Now my biggest problem with the Doctors here in Antigo have been the fact that they are known now for not prescribing pain Medications to anybody and when I say this, I mean to me, they are creating street Drug users, I have watched a guy go into the emergency room with his knee cap shattered in 5 places and it 180 degrees shifted, was a ugly site, guy was in pain ALOT OF PAIN. He was given 8 5/500 Hydrocodone Pain medication.
Next seen a guy also at Antigo with his MRI of his neck c5,c6,c7,c8 smashed. The guy needs immediate surgery they have been telling him and he was complaining about how much pain he was in and once again 20 5/500 Hydrocodone he was given, so I can go on and on but what I’m really getting at is the doctors here not giving the pain relief people with legitimate pain no relief.
So I have come to the conclusion, that they are working with the sheriffs Dept. here to produce more street drug users. Call me crazy say what you want, but if they don’t give someone enough or any at all, what is that person to do, get them from the streets, so bottom line is I believe they are creating a huge drug problem here cause they want to, like I said, call me crazy but my personal experience is I went into Emergency room with back pain so unbearable I could not even sleep for days so I went in and seen Emergency Room Doctor after sitting in room for 4 hrs and seeing him for a total of 5 minutes why he did absolutely nothing, The Doctor came back and said you need a MRI and till then I don’t know what to do (REALLY) ok. Sent me home with Naproxen a Anti-inflamatory, did absolutely nothing for my ridiculous pain, so got a MRI a week later and guess what 3 herniated disks and need surgery. Now for those couple weeks, I was in so much pain I couldn’t stand it anymore, now if I happen to run into someone who would be selling pain medication you damn right I would have bought it, so now, if that would have happened, I have just become a street user quote unquote, so I am terrible at putting on paper what I want to say, so I did my best to explain my thoughts, OH one last thing I get while I’m waiting for surgery 20 Hydrocodone a week till surgery 1 every 8 hrs (REALLY) 1st they only last up 3 to 4 hrs max so how can they prescribe it like that knowing it wont work for 8 Hrs. 2nd no way in hell that is taking any of my pain away, 3rd how can they leave me this miserable for the last month. Im scared to have surgery because my pain for a couple days will be so intense and I really am scared of the pain, I cant take anymore pain than it already is, where do you go from here, what do you do, I feel helpless in this situation and I am terrible upset with Aspirus General Clinic and don’t even try and fill your prescriptions at Lakeside they think there Doctors not Pharmacists.
So I guess I need answers, I’m stuck with state insurance, going somewhere else doesn’t work, I have asked over 20 people with the same results. So are they creating more street users than they are helping the Drug problem in this town ??????????

Lisa, that does sound inappropriate to me also, i never recieved that. But rest assured you or your insurance company (or me and my insurance co.) will have to pay that back somehow. The medical industries have a way to hide little charges like that into your bill, they sure don’t just give away money. I hope your husband is doing better.
Thanks Rosie, he is slowly on the mend but it’s been a longer and harder road to recovery because of the mis-diagnosis’…maybe he would be completely recuperated today and back on the lake fishing if he’d have had appropriater care from Langlade Hospital.
In a letter dated August 9 from Nadine Grusnick, Patient/Customer Relations Coordinator for Langlade Hospital, it was stated that “We are sorry for the breakdown in communication and customer service that occurred during your July 12 emergency department visit. As a gesture to providing quality care and customer satisfaction, plus in the interest of community spirit, administration has decided not to charge you for the July 12 emergency department visit.”
There is no mention of the poor customer service received on July 1, despite Jeff voicing his concerns with Grusnick over the telephone concerning BOTH emergency department visits.
Not only do we now owe money for an unsatisfactory visit to the Antigo facility, we also owe additional medical bills to Ministry Health Group/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander for the care that we were not able to receive here in our hometown.
By sharing this experience with your readers, we want this community to be aware of the poor medical care offered at this county’s only hospital and the lack of quality compassion given to critically-ill patients at Langlade Hospital.

If you dont like your life…..change it. If you dont like where you live …get out of our town. Simple as that.
Not directed at Lisa, at the other comments regarding pain medication and “street drugs”
Reading this article made me want to puke.
Just because you can’t fool a doctor into giving you drugs doesn’t mean you have to waste other peoples time by posting it on here.
Im sure cops want more street drug users, that way they can have stuff to do right?
In other news Antigo doctors and the police department have teamed up, I heard the cops are going to start shooting everyone that seems up to no good so the hospital can get more patients.
I agree stop wasting our time. How do you feel about drug screens and then getting turned into the police….go a head make our day you fool! DR is right just because you can not fool the Dr.’s you feel the need to post this junk!
To Dr and Medical pro, Not all patients want pills, I know for a fact that if you don’t accept pills from the doctor, he or she really don’t want to help you. Perhaps if doctors used more safe and alternative medicine instead of pushing pills from drug companys we all would be better off. I understand and have first hand knowledge the doctors get kickbacks from drug companys for pushing their pills. ie. trips, vacations and even cash. The doctors i feel are the legal version of drug pushers in this country. The medical field is a billion dollar BUSINESS for a reason.
Rosie,
What exactly does that have to do with my comment? And I’m very aware of the fact that doctors get kickbacks.. What is your point? The post above talks about doctors NOT giving pills to people, whoever made the orginal post said that doctors aren’t giving pills so that more people have to self medicate, therefore the cops have more people to bust with illegal drugs..
Your comment has nothing to do with my comment and you are also disagreeing with the original post by trying to disagree with me.
The fact that doctors get kickbacks makes it even more unlikely that Antigo doctors will decline giving pills to people who come in.
Talking about lakeside pharmacy,
he’s right.
I had spots on my lungs and coughing all night.
went to clinic, doctor gave me cough medicine,
filled the prescription at Lakeside because it was close to clinic first thing pharmacists says is “you can’t get this refilled you know.”
for his info, I still have some of the medicine left after 8 months or so.
I stopped coughing and didn’t need it all.
He probably though I was a druggie, I though he was very rude.
I will never go to that pharmacy again.
By the way it was the first time I had ever been there.
I think we all need get back to the basics as a society. Unfortunately, our ER’s are overloaded with patients who suffer from chronic pain conditions that in reality, require pain medication from time to time. You will more likely than not receive the needed medication because you will be referred to see your PCP for your care. Let’s face it, the Aspirus Clinic is so understaffed with doctors, that it can be nearly impossible to get in with your PCP when you need to. This whole local medical system around us just exacerbates the prescription street drug problem we have in our community. For those suffering with chronic conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, inflammatory bowel disease, interstitial cystitis, it become necessary for them to be under the care of several specialists who routinely manage their pain. However, I have heard it is even more difficult to obtain the medicine you need when you have several doctors, as each doctor pushes that responsibility onto the next doctor, and so on. Meanwhile, the patient suffers and ends up in the ER because they cannot tolerate the pain any longer. Then the ER tells them to see their PCP for their pain management. It’s a vicious circle that seems to be becoming more and more prevalent in our area. We do need to take notice to this, because the problem does spill over and exacerbate the prescription drug problem in our community….which in turn will affect each and every one of us. Needing pain medication from time to time does not make you a gutter druggie.
The fact remains that if a person is diagnosed with a condition by a Doctor, then the Doctor is obligated to treat that condition whether it be antibiotics or PAIN MEDS. Medical Pro must think that he/she makes the rules when he/she states “How do you feel about drug screens and then getting turned into the police….go a head make our day you fool!” What people do in their private life is pretty much none of the doctors business unless it pertains to the diagnosis. Drug screening at the doctor’s office is ridiculous and a waste of time and money IF there is diagnosis that supports the patient’s need of pain meds. What is the emergency room going to do, make everyone who walks through the door pee in a cup to do a drug screen so then based on that test they can decide whether to treat them or call the cops? DR you make me want to puke with your judgmental attitude, unless you are the original posters Doctor, I don’t think you have the right to say that he/she is trying to fool his/her Doctor into giving him/her pain meds because his/her pain could very well be real. Oh yea and to Medical Pro I always thought that people who were in the medical field were supposed to have compassion and want to help people, and well you just seem very angry. I feel sorry for you.
why do we not have a dependable and honest poditrist in antigo?
i will never go back to him i only have 3 toes left
