Antigo Fourth of July Parade

Antigo Fourth of July Parade

I really enjoyed the Antigo Fourth of July Parade.  It was a lot of fun seeing all the entries and all of the excited families in Red, White, and Blue.  Everyone was very courteous, friendly, and having a nice time.  The only unfortunate thing I noticed was the fact that some of the people with horses rode them down the parade route prior to the parade, pooping throughout the route.  All of the entries then had to drive through the mess.  Also, several people along the route then had to sit/stand in front of a pile of poop for the entire parade.

To those people who made the mess:  Next year, please don’t ‘poop on our parade.’

In a “normal” parade, all the horses ride together, immediately followed by people with shovels and a wagon (or garbage can on wheels) to clean up any mess that the horses leave behind. Good idea for next year??? Maybe a 4-H group could volunteer to do the dirty work; or the Boys & Girls Club.

It would have been nice if they would have had a marching band and not just the one riding on the semi trailer…..

I bet if all of you were given a 5 pound brick of gold, you’d find something wrong about it. You have to face the fact this is Antigo, its not New York, Chicago, or the Rose Bowl parade. Why didn’t you volunteer to make the parade better?

Bware! says, “Maybe a 4-H group could volunteer to do the dirty work; or the Boys & Girls Club.”

Looks like an entry-level show business opportunity, to me! How about having local politicians join in the clean-up, instead of waving to the crowd from convertibles, since they are more experienced at producing the working materials than the 4-H groups would ever be!

‘simplemind’ – I WAS in the parade, handing out goodies for the kids, promoting our club which raises money to help people in the community. :-) It is just common sense to have the horses at the end of the parade. ‘beware’ is correct about the cleaning up part, but it should be done by the people who entered the horses who made the mess. Again, common sense.

Ya big sillies. Fire trucks come at the end of the parade… or Santa. Horses are scattered throughout many parades… oftentimes at the beginning. I’d prefer the scattering, because I think it would be fun to take bets on how many kids would pull candy off the street after a horse had pooped on it.
The horse folk should have someone walking with them to clean up any messes… although I think having local politicians clean up is a great idea!

I think having politicians clean up horse manure would say more to me than anything that spews out of their mouths.
