Drunk driving is a major problem in Langlade County and many other areas as well. People should be responsible when they go out and have a designated driver if they think they might have a few too many. This is nice in theory but it often doesn’t work out that way.
The Tavern League has a safe ride home program…which the tavern league contributes to and also receives donations for. My daughter was a bartender several years ago and constantly complained that the Safe Ride Home people rarely answered the phone when she would call them for one of her customers. I thought maybe the situation has improved over the years but it doesn’t look like it.
Last week I heard a customer at a local Antigo bar request a safe ride home from this program. The bartender laughed and replied “Good luck with that…they never answer the phone.” Sure enough…he called and there was no answer.
I did some research on line and it seems that the safe ride home program is successful in Wausau and Rhinelander but it looks like it is almost non-existent in Langlade County.
Does anyone have any input on this program or ideas how to improve it?
(BTW I don’t think people should abuse this program and use it as a taxi service.)

I am all for rehabilitation but I know William is one who can’t be rehabilitated. As far as the facts Shell, look on C-Cap, how much more clearer do you need it, maybe bigger letters will do if your eyes are swollen shut from being hit too many times, like the ADJ said. For a Fact of the matter is William is not a Women Beater!!! If you are refuring to the domestic disorderly on his record you would READ that had nothing to do with a Women or myself. That was a dispute between William and his brother from Chicago. Wow, you cannot make up charges that are not there. Do some research, don’t just jump to your own conclusions!!!
As rumor has it maybe you were blacked out at the time because I remember numerous times when you were beating on you ex-wife and threatened myself. Yup I am from your past and I remember what you have done and said. So Shell I do know first hand what evil he is and once an abuser always as far as I’m concerned. I dont care if you think you are rehabilitated, there is always something that will trigger a temper tantrum, like folks talking the truth.

Hello. My name is Ann and Bill is my ex-husband. I have had multitudes of people contacting me regarding his recent endeavors and of course, this thread. I have decided to come here and state my piece and hopefully that will be that.
I could spend forever on here picking apart posts and adding my two cents, but I am not here to trade barbs or provide a play-by-play commentary. I can’t bring myself to care enough to bother with it.
That being said…am I buying what he’s selling? Absolutely not, but that’s my prerogative. I will not explain myself, especially here on a public forum.
An ex is an ex. We have obviously both moved on. I do not care where he is, what he does, or who he does it with, as long as it does not impact me and mine.
Furthermore, I have no desire to drag family and friends into this unnecessary drama.
By unnecessary, I mean the simple fact that they have yet to be granted a license from the city and even in the event that they do, they have to make their business work. That is no easy task.
The only thing I can say with certainty is before you pick apart someone else’s post for spelling, grammar or use of the English language, you better be sure you went back and verified that yours is textbook perfect. And, before you reply to the debate, please make sure your comments do not directly contradict your previous posts. It only undermines your arguement.

Why can’t people who hide behind a pseudoname have faith in their fellow human being and give William a chance to prove himself? The justice system says he is capable of being in society. Who are you to say he is not? If this guy is as bad as you say he is, then he will fail. But just for a second, think that what if he HAS turned his life around. What if he gives someone a safe ride home and that person gets home safely instead of driving drunk and possibly killing someone?
Go get ‘em Bill. And make sure I get that telephone number. I would prefer a safe ride home.

i am a new writer and should of spoke up sooner, but like 90% of the people in antigo(anti-go) i go with the flo and dont make waves. i use this false name because i sit right next to you in smittys, nick,bb jacks, three jokers little rock and reif’s.i have lived and work here my hole life, i have even bartended for most of those bars i mention. if you knew who i was you would fall of your chair. it’s somthing you sit in reif’s and hear people talking and not to long to follow it comes out on here the same exact way you heard it there. i go out three times a week darts and two pool teams (hey ELLIE). i am close to many of bar owners, i go drink with ronny, rita, vanessa, eric and nicki, and the rest of the crew (hey WHATS UP). i go to the tavern league meetings 4 to 8 times a year maybe more and i’ve done this for about 10 years. people in antigo know me (love my mount royal). people in antigo really hate each other. you can sit in these bars and if your me you would be amazed at what these bar owners say about you, and that is just after they hug you goodbye. i can only think do they do that to me to, because i am one of those they hug goodbye. we do need safe ride here,leave him alone. the ones that do get attacked should not and the ones that dont should. landon now has sold bad drugs atleast 4 times that we heard of, leases a bar to his brother’s girlfriend and has a drug (oops) pawn shop and he still in business. how is it he sells drugs that kill people and you cry about bill. i’ve sat next to rick now when hes drinking and if you act like your buddys with him he tells all. trying to offer girls money to sleep with them and then lie to his wife, yes you rick. i’ve gone into reflection and have had a drink or two, when shes not outside smoking. everthing about the nows is a joke, but with money anything can be brushed under the carpet. shammy is another one, beats his girlfriend smokes rock and we dont hear much about that. more drugs pass through nicks then the police dept, hey shammy. like everyone else i turn my head. schis love you and your place but you and marlena will lie to anyone to get your way or make money and people go along with it because you own smittys myself included. if you want to be safe when your in the bar partying from the police, go to not bobs, that were they hang out. i party there with rita and the crew, its always a snowing good time, but me i’ll stick to drinking. one bar i miss walking across to was night moves, darwen got a raw deal, i knew the truth and never stood up for him like many other people. he ran a good bar kept things in line and treated everyone with respect. he has nice kids and sheila is great person i’ve been to all his bars and even the old b n r. he work hard on that place and it was awesome. i also stood next to him and his family for 10 or 20 min while they cryed watching it burn, could’nt take no more and had to leave.we lost a good family,and i am sorry for not saying nothing. ronny boetcher and the rest of the tavern council uses the tavern league for there own gain not for the welfare of the people. schis is good for that and his darts, i see it sitting at the meeting almost every month. i heard some say (ronny) they wouldn’t use or support the save ride program. its sad to see what antigo has become but everone of us throw rocks in our glass houses and it’s not going to change because i see it every day it’s only worse. drugs are being sold in every bar, people are dieing, but lets pick on the people that are changing, and chase the good away. antigo(anti-go) will never change because the law makers, enforcers, people with money, most bar owners and we as a community promote and enforce the negative while ignoring and pushing aside the positive.
well i think you are call a double standard, Darwin sold drugs, and molested children, what makes him any better than the Now brothers or the owner of Shammy Shine, as far as Bill he is a wife beater, drug dealer and drunk driver, you can change for a while, but you will always go back to you old ways. Everyone will do what they have to in order to make their business successful, lies included. Your right we do need safe ride, but with someone who is a reliable person should be the way it goes. Leave it to the bar association to decide and offer these rides. Whats going to happen when Bill gives a drunk person home with out the safe ride voucher and they refuse to pay him or say they have no money? With his hot temper I wouldn’t be surprised if he got out an be the crap out of them.

Well, boy do we have a big debate going on here…I just thought I would respond to the “safe ride home program”, as a past bartender I know that I often called the program and paid them the $5.00 to take a patron that had consumed too much home, and I at times drove those same people home for free, because as we all know….Antigo rings up DUI’s like mosquito’s in the summertime suck blood!
The safe ride home program “works”, saves lives, saves people time and money, but those same poeple have to “know” and have to “realize” they have had too much to drink and they need to take advantage of the program offered, no money comes from their pocket, they just have to ask…and as we all know some poeple insist they are not “too drunk to drive”…

I know in the past, the tavern league members pushed for the safe ride opportunities within the community and were stalled by city council, on who could drive, what hours of operation and the cost to the program, as well as out of control insurance rates, etc.
Irregardless, I think if in fact Antigo and the city council, as well as the police department, would like to keep their citizens “safe”, the safe ride program should be of utmost importance. (Not the fines collected)
If the drivers of the program are convicted felons or not, what does that matter if they are trying to help better our community? YOU chose if you will use the program or not, no one choses for you…we can “suggest” but we can’t force you to get a ride.
This ANTIGOBUZZ should be about bettering the community, helping one another out, including the less fortunate. Not to belittle another, or slander another, if the facts aren’t TRUE its considered slander, and that is a punishable act. Please be careful my friends, aquaintances, and haters…
I think a safe ride home system would be a great idea for Antigo. I know it would really come in handy for those late nights out, so no one would have to worry. If there is a particular person who wants to take responsibility for doing this than so be it.
As for beyond beliefs comment. If you have that many issues with that many different establishments in Antigo then maybe you should stay home or stick to the bars you do like. Don’t go on here and bash individuals and lie about different businesses. I personally really enjoy going to Reflections and as for “the girlfriend,” she is a complete sweetheart and I have never been treated better at a bar. Logan Now and his parents are good people and you should not be on here talking trash about them and making up lies about them. I have an idea, why don’t you just not go into all these bars you just bashed. Sounds to me like your the hypocrite.
