World’s Oldest Man Lives in Antigo! (by Albus)

A stunning revelation in the authoritative Antigo Daily Journal for
October 28, 2009, establishes an Antigo resident as the world’s
oldest living man. The announcement, in an advertisement on page
6 titled “Langlade County Historical Society Fall Banquet” reads
as follows:

“Speaker: Fred Berner
Antigo Daily Journal
Published daily since 1905, Mr. Berner will recount the paper’s
history and the role of local newspapers in a small community.”

Assuming that Mr. Berner began his newspaper career at about
age 25 after college and a bit of knocking about, since he’s been
published daily since 1905 Mr. Berner has to be about 130 years
old now in 2009.

We are honored to have the world’s oldest man, some fifteen years
older than the previous record, living right here in Antigo. We are
applying to the Guiness Book of Records for certification of the

record, and expect to have additional documentation provided by
the Antigo Daily Journal and the Langlade County Historical Society
concerning Mr. Berner’s remarkable longevity and unparalleled
career of continuous daily publication for over 104 years.

We will continue to collect and display examples of Mr. Berner’s
journalistic output, and hope to be doing so for many years to come.
