. NotanAntigonian says:

Once again the ADJ strikes to spread lies. Brandon is being held responsible for the money owed because of the accident. And as far as the lawsuit. . . Hayden and his family will NEVER see a cent of the money. Assuming they even win the lawsuit, that money will go to lawyers and hospital bills. It will in no way benefit Hayden or even allow him to get the things he needs for therapy that the insurance didnt or wont pay for. Maybe just maybe it will serve as a reminder to Antigo School District to train their life guards. Because I’m sure their lives were effected that day also. I wouldnt wish that on anyone. so maybe if the the family wins the lawsuit things will change and no other family will be put through it.

  7. Otis says:

What did the ADJ lie about? They reported that the beginning stages of a lawsuit have begun, which you seem to have confirmed by stating there is a lawsuit pending. Also, you ignored the question. Why are you holding only the aquatic center responsible? I am in no way trying to minimize what has happened. I just wonder why all blame is placed on the aquatic center and none on parents that left a two year old unattended near water.

  8. NOTanAntigonian says:

Otis, Hayden’s parents were not there. Hayden was there with his sibblings and another family for a birthday party. Children get to go to birthday parties. The adult that was at the birthday party was tending to an injured child because he missed the swim at your own risk sign and was under the impression the life guard assigned to that pool to help keep it safe was actually going to stay in the room.

  9. NOTanAntigonian says:

Also Otis, Hayden’s injuries actually occured during the 10 mins while nobody knew how to do CPR (The job of a life guard) not during the 1-2 mins he was under water. The doctors confirmed it was not possible for his extreme injuries to have happened in those first few minutes. So even though it was not the life guards fault Hayden slipped away and went into the water. They certainly weren’t able to help him after he did. And as much as it sounds like I think that is their fault really I dont. I believe it is the job of their bosses to be sure that they are able to HANDLE AN EMERGENCY/ACCIDENT. They are resonsible for getting these young people trained and practicing drills with them so this doesn’t happen and they dropped the ball letting an unquailified staff oversee a pool that has many children of all ages in it daily. I certainly hope they have made some training changes so this never happens to another family.

  10. ilovemydogs says:

I can’t believe you people are still blogging about this…Not to say that all has been bad, but really can’t we let this go and leave the families just be. Lawsuit or not that is noones business but the family. Noone has the right to talk about that in any way, shape or form. And for the record for people who repeatedly talk about Brandon like he is a bad person…we have been friends for a very long time and he is not a bad person he has just made some bad decisions and he lives with them everyday. He too has feelings. Probably a lot more than some people(Stan) really you should be ashamed(stan) at all you have had to say. A long with a few others on here and to you that are supportive and see the big picture. Thank You!!!

  11. STAN says:

I am not ashamed. If the situation ever arose again I would have the same opinion. Criminals should not have furloughs or be released early under any circumstances. They are there as a punishment and should serve their full sentence. I believe in stricter punishments and I believe in truth in sentencing.

As for my last comment, practive what you preach. Forgiveness, forgiveness, forgiveness.

Brandon has served his time and has a second chance. I hope he takes it and makes the best of himself.

  12. This is not okay.. says:

Being someone who watched Hayden struggle for life on a daily basis, and knows every detail to the story personally, I think a lot of you should be ashamed of yourself for posting such negative comments. Let’s stop blaming people for what happened here. Does it really matter who’s “fault” it is? A young child got the rest of his life taken from him, he’ll never get to experience the things you and I have experienced, because of that 10 minutes someone(doesn’t matter who..) wasn’t doing their job. I continue to pray for little Hayden and his family on a daily basis, though I am no longer dating his older brother, and don’t visit with the family anymore. Obviously, I should be praying for all of you negative people. That someday you’ll find the strength to be better people. Hayden and family, you’re forever in my prayers. <3
