  1. Albus says:

The jammed parking lot and blocks-long line for the drive-thru do a good job of keeping traffic off Antigo’s streets. Has anyone timed how long it takes to get through the line? For Dairy Queen it’s, like, ten seconds.

  2. robwatrp says:

Albus, what kind of reply is that?

Are you negative about everything!! I get sick of your replies to things.

Of course it is going to be busy the first week. The mexican restaurant has been packed too.

How does Dairy Queen compare to Taco Bell/KFC????

You can get throught Dairy Queens line in 10 seconds because it will cost you 9 dollars for 12 oz. of ice cream with a few smased cookies in it.

I ate lunch at 11:45am the other day with my wife and it took a little time to get the food, but we were patient, and assumed it would take a while.

Maybe I am alone on here but your responses are annoying.

Why don’t you do Antigo a favor and move the hell out of town!

  3. Albus says:

Robwatrp, I’m afraid I’m not in the business of community cheerleading. I pretty call it as I see it. but, if it makes you happy, here’s something in the style of a smalltown newspaper Pollyanna Everything’s Wonderful report that may be more to your liking:

The much-awaited opening of the new Kentucky Fried Chicken and Taco Bell mega-complex finally arrived after waiting for the opening after the construction of the building after the raising of the old building after the business closed.

Waiting in long lines at the drive-thru, chicken was served in several styles to waiting customers, as they waited their turn, as the line wound through the parking lot, as the lot was next to the street where vehicles entered after other vehicles made room by moving forward after the vehicles in front moved. Customers paid for their purchases and motorists drove off with their orders and reports suggested normal traffic resumed and local law enforcement officials indicated that traffic was orderly after only one fender-bender mishap in the corded parking lot and there was heated discussion among the vehicle operators and official reports suggested there were no injuries.

One customer suggested after taking her order home after purchasing it after waiting in line that her chicken seemed a bit under-done after sampling the chicken she bought, and most customers indicated they were well satisfied and customers were happy to have KFC back in Antigo but residents also indicated that Taco Bell also was awaited as customers eagerly sampled new combinations of Taco Bell’s five basic ingredients in new combinations.

  4. robwatrp says:

How the hell did you turn your original post and my response into a discussion about a newspaper article?? WOW! I browse the paper daily, but don’t spend my life editing it.

Maybe you should review your own writing above, line 2 Albus said,

“I pretty call it as I see it…”

Nice, I don’t know if you are a disgruntled chiropractor or former newspaper editor???

  5. Albus says:

Yeah, robwatrp, I dropped the word “much” out of the line in the heat of battle. In case you can’t figure it out, it should read, “I pretty much call it as I see it.” Like the ADJ, I don’t have a copyeditor to review my stuff before I send it out.

Speaking of being off-topic, you might take a look at your own material. After accusing me of being negative, you say:

“You can get throught Dairy Queens line in 10 seconds because it will cost you 9 dollars for 12 oz. of ice cream with a few smased cookies in it.

I ate lunch at 11:45am the other day with my wife and it took a little time to get the food, but we were patient, and assumed it would take a while.”

You slam DQ with a negative (and false) accusation, misspelling two words on the way, then said you ate lunch there (by dint of mentioning DQ then going on immediately to the “lunch” bit) and thought the delay was all right.

    Talk about “WOW”….

I am neither a disgruntled chiropractor nor a former newspaper editor, though it’s beginning to look like Antigo will soon have both in good supply.

Back on topic, I’m not a fast-food fan. Take a look at the alleged “nutritional” info posted for fast-food menus, think for a moment about the honestly healthy food you could buy for the same money and prepare for yourself, and you’ll get some idea of why, on this topic at least, I maintain a negative view.

  6. wow says:

I so agree with robwatrp. Albus needs to get A LIFE!!!! If you don’t like it then quit talking about it. Shut up and keep it to yourself! No one wants to hear it!

  7. Albus says:

No one wants to hear it? Really? No one? No one at all? Or, just those who would rather not have to deal with reality? If I quit talking about what I dislike, will that make all the bad stuff go away? Or would that just make it acceptable, normal, and “business as usual”?

  8. alexis says:

I’d like to make a few comments and will just continue to ignore Albus and his rants about everything and anything.

Anywho, I have been to Taco Bell/KFC several times during their opening week and I must say that the people who are complaining about the wait and the slow service are part of the problem.

First of all, I went on the first two days they were open. Of course they were busy. Of course I had to wait. DUH!!!

The second day was really my point of irritation. And let me add that the staff had nothing to do with it. They were all very pleasant and doing the best they could under the circumstances. Kudos to them all.

When I entered the store(both times I dined in), I was greeted by the man in front of me when he turned around and muttered “F**k this. I don’t have time for this”. Umm, hello? The parking lot is so full that they are parked on the side street and the drive thru was backed up to DQ and you thought you were just gonna walk in and get immediate service?

While waiting my turn to order, I notice how people place their order and then take a half step to the side and stand there and wait. Your order time isn’t determined by how close you stand to the counter. Back up! Let people get through! The line moves faster when your not holding it up!

I proceeded to a table to wait for my order when I notice a couple that was behind me sit down at a table next to me. She was at the table and he was standing waiting for their order. The manager came up and stated that they had run out of the “extra crispy” chicken she had ordered and they would replace it with any other kind of chicken or they could wait an additional 15min. She then went on some kind of a rant, never getting up from the table, mind you. “The only reason I came here was for the extra crispy so it doesn’t matter what you give me now, it’s not extra crispy…there’s no point. My lunch is ruined. That’s the only reason I came here and if you don’t have it, it doesn’t even matter. I’m never coming here again.” Then she spent the next 15 min carrying on about how it’s not “extra crispy”.

OK, get a grip. It’s chicken for Christ’s sake. Your world is not going to end due to the breading on your chicken. (Well, maybe it will since it’s unhealthy to eat the skin and all that breading!) Obviously, you have never owned, managed or worked in a new business, let alone a restaurant. Shortages happen. There are no numbers or sales records to base ordering and prep work on. The entire operation is working on a guesstimate. So they guessed wrong. Get over it. Oh, and yeah, it’s their second day open. If you are so worried about getting your damn extra crispy wait a few days.

Now I will move on to the soda machine. Get your soda and move on. Do not use this area as a stopping point to mingle and converse. Do not let your 5yr old stand and sample all possible options(I believe there are 16) before allowing him to fill, cover and insert straw into his own cup. Do not give the child in your arms a sip before deciding that’s what you will fill your own cup with.

Some of us don’t care that you didn’t get your “extra crispy” and don’t want to spend their lunch break listening to you bitch. Some of us don’t want to wait in line while your kid decides to show some independence. There is a time and place for that. Opening days in a crowded restaurant is not it. Some of us have jobs to get back to and just want something to eat and some time away form the office.

Use your head. Show some respect to your fellow diners and their time constraints as well. And above all if you are going to complain, make sure you are not part of the problem.

And NO I am not employed by or associated with Taco Bell/KFC in any way!!!!

  9. alexis says:

    Albus, I couldn’t resist.

Of course you can get through the drive thru at DQ in 10 seconds. That is because there is nobody in it. And that 10 seconds doesn’t men much if you spend five minutes waiting at the window now does it?

To compare TB/KFC to DQ is asinine.

They are new. The employees are new and they have no basis to estimate their sales on. I’m sure that when TB/KFC has been around for as long as DQ has been, the wait for the drive thru will go down too.

  10. Albus says:

Alexis, it was not my intent to “compare” KFC and DQ. Perhaps, had I added a smiley to my initial post, someone out there would have caught on to the fact that I was making a point with situational humor, a la “Seinfeld”. I did not “rant” about anything!

It’s a mystery to why folks around here can’t tolerate the expression of a view contrary to the one they fervently believe. It’s OKAY to disagree, folks! That’s what actually causes discussion. If everyone had the same view on everything, there would not be anything to discuss!

  11. wow says:

I love KFC/Taco Bell but am getting sick of the 15-20 minute wait in drive thru after they have been open a month….everytime…and the worst part is when we only have one or two cars ahead of us

  12. Albus says:

And reason KFC went broke in the same town at the same location before is… um… Let’s see now… I’ll think of it in a moment…. um…. Maybe someone else remembers….

  13. lives here says:

we have been there a few times already and have never had a long wait, even with a long line, maybe your ordering too much food or being difficult, dont like it go somewhere else. have patience they are still learning and things happen. just like at any other establishment.

  14. getting out of doge, lol says:

I was looking up the phone number for KFC/Taco Bell when I stumbled across this forum, lol. You can really tell everyone in this town has nothing to do.

And lookin at the spelin on here ya all must have gone to school here, lol. Funny!

  15. Albus says:

“Lookin” at your message, I would think that our “spelin” here would be quite familiar to “ya all” in “doge”, ROTFLMAO.

  16. Sherry says:

Albus, there were embezzling issues by the former KFC owners…now do you remember?

  17. Albus says:

Kind of brings Wall Street down to the hometown level, doesn’t it?

  18. ddddd says:

HA HA HA! I like you Albus! You never fail to make me laugh!

  19. haha2010 says:

omg! do you even know what you’re talking about albus? get a fricken hobby that doesn’t involve the internet! I do agree that it is slow to get your food, but do you really know what happened with the old kfc? probably not!!

  20. me says:

Sherry needs to watch what you are saying and stop making accusations. The former owners are good friends of mine and were not embezzling but in fact they were brought down over the fact that rhinelander and minoqua were non profitable ( which they owned all three) and the kfc franchise themselves wanted them to expand into combo restaurants in which they couldn’t afford, and since they wouldn’t expand kfc raisde food cost to their stores ultimately leading them to bankrupcy. Find your facts before you believe the rumors that fly around this town so you don’t look like as big of a jack a$$ as everyone else who does the same.

  21. Albus says:

haha2010, no, in fact I do not know what happened with the old KFC. That’s why I asked. That’s what people do when they want information. I suspected that declining sales had something to do with the demise of the business, since that’s often the case. It surprised me that a business that could not survive in a particular location would re-open in that same location, so I thought I would ask how that came about. Of course, I could check the Antigo Daily Journal for some information, but for some reason or another I lack confidence in ADJ’s accuracy and veracity.

  22. not happy says:

I am not happy with the service, I don’t mind waiting in drive-thru, they have such good food that it’s worth it. But when I get the wrong food or pay for food I haven’t ordered and then when I bring it in to get fixed (politely), I don’t like being told that, “Maybe you should eat somewhere else.” I didn’t even ask for a refund, just for the food that I had paid for…. I guess customer service doesn’t mean much these days…. :(

  23. not happy says:

oh, yeah, and I looooved the old KFC, even if the building was in dire need of repairs, the workers were always friendly and actually CARED about their customers…. Do you think there’s any chance we could get the old owner’s back? Just some wishful thinking on my part…. :)

  24. simplemind says:

I went there for the first time yesterday. Wait was long probably 10 minutes. They WERE busy.. Food was so and so.. Chicken was OK.. Mashed Potatoes tasted like melted Styrofoam. Cole Slaw had a moldy taste or tasted spoiled.. My order was screwed up. I got a 3rd meal free.. a bun was missing in one meal.. and a piece of chicken missing in another.. Had I not got a 3rd meal free, I’d be complaining.. A missing piece of chicken is a big deal.. especially if your charged $2.00 for one piece.. If I am going to spend $6.99 or more on a meal.. I’ll pass KFC and go to the new Mexican place.. I ate there three times since they opened.. Never had a bad meal yet.

  25. Albus says:

Here’s something interesting, from the KFC “Nutrition Guide” at http://www.kfc.com/nutrition/pdf/kfc_nutrition.pdf

Chicken Breast – without skin or breading – 150 calories (25 from fat)
Grilled Chicken Breast – 190 calories (50 from fat)
Extra Crispy Chicken Breast – 510 calories (290 from far)

So, if you’re trying to pack on a few more pounds, go with the triple-calorie Extra Crispie Breast with almost 12 times the fat of the breast itself. Or maybe the Popcorn Chick Value box, at 660 calories (340 from fat). But if you want to LOSE weight, just get the order with the missing chicken piece, like Simplemind got.

  26. simplemind says:

Another sucky place.. Taco Johns!!! I went there while my oil was getting changed at Fleet Farm.. Ordered a Taco Salad, Potato Ole’s, and a drink.. Cost was over $8.00.. The salad was terrible. A couple tablespoons of meat, 2 pounds of sour cream, a pound of Salsa and maybe a half cup of lettuce.. I was heading to Madison after the oil change. I was thinking “Damn, I could of had the buffet at Golden Coral in Plover for $7.99.”

  27. Albus says:

Skip the Golden Coral, Simplemind, and proceed directly to Christian’s Bistro. You may not get an $8.00 lunch, but you WILL get delicious food.

  28. My Gosh says:

Well I went to Taco Bell/KFC and got 2 crunch wraps oh my god they were not like they were suppose to be they were aweful it wasn’t wrapped rite and there was hardly anything in it.. All I have to say is when I go to Merrill and go there they make them so good and put on what you want on them.. They need to hire ppl. that know how to make food and do it right.. if your not going to do it the right way get the heck out of there and let ppl. in that can.. I will never go there again and my kids say the same it is aweful food.. Gosh you pay for your food you should get what you are suppose to not a pile of crap… Make the food right I could of made them at home alot better than they do… Get your ppl. to do what they are suppose to before you lose another building here.. or lose alot of ppl. cause they won’t want to come cause of the food and the service……………

  29. wuzntmee says:

If people don’t tell KFC/TB when they make a mistake how do you expect them to fix the problem.

  30. Simplemind says:

In my opinion, most of the people working there are trash. Where did they hire some of the women who work there? A toothless convention? There is really no excuse for women in 20′s and 30′s to have no teeth.. Yes.. I know some of them from high school it is not anything medically related.. Its from Meth.

  31. Sherry says:

To: Me Says, I know the owners too and know exactly what happened with the old KFC, got my facts straight from the horse’s mouths on this one. And Not Happy, you don’t want the old owners back, believe me!

  32. me says:

And who exactly would the horse be then sherry? I would like to know? And who exactly was embezzling, I’m curious?

  33. Concerned says:

I wonder why we continue to support national commercial chains that use low grades of food and then wonder why our local economy is suffering. What about the local restaurants that dont pay franchise fees to some CEO on the top? There are so many health concerns in regards to eating fast food. Our local businesses are constantly fighting to survive. I guess I just dont understand how another fast food chain in our community is a bonus. Are more people going out to eat or are less going to the businesses that have been already been here? Should we bring a starbucks, and a rocky rococo, and a wendys, oh and how about another subway?

  34. Simplemind says:

I ate at Two Angels a few weeks ago. .. Had the all you can eat Spaghetti and Hamburger. It was about the quality of canned Spaghetti you buy at the store. The Hamburger was a low grade processed piece of shoe leather.

I could have bought 7 cans of Spaghetti from the store and made them myself for 1/4th of the cost. It was all you can eat.. But you had to force yourself to eat more than one plate.

The prices at Two Angels have went up and the food seems to be lower grade.
All these places that advertised “Home Cooking” but yet buy most of the items on the menu are premade from Sysco. Only thing they do is reheat it. Glorified TV dinners. So far the new Mexican place has never let me down..

  35. Simplemind says:

oops.. Sorry about the typos.. What I mean is All these places advertise “Home Cooking” but yet most of the items on the menu are premade from Sysco. All the cooks do is reheat it. Glorified TV dinners that you pay $9.00 for. So far the Mexican place has never let me down.

  36. KB9TKB says:

I see a few people complaining about the wait in line. Remember this is also a chicken place, fresh made chicken takes awhile to fry. When I used to work at Country Kitchen I remember it would take about 14 minutes in the broaster for the chicken to get done. If your in a real hurry order something that dosn’t take as long. If they happen to have extra made up ahead of time then your good to go. Glad to see KFC back.

  37. tbemployee says:

I happen to worka t taco bell/kfc and yea mistakes have been made and the wait time can be irritating but lets try to remember ppl when we first opened we were training an entirely new staff besides the few ppl who were managers at other places. be patient were trying to keep everyone happy!

  38. Booger says:

I have been to the kfc taco bell in antigo 4 times and they have screwed up my order twice, both times when I ordered kfc meals. I’m never ordering kfc again from that location unless I am simply ordering a bucket of chicken, maybe they can get that right. I have done ok with taco bell in the drive thru though I will admit it seems to take and extraordinary amount of time to dish up a couple tacos, I will say this for them, their wait time in line is no longer than it is in the Rhinelander or Merril taco bell, they are all quite slow for what you are ordering.

  39. ????? says:

I agree with some of this! I recently have had few bad run ins. Even when I try and switch up my order to see if its better. the last few times I have been there, my food wasn’t all the way done, some of it still being frozen(the cheesy fiesta potatos) is what I am referring to as being frozen! I am so disappointed, I waited for so long for taco bell to come back and now I can’t get a good experience there.

  40. sumdumguy says:

I waited in line for 30 min. there were 2 cars in front of me! i could see people in the place talking and playing grabass while i waited, i will not go there again.

  41. wow says:

the sad part is for me…when i wait inside for 6 tacos and still wait 20 minutes….you tell us to be patient…your training…you have been opened 3 months are you still traiing?

  42. movingforward says:

It is pretty sad when we can get better tasting chicken from both our grocery store delis than from a chicken place at 1/4th of the price.

  43. Gussy says:

Nothing says bad food better than the personal hygiene of the people working behind the counter. If you are going to work in a place that serves food: Brush what teeth you have left. It’s sad seeing so many young people that have decided that their teeth weren’t worth taking care of.

  44. McKay says:

If you want good chicken, go to Copps Deli & if you want good Mexican Food go to Taco Johns!

  45. Sherry says:

Butch’s has some great deli chicken also, I think it’s the best!

  46. Quiet bystander says:

Butch’s has the best rotisserie chicken (Walmart’s is often over done and dry), as for Mexican go to El Tequila. What Taco Hell and Taco Johns serve is NOT Mexican food. It’s Mexican-inspired American food. Real Mexican food is not served through a small window to a waiting car supposedly prepared in under a minute (which none of the “fast” food restaurants here seem to be capable of…McD’s comes close, and it’s not even real meat). Here’s a unique idea, cook real food in a real kitchen, at least you know what’s in it. Or is there no one here that knows how to cook any more.

  47. Quiet bystander says:

Also, the service at KFC/Taco Bell (food and speed) is the same as when it was KFC previously. Why would anyone expect it to change. The fact that three months have passed and it hasn’t improved, should tell you it’s not going to.

  48. simplemind says:

I disagree. Taco Bell and Taco Johns is not REAL Mexican food. Not even close.. Potato Ole’ is a glorified Tator Tot with tons of Seasoning Salt spilled on it.. The food item developed in the United States and trademarked by Taco Johns. Go to Mexico and ask for Potato Ole’, They won’t know what you are talking about..

A traditional Mexican burrito comes on a plate covered with chili sauce, topped with cheese, lettuce, avocado sauce, and a touch of sour cream. You normally eat it with a fork.

A Taco John’s Burrito is white rice (Not traditional Mexican Rice), 3/4th cup of refried beans, and a half cup of sour cream.

  49. Simplemind says:

Being NEW to the area or an entire set of new employees does not justify Mistakes.

If a new factory or industry comes to the area. What if a couple of people make some mistakes, and lose a leg, an arm, or a few fingers? Is it justified to say “Its a new company, everyone working there is new.”
    Being new is no excuse.

If McDonalds, Culvers, and Burger King are processing and cooking orders correct, people will go there. There’s nothing more annoying than driving a half hour home to find a good part of your order is missing. Am I going to waste $7.00 in gas to drive back and get it corrected?

  50. Booger says:

order a burrito at El Tequila and it is meat wrapped in a shell with some red crap drizzled over it. I’m not impressed with that place or “authenic mexican” food if thats what it is supposed to be, bland crap is what it is. I’ll stick with Taco Bell or Taco John’s. At least use cheese, lettuce, sour cream, and any of the other normal taco stuff.
