Wonders Never Cease (by Albus)

Our very own “Stevie Wonder” Veselak, profligate plagiarist of the plains, actually gives a nod to the real source of his “article” in the January 2011 issue of The Antigo Daily Journal Family Primetime magazine insert. Or, does he? The disclaimer at the end of the Veselak “Spinal Column” on page 14 is:

“Dr. James P. Meschino, D.C. co-authored this article. He is a graduate of Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.”

Whoa! “Co-author”? Really? Veselak is a co-author with someone? Let’s check this out. We’ll spin the Albus Wheel of Truth to find the original article, and see what comes up. Spinning…. Here we go:

http://www.toyourhealth.com/mpacms/tyh/article.php?id=1316

Yup, that’s the source, all right. “To Your Health”, July 2010, vol. 04, issue 07. “Cancer Defense: The Power of Nutrition.”  Word-for-word for most of it, with a little Veselak chopping here and there to make the smaller ADJ version….

Whoopsie! A little problem here. The authorship of the article in “To Your Health” is listed as “By Dr. James Meschino”. No shared “co-author” listing for Veselak or anyone else is anywhere evident. It looks like Veselak simply claimed co-authorship on this end without actually doing any co-authoring for the original publishing end!

Hey, Stevie! In case you’re wondering, claiming non-existent co-authorship after the fact, like claiming non-existent total authorship, is still plagiarism! Wishful thinking and reliance on gullibility might work in the office, but won’t cut it out here in the fresh northern air. You ought to have at least your subscription to “To Your Health” revoked!

Note to ADJ editor Fred Berner: No, you can’t use the Albus Wheel of Truth. Why? Because, “You can’t handle the truth!”

This is so incredibly – funny? Stupid? Even after the plagiarism is pointed out, it continues? Has anyone sent a copy of the work to this Dr. Meschino? Although, after reading about Meschino, maybe he deserve it? He thinks that chiropractic is a cure-all – but if that doesn’t work, you can fix everything with his own personal line of “health products”?

All the loony people…where do they all come from….

  3. Albus says:

Yeah, I sent a copy of his unintended co-authorship to Meschino. No reply. It’s not surprising that a health-care “profession” that has no concept of science or evidence would also be lacking in understanding of the ethics of publication and accreditation.

Have you noticed recently, say, the last year or so, that the local chiro-mafia is remarkably silent on the supposed benefits of spinal manipulation — the only “technique” they are state-licensed to perform — and instead use their space in the ADJ to tout side-line skin care, dietary supplements, cancer-prevention, and the like? They apparently don’t like having their junk-science “research” exposed to the cold light of rational analysis, something that happens every time they toot their little party-horns about “vertebral subluxations” around here.

  4. Whitey Fisk says:

You now Albus, for someone who is consitantly judgmental about writing skills, plagerism, grammer and of course documentation to back up facts, it is a wonder that you consistently spout “facts” with nothing to back them up. and so often you are completely in the wrong. Specificlly when it comes to your hated “chiro-mafia”. If you did your reseach you would learn that chiropractor in wisconsin are liscened to preform spinal manipulation, physical therapy, nutritional counseling, and many more life benefiting pracitices that the medical profession and obviously you are to closed minded to accept and practice. I have seen your practice of tearing chiropractors down for the past two years and it makes me chuckle at your inability to back up your own opinions and so call facts. But is seems that no one else has the desire or need to waste there time correcting your shortcomming on a BLOG. So feel free to find my spelling errors and critique my grammer. There are more important things to worry about. and by the way I feel that it is pretty lame of above mentioned chiroprator to do what he did. Geez what did a chiropractor ever do to you steel your birthday or something?

  5. Albus says:

Whitey, I have read the Wisconsin chiro licensing statutues, followed the antics of the state chiro licensing board in their wrist-slapping “punishments” for miscreant chiros, and filed complaints with the state of Wisconsin regarding out-of-scope-of-practice advertising claims by chiropractors. I have also examined, in close detail, the “research” papers offered up for our amusement by the “Journal of Vertebral Subluxation” and other junk-science alternative medicine apologists. I am well-steeped in the lore and fantasy of “straight” vs. “mixer” chiros, and the real scientific world’s search for the mythical “subluxation”. If you wish to compare your cherished and unvalidated beliefs and conjectures with my store of scientific evidence, let’s have at it. Give me a fact that you think is “unsupported”, and I’ll give you my evidence, point by point. Ball’s in your court…..

    Albus, evolution or creation ?

  7. Albus says:

Ben, I’m a rationalist. I deal with evidence, not fantasy. Evolution, of course.

  8. obrien says:

There’s room for both. Evolution/creation, that is. ;-)

Chiro-mafia? lol For real? Whitey, what kind of evidence are you looking for? And why would you defend someone who can – and does – permanently damage the lives of others? I don’t get it.

  9. Ben Drinken says:

That is what I figured your response would be, and that is why I asked the question. I just wanted to confirm my suspicion. You appear to be a very scientific based guy.

We appear to be polar opposites on most subjects but that is O.K.
The great thing about this country is we all have the right to believe what we want, do what we want, say what we want and practice what we want, whenever we want.

Pushing each others buttons on this forum gives all of us food for thought. At the end of the day we are all together on one planet.

  10. Albus says:

Ben, if we all agreed about everything, there wouldn’t any discussions at all, would there? Discussion of points of disagreement is the basis for information exchange and, if properly conducted, personal growth. I don’t mind disagreement, at all. What I find objectionable is obdurate stupidity, the abject refusal to accept and incorporate new information simply because it conflicts with old (and likely wrong) information. that’s a no-brainer, in the sense that there is no brain in charge!

I am quite amenable to rational discussion. I have even actually changed my position on specific items when it became evident that I was wrong in view. It happened once in 1968, and again in 1987. And, it could happen again, some day!

Here’s an interesting comment, right from the horse’s mouth, so speak. From a Gress Chiropractic ad in the January 24 Antigo Daily Journal:

“Hi I’m Carter, I am 4 months old. I had a very tough birth that left the left side of my head flat. My Mommy had chiropractic care during her pregnancy….”

Well, just imagine that! Kid’s pretty verbal, for being just 4 months old, don’t you think? And to come right out like that and suggest that chiropractic care during pregnancy might not be such a good idea seems like a very courageous thing for a little 4-month old to do right in a chiropractor’s ad, don’t you agree?
