Noel’s point is that TV seems more of a drag on life than an enrichment. She asks, “What about temporarily or permanently cutting out all TV viewing?” It’s a good question, and one I answered about 12 years ago by selling all five of the household TVs and not buying any replacements. That’s right — I’ve been without a TV since before the turn of the century. Like Sara Noel, I don’t miss it one tiniest bit.

I’m thinking of disconnecting cable myself. I have no idea why I pay for it.. If I want to watch a Sitcom or anything else.. Most of the shows are on the Internet anyway.. About half of them are commercial free.. If you have a TV with HDMI input, and a computer with HDMI output.. You can use the TV as a computer monitor. I have Netflix for movies with 20,000 o watch over the Internet and an additional 20,000 you can get in the mail for something like $9.50 a month.. I am beginning to think TV is obsolete. I guess I am becoming a tightwad. Whoever thought 30 years ago people would be willing to pay $60.00 a month for basic cable? Considering most programming after 1 AM is paid programming.. about 1/4th is commercials during the day.. I am very close to pulling the plug myself..
Average viewing time for TV users is about 5 hours a day. Wow.Think what you could do with an extra 5 hours a day!
I’d say each one of us in our household watches TV on average 5 hours a week.. If that.. Half of the time its a movie from Netflix.. My cable could be out for days before I realize its out.
