Shell’s Shuttle LLC is now a fully licensed and insured (yes, the city granted it without any objections, even after the background check) taxi company.
My words of wanting a safe-ride program seem to have either fallen on deaf ears, or the citizens are really uninterested. Our problem as it stands now, is the Tavern League chapter of Langlade County. They claim to not want to pay the bill for someone who has to travel (possibly) the length of the county. Simply not enough funds they tell me.
Please advise the citizens of Langlade County that the cab company is here, and can provide discounted rates to intoxicated drivers. We really do want to make Antigo and the surrounding area a better and safer place. We have not allowed the Tavern League (locally) to blockade us.
All a person has to do is dial #TAXI at any time, anywhere, and they will be immediately connected to the next available taxi. This is a service that is provided through MADD. In these cases, the patron is ultimately responsible for the cab fare, but after weighing the pro’s and con’s, it seems a small price to pay. This service is provided nationwide, and an individual need only the services of a cab to call. No intoxication necessary.
On the other hand, I have been on the phone with Pete Madelin of the Tavern League and he is going to see what we can do to get a Tavern League sponsored ride. In the meantime, we are anxious to serve Antigo, and I thank you again for your words of encouragement.
Sincerely,
William Moffat

Good luck Bill, Taxi service was def needed
Thank You. Hopefully we can all come together to make Antigo a better and safer place. We are currentlyworking with Langlade Memorial Hospital as well as other businesses around town, to try to supply the citizens of Antigo and the surrounding areas with alternative transportation.
Isn’t that what van services are for which is usually paid for by medical ins. So now you will be taking their customers from them too.
ya but the shuttle service doesnt run 24/7
No, we are not “stealing” business. We are trying to figure out a way to help the people who are stuck at the hospital find transportation. We cannot legally take liability for someone who is in need of medical care. The issue of transportation has become an problem for the hospital, and we are glad to help. Also, the van services are not insurable to drive across town if you’ve been in an accident. In fact, chances are they will not even come to get you. There is an insurance issue for them as well as us. There are technicalities to owning a business, that we have to be painfully aware of, and that is one of them. To be fair though, it was a good point.
There are plenty of people who need a ride from the hospital that don’t qualify for van services. I am a single person, who has on a couple occasions over the years needed a ride home after receiving medication that left me unable to drive. I fortunately was able to call my parents, but a taxi would have saved them a 20 minute trip (one way) to pick me up.
Best of luck!!
Thank you
Word on the street is that the Guy who wants to open the oldVillage Inn on45 wants to open a cab service too. Maybe Bieri will do the driving?
BYW. Good Luck Bill.
Thank You!!!
For those that are interested, I will be appearing on morning show that is aired from Arby’s every morning on WATK. If you would like more information about our company, please tune in betwen 7:30am and 8:30am on Wednesday March 30, 2011. Thank You.
Bill,
I wish much success to you! My girlfriend used to live in Antigo and she always had trouble getting a taxi. Our Taxi service has been providing transportation in Northern Wisconsin (Minocqua Area) over the last 10 years and it has it’s ups and downs. Don’t worry about the Tavern League. We have had problems with our Safe Ride program here too. Let me tell you that it is less then 15% of our business and to be honest… it wasn’t always fun. There are plenty of other people in the area who will need your services. Focus on them and the rest will come in time. If you would like to ever chitchat or need some advice feel free to drop me a line. I will be sure to keep your number handy if ever we get a call in or around Antigo, and yes it has happened before and bound to happen again! Cheers.
Best Regards,

Thank You Matthew. I am beginning to understand a little clearer what you were saying! I think that with enough patience we will be ok. Thanks for the encouragement. If you are serious, a cup of coffee sometime to compare notes sounds great. Thanks again. By the way, the radio show went pretty well.

Nice Press Release Bill…. I say this very sarcastically. The Tavern League does have a safe ride program and it is all privately funded. They also offer FREE rides to anyone that is intoxicated. Your Press Release is manipulative, self-promoting, and down right false. Having a taxi in Antigo is a fantastic idea but it makes me question what kind of person you are by falsifying the truth and trying to tear down an Association that originally thought of the idea, continues to VOLUNTEER their time to fund raise so that people may have a safe and free way home. There was absolutely no need to try and bad mouth an organization that is doing their best to protect our community. So far, you only seem like a dirty politician…. less the smarts. Why don’t you try to promote yourself without taking low low low blows to people that are actually trying to help. Have some integrity, Bill.
@Sarah, I totally agree with you on that, however, what his press release made him seem like a manipulative, self-promoting, dirty politician, he actually is that person.
Why is he a “manipulative, self-promoting, dirty politician”? If you have a business, you promote it. Yes, we have a safe ride program. I have used it a few times. I have walked other times because I couldn’t get a ride. The guy is trying to better himself. People change. Give him a break and let him succeed or fail on his own. Don’t try to bring him down. Even for someone you don’t like, wouldn’t it make sense to want him to succeed if he is bettering the community?
Tearing down an organization? Sarah, the Tavern League of Wisconsin is the most powerful lobbyist organization n Madison. Do the research, they spend more money in Madison than anyone else in the state. Secondly, the Safe-Ride home program is funded through OWI funds from the STATE. You must be speaking of the Good Samaritan program. I never tried to tear down the TLoW.
Read this again:”Our problem as it stands now, is the Tavern League chapter of Langlade County. They claim to not want to pay the bill for someone who has to travel (possibly) the length of the county. Simply not enough funds they tell me.” Those are my words. You will notice they read OUR problem, not the TLow’s. How am I tearing down the organization? Just so you know, the more you hate the better I do. If you have genuine concerns, or really have an issue that you need to solve, do it. Trying to tear me down here only makes you look bad. I am doing something for the City of Antigo. I am providing a service, that nobody else has been willing to provide thus far. Why can’t you people just leave me alone. If I am these things you say I am, ““manipulative, self-promoting, dirty politician” than I guess I fit right in here. You know the saying, “If you can’t beat ‘em join ‘em. Your just pissed you will always be you and no means for change. This will be my last post on this because it is obvious that it is a place for haters to breed their insolence and hate. While you complain about the state of affairs in this town, I am trying to improve them. Hate away….
P.S. Thanks to those with some kind of faith in their fellow man changing and trying to do something better for his community. You guys are the ones that make this work. The rest of you? Well, figure it out on your own.
One more thing….we are trying to work out something for Langlade County and the country bars who need a reliable safe-ride program. Before you tear me up on the word reliable, please be advised that I am trying to work a feasible program out for them so that I can SERVE the Tavern League. Remember, I am an alcoholic, so why would I try to tear down the people who I supported for so many years? C’mon people think with that lump between your ears and not the one you sit on.
Are you the William moffat that has 5 plus DUI’s? If so how are we safe to ride with you?
To Confused:
Have you ever heard of a recovering alcoholic? Same as a recovering addict. I am a coke addict. But, I haven’t touched it in years. Would you trust me? You probably already do. If we knew who you were, we could tell better. Personally, I would rather get a ride from a recovering alcoholic than a drunk guy.
Here is the deal folks..I merely run the company. No rides with me, in fact you probably will never see me. Yes, I have 7 OWI’s, and yes I have changed my life. Has my life been perfect? Absolutely not, and with that being said, by opening this business, I am trying to accomplish more than one goal. Since you feel the need to make them your business, here they are.
1. I want more for my kids than what I have given before. This business is the perfect opportunity to build something to give to them. So, remember as you try tear my business apart with hateful words and malice, consider them.
2. If my business were to go under tomorrow, on account of the nasty things being posted, what would the people who already count on us for their doctors appointments do? The Goal: provide safe, and efficient transportation to those who need it. Drunk or not. For the record 937 licensed drivers in Langlade County, receive an OWI.
3. This is the part that is absolutely none of your business, but I am going to share anyhow. It will give you ammunition to hate something else. A major stepping stone in my recovery is to try to repay the society I have offended, by providing a much needed service. If I can make a living for myself and my family in the process, how does that figure to be wrong?
Lastly, I have had you people hate me to my children’s teachers at school, you have prank called my house, and you have boldly attempted to insult me on this blog. You are really proud of yourselves aren’t you? Because I may (or may not, depends on who you are apparently) have been a disreputable person in the past, that means that you need to go to my children’s school and tell them what a horrible person YOU think I am? Why do they deserve any less in life than anyone else. You people are bigoted fools, and the source of discord in your lives can be found within yourselves. Here’s a thought…try praying instead of hating. Imagine how much better a world this would be if people spent only half of the energy they spend hating, on forgiving, and letting people live their lives. You do not need like me or my business, that’s your prerogative.
I cannot understand why, for the life of me, if what I am doing has no bearing on you or your life, why it would make sense to attempt to destroy what we have worked so hard as a family to build. I haven’t opened a bar, or some brothel in a respected downtown monument. I am truly trying to make this a better place for everyone, and we have touched people’s lives in a positive way already. All I ask now is to be left alone to either succeed or fail on my own. Why do you insist on making it your business to make everyone’s life harder by bad mouthing me? I am not perfect, never been perfect, and the future isn’t looking good for it either. You have read posts from lots of people, and the most insistent tone ( and one that I happen to agree with) is that this town needs an alternative transportation system. Wouldn’t you rather have me doing something constructive and worthwhile than burning up the highways and byways while drunk? The reality of this whole thing is this: I am not leaving. Deal with it any way you can, but deal with it fast. Hating me is no way for anyone to live their life. As you already know, I am not worth the energy. So the million dollar question thus becomes…..WHY DO IT?
Good for you Bill and best of luck to you, your family and your business. We are not all the haters you speak of. I for one, am very impressed with your words and your courage. Hold your head up and grab the success that awaits you! You deserve it.
To the Citizens of Antigo:
Please be aware that Shell’s Shuttle offers half off of the return cab fare to their vehicles the next day to anyone that utilizes the Tavern League’s Safe-Ride program. We are dedicated to making this work, and that is one small incentive that we can provide to help make this program a success. Thanks to all of you that have utilized Shell’s Shuttle, and we hope your experience was pleasant.

Here is an interesting link for those who doubt the safe-ride program. On Memorial Day weekend, they WILL be putting the squeeze on. Check it out.

Hello Antigo and it’s fine people,
I am the Driver/Owner of Shell’s Shuttle LLC. I wanted to come on here and let you try to get and idea of who and what I am about. I know a lot of people in this town know my partner William Moffat, but not me. I grew up in White Lake right down the road from Antigo. When I turned 18 I moved to Wausau. I have worked for some big companies like Eastbay/Footlocker.com & WPS Health Insurance. With working at WPS I worked government contracts so I have Government Security Clearance until 2016. I was investigated by the FBI to receive this Job. (so everyone is clear any person hired by WPS gets investigated) I have dedicated years of my life to this company and found I truly was not happy. Then I drove a taxi for a company in Wausau and loved it. I mainly worked out of the Mosinee Airport then would go back to Wausau to work the Safe Ride Home program. I believe the Safe Ride Home program is a wonderful program and I fully support it. I for one wish that they had this program when I was drinking heavily. I have been sober for a year now and commit myself & company to help people drink responsibly. With all this being said I will tell you a little bit more personal about me. I am a mother of three beautiful children. My son is 5 and I have identical twin girls that are 4. My parents and sister still live in White Lake and are very respectable people of the community. I love Wisconsin and Langlade County is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I am only trying to do my part to help keep the people safe. Where is there wrong in that. Antigo let’s work together to make our road ways safe for everyone. I put my life on the line every night to try to make a difference. Thank you for your time to read this and I look forward to meeting you in person.
Just so the world knows we are battling OWI, we provided 10 safe-ride homes 2nite. Congratulations Antigo for movin forward! Look for our other cab soon! We can also provide shuttle service for your wedding parties as well. Call for details
Heard they came and repo’d the taxi van. True??
