After reading a bit in the Antigo Daily Journal about a proposed storm water utility, a few questions have come into my head. I don’t feel that it is right that anyone should have to pay for rain water runoff on their property. It is something that is beyond our control. When you look at the big picture though, it may not cost any more in the long run as when flooding problems occur. When flooding occurs and/or problems with the city’s water system, who pays for it now, we do, as taxpayers. So, the creation of this “utility” will do what really? Will we just be placing more taxes on certain individuals or businesses who have more run-off than others? How is that fair? Do we really need a “utility”, why, so we can pay out more money to workers with government benefits! Do we need another utility? I think many questions need to be answered before this plan goes forward.

Just a thought, when I first moved to Antigo, My garbage pickup was free, we had basically the same park system ( sans the playground on field street ), and all around cheaper utilities. Now not only has my property taxes jumped (belive me I could not sell my house for any more) but just about every other service now costs me money. Just wondering if at one point this city was able to afford to take care of its self and citizens with the money they had available at the time, now with us all paying for everything that tax dollars used to pay for, plus higher taxes being collected, i’m no math major but something is not adding up.
Forgive me for pointing out the fact that costs everywhere have gone up. Are you living on the same wage you made several years ago? I doubt it. I don’t like taxes going up either but that’s part of life. It is a lot worse in other areas.
How can you charge for what the rain ,next you’ll try chaarging for the sunshine, we already pay for the snow ,an the are you going to charge us for that come on .you have to learn the word know on these assin nine charges come on antigo stand for your rights it the people that can stop this foolish charges.
Somebody has to pay for Soumis’ inability to manage the budget.
Actually Ignorant People Suck, somebody has to pay for Monson’s inability to manage the budget and his cronies of course. The problem dates back to them voting a zero percent increase when they were in office and the chickens have been coming home to roost since then. You don’t believe me, ask Mike Matousek who had to follow him and try to manage the mess that was created.
Otis…as a matter of fact, YES I am living on the same wage that I was making several years ago in this town. Sad, but true.
Otis… We are also living on the same wages (actually a lot less) than a few years ago. We had the choice to become unemployed or take a pay cut. We both chose to take the pay cut.
If the local cops and Sheriff’s deputies would enforce the seatbelt law, Langlade County and Antigo would be rolling in the dough. We wouldn’t need increased taxes or fees of any kind! Just stand on the corner at Superior and Fifth, or by Walgreen’s, and take a little belt non-compliancecensus. Thar’s money in them thar hills!
They got me awhile back.
Its surprising how many people look to blame others when there are problems in a community.Ours will continue to get smaller for a number of reasons. The local government has taken the approach that raising the cost of doing business here is good.Virtually every new house has been built just outside the city limits for a reason.i think it would be fare to look at how our city investments have panned out since us radical conservatives left. The water project was over ran well over 1 million dollars for future growth=1 new house and we all have alot higher monthly water bills.Broadband needed to create jobs net loss at least 250000 and you have to use fuzzy math to get there. We now have payments for a boardwalk just wondering the economic impact this will bring in oh its nice but don’t you really think a safe sidewalk to our high school could have been a priority over this.its sad that we shovel and salt the boardwalk and kids have to walk to school on a icy truck route.lets not forget the skilled wages with health benefits and retirement for the guys shoveling the snow.skilled wages for unskilled work must be what they call being progressive. In closing we are one of the top three indebted communities in Wisconsin. We are over 80 % of our allowable debt that didn’t come from a year of 0%increase many years ago.The gutter tax is just another way to increase the cost to live and do business here.Shouldnt a priority to keep out infrastructure in a community up.Now because they were the easy cuts they can tax our schools church and all other non profits. In the end if you aren’t in line for a handout you wont miss them when there gone !!
