Concealed Carry is good for Wisconsin because...

Open Carry is only legal when you don't do it. Those of us who have been hassled would understand this quite well.

A police officer has no constitutional obligation to protect you from a crime in progress. Basically, an officer can just stand by, watch, and then apprehend the perpetraitor after he kills you.

I know, I know, but nothing ever happens in Langlade County. That's what they keep telling me anyway. If that's 100% true and infallible as so many like to believe. Why do the taxpayers of Langlade County pay to equip officers with weapons and body armor? If nothing happens anyway... isn't it just a waste of money anyway? Why have a police station even?

Plenty of facts out already on that case as far as I can tell. What's the question?

@Ben - Thanks for the offer, but I think I'll pass. I would be much more interested in seeing a bow-and-arrow show, with demonstrations and competitions. I would even like to see a revival of the sling (not sling-shot, but the whirl-around-your-head throwing kind), and spear-throwing. I'm not big on gunpowder, or even internal combustion, preferring sailboats over speedboats, bicycles over motorcycles, etc. Muscle-power is far more civilized, it seems to me. It puts you more in contact with the consequences of your effort, and gives you more personal ownership of what you're doing.

@Really - Me, cherry-picking? Reread this, "Wait until all the facts are in, instead of the fabricated stories. You believe what you want to believe. I believe what the evidence shows. That means I’ll wait for more evidence before drawing a conclusion." I was just commenting on the latest reported evidence, not making any accusations or convictions. Looks like you lept to another too-early conclusion.

Jerry you must be picking cherries early again this year. There are pictures of the guy with bruises and cuts on his face. He didn't show up anywhere, the police came to them as they tend to do in the event of something like this taking place. Did you know that Mr Zimmerman volunteers and helps teach inner city kids, of all races? Or did that slip right by your list of important information also?

I was at the gun show at the fairgrounds this evening. The parking lot was packed as always with hundreds of people in attendance. Twice a year the gun show comes to Antigo and draws thousands of gun collectors, hunters and sportsman who spend tens of thousands of dollars. It never ceases to amaze me the crowd that shows up for this event. Jerry, you must be the only guy in town that doesn't go. C'mon, I'll pay your $5 admission fee and sign you up with the NRA. :)

The only people leaping to conclusions are the race baiters (Obama, Sharpton, Black Panthers, Jackson, etc). Or how about the genius Spike Lee tweeting Zimmerman's address...and it was wrong!! How can you believe what the evidence shows, are you a cop in Sanford?? Then you don't know what the evidence is, nor does the kneejerk reaction left.

You leap to conclusions too easily. Turns out, Zimmerman showed up unmarked, no blood, no broken nose, no bruises, no marks at all, at the police station direct from the scene of the crime. Wait until all the facts are in, instead of the fabricated stories. You believe what you want to believe. I believe what the evidence shows. That means I'll wait for more evidence before drawing a conclusion.

Jerry everything in life relies on the judgment of someone, what kind of a statement is that? The streets are full of former soldiers that in many cases have more extensive training in assessing a threat than the average police officer. Do we remove those police officers from providing our protection because they have to assess and make a judgement call? We live in an armed nation and just because some chose to carry legally how do we become more in danger? More responsible legal permit holders with guns vs illegal criminals carrying guns than we had before. Seems like a common sense win to me.
I am guessing from the hoodie remark you are squirming in your chair as you hope there is proof that George Zimmerman is found guilty of murdering Trayvon Martin? And the obvious to me is that you would like that only to have some kind of fuel for your cause. The fact is Trayvon is a High School football ball player who could have outrun George if George was really harassing him. That would mean he would have been shot at distance in the back. I am also quite sure that George Zimmerman would not have had cuts to his head and a bloody nose from a guy that he had just killed in cold blood. And I know this one is hard for you Jerry but there is a witness that saw Trayvon on top of George beating the crap out of him. I doubt he was shot for wearing a hoodie either. What really bothers me is when it is white on black it gets many miles. Do any of you know about the white couple that was kidnapped, rapped brutally and the man had his genitals cut off and stuffed in his mouth before they were killed and burned by their two black assailants? That didn't to many miles now did it.

@Stand United - You said, "ID the threat, use the force necessary to take care of the threat." Of course training should focus on the assessment of threat. That's an essential part of police training as well as the firing range sessions we got in US Army Basic Training. But since the assessment relies on the judgment of the assessor, this is both the main strength and the major weakness of the "arm the citizens" movement. From time to time, I've been known to wear a hoodie....
