Antigo Daily Journal downplaying local drug busts

Antigo Daily Journal downplaying local drug busts

Not a big surprise, but, apparently Freddie thinks that the Antigo drug bust has gotten more attention than it deserves, according to his “Bits and Pieces” on January 28… http://antigodailyjournal.com/full.php?id=14142

Why would the events create a “tough time” for the Journal?  Are these people harrassing them? Or does Freddie just have a hard time publishing not-so-flattering news about his friends or what?  News is news and last time I checked, the Journal is a NEWSpaper.

Freddie needed to “reminded” by a friend that authority figures & drug charges are something that should be reported.

  1. jaja says:

all reports about the drug dealers etc should be on the FRONT PAGE NOT HIDING IN HOPES PEOPLE WILL NOT SEE IT, THIS IS CRITIAL NEWS

  2. average joe says:

maybe he wants to be kind to the families and not spread rumors like this blog which people think is a reputable place to get news. this site is like the a$$ hole of journalism compared to the ADJ. which is sad when you realize that the ADJ isnt the best place for news either.

  3. average joe says:

@jaja you just feed off that crap. Dont you? find something better to read about, like the Pakistani spy agency that is giving information to the taliban or is that not juicy enough of a story compared to the people who were selling marijuana among themselves in small town usa.

  4. self employed says:

How about the teacher in California that sexual assaulted 28 kids another Sandusky

  5. Jerry Muelver says:

    Another Freddie gem – http://www.antigodailyjournal.com/full.php?id=14112

“An investigation into charges in a local marijuana case have certainly gotten out of control.”

Wow. An investigation “out of control”! What the hell are they smoking at ADJ when they lay such editorial assessments into news stories?

  6. h.hill says:

Good work Freddie, this whole thing is out of control. If they harrassed everyone in this town that has experimented in his/her life, 70% of the people in this town over the age of 18 would have a problem.

  7. moving forward says:

Maybe Hill is right, maybey 70 % of the people these days feel they have to use just to fit in anymore

  8. simplemind says:

This site IS NOT a news site.. Was never intended to be. Rumors ARE a bad thing, but whatever was said on here, would have been said someplace else. If Antigo Buzz goes away, there are other places to post the same nonsense. Usually if one goes down, 3 more will start up.

Freddy doesn’t care about damaging the families who aren’t members of his Country Club. He will burn them to the ground.

70% of Antigo is probably on entitlements, I guess people tend to get bored having all that time on their hands.. They have to experiment inhaling, smoking, or snorting different things.

  9. jaja says:

joe, quite the contrary i want all those cocaine and pot dealers cleaned out of our one time respectable city, maybe when all their names are out it might embarrass them and get out of town!! if they are not too drugged up to read and understand what is written about them!!

  10. Really says:

Did any of us expect anything less from Freddie? He golfs with some of these guys and is not going to run a big story on them. If you are a local Dr though he will plaster your face all over the place and then the investigation is important.

  11. grandma4 says:

just a reminder to Mr Berner….no matter what is allowed in southern California…these men who are accused reside in Wisconsin where this drug is considered ILLEGAL.

  12. Love the Buzz says:

It is evident how Mr. Berner feels about the drug issue here in Antigo. In Vern Cahak’s letter posted 1-31-12, he credits the ADJ for responsible reporting. Mr. Berner was quick to let us know that Mr. Cahak had been affiliated with the journal for more than forty years! Hmm! The Wausau Herald, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel seems to not see eye to eye with Mr. Berner. The story of Antigo’s drug bust made first page in both papers.
    .

  13. Love the Buzz says:

    P.S. Wausau Herald issue 1-29-12
    Milwaukee Journal Sentinel issue 1-30-12

  14. Not Politically Correct says:

Actually Lund was on the front page of the ADJ 1/23/12.

Not one of the people charged with cocaine or marijuana possession, etc. belong to the Bass Lake Country Club. A couple of the men charged do golf there, but it is a public course. Anyone can golf there. Just ask Muelver.

If Fred golfs, it is maybe twice a year. And as far as the Cahak letter to the editor, of course they have to mention he worked there. I believe they call it a “disclaimer”.

  15. Love the Buzz says:

I believe that Sheriff Greening remarked that this is just the “tip” of the iceberg. Time will tell. Won’t it???

  16. C'MON MAN!!! says:

Greening has no part of the investigation anymore. THe state DOJ and DEA are not keeping him in the loop. He has been told to stay out of the media and he goes on CNN…what a fool!

  17. Really says:

How come our local DA is prosecuting these crimes anyways? If Greening is out of the investigation and the DEA and DOJ are involved then a DOJ attorney would be the special prosecutor I would think?

  18. trader charlie says:

they both should be taken to the “woodshed” for printing AND publishing such drivel. the laws the law,…

  19. Helen says:

Gosh you all can be tough on people! LOL! Thats why I will not use my real name on here, you all would roast me!

  20. onehorsetown says:

I have to agree with Fred..it has been blown way out of proportion. Yes,
members of our schools were arrested for marijuana…but the supposed
“drug trafficking ring” that this has been labeled is crazy. A bunch of dudes smoking pot in their homes and occassionally getting it for the their friends is hardly an association with some Cartel sized drug scheme.
it is however shocking to learn that is was a principal & coach who was involved, and that is the jaw dropping news that has attracted national attention. As far as the ongoing investigation goes, doesn’t anyone else think it is strange to roll over on your friends “down the chain”? I thought they look for the big Kahuna, the major dealer, not the guy who buys an ounce of pot a year. There isprobably more prescription drugs being handed around this town than pot…think about it…it too is illegal, but no one has a problem when someone has a bad back and needs a little vicodin to diminish the pain…and then the recreational junkies, there is another story altogether. Go easy on Fred, The ADJ love it or hate it is our town’s long standing newspaper, and a smart businessman would not exploit families in the town prior to justice being served, which aas you know has not happened yet. I am sure you will get your front page story once this all shakes out.

  21. Anon says:

@onehorsetown – The issue on this that bothers me is that when it’s any other people, Fred has no problem making it front page news and blowing it up to be a bigger deal than it actually is.

  22. Really says:

Fred is a hypocrite plain and simple. The issue with these drug busts is not just what you see being charged. These guys have been ratting out each other to get their charges lowered. There is more to what they were doing than we all see them being charged with right now.

  23. Helen says:

I do not know Freddie he is older than me, but I did see him in action many years ago in a bar and I thought he was a jerk. I took my ex-husbands grandma out. This old girl loved to party and socialize she lived well into her nineties. I think it kept her young. Well I watched him treat her like a jerk, he was not respectful to this poor hard working social lady at all, I wanted to slap his arrogant face. What is the reward in being a big jerk to a sweet old lady who enjoys her cocktails?

  24. Really says:

Freddy enjoys his cocktails too so he should have kept his mouth shut.

  25. h.hill says:

Hey really, you REALLY need to SHUT YOUR MOUTH! There has been 3 people charged, all these guys on “the list”, ZERO have been charged. I love seeing your posts allover all these different topics, you complain about people starting rumors on the whole REFUGE RUMOR topic, but then come on this principal topic and start rumors every other post. Who gives a shit if freddy enjoys his cocktails, he’s an adult correct? You don’t like the ADJ, CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION! It’s people like you that have blown this whole “drug ring” way up because of your countless rumors, get a life!

  26. Really says:

@ h.hill. Can you point out the rumors you think I started or spread? You have not seen me write a name of anyone not involved in any of this and if you don’t like what I write then don’t read it. Pretty simple isn’t it? You are one of the guys that likes to tell everyone else that this is being made a bigger deal than it really is and these guys didn’t do anything. You know we all laugh at you as each one of these do gooders gets charged and you look like a bigger as, if that’s possible?

As for your buddy Freddy. I was making the same remark about him that you just made towards me. He has no place being rude to an elderly woman because she likes her cocktails. And im guessing if she elderly she is an adult too huh? And I would cancel my subscription to the ADJ but what would my pets go to the bathroom on and how would I start a fire to keep warm?

Now that we have this all cleared up you can sleep better, that is after you finish making the list of my rumors.

  27. YaddaYaddaYadda says:

@ Really….I love it! Your whole last statement is right on! Anyone who thinks this entire situation ISN’T a big deal has some serious issues. I don’t care what people thought of these men in their ‘former life’ (aka, pre-marijuana status). They could be a wonderful and loving husband, great parent, an upstanding citizen of the community, pet lover, fisherman, nature lover, fast food junkie, church elder or WHATEVER. The fact remains that when these men are all prosecuted and found guilty of the drug crimes they are charged with….the only name that will follow them to their grave is INMATE!! Many followers on this site say how mean we are to talk about these people like this. Baloney!! They brought this crappola on themselves. They had the chance to stop or, God forbid, NOT START IN THE FIRST PLACE. I’m sick to death of all the whiners out there asking for leniency because they’re still ‘good people.’ They’ve not only crapped on themselves, they’ve drug their families, friends, the community, other teachers throughout the area who abide by the laws and the school children and parents, through the mud and basically slapped them all in the face. Damn right they should feel ashamed but they probably don’t. Their remorse is a good act simply because THEY GOT CAUGHT! Truly evil people.

  28. Really says:

Yadda I hear you. I mean the resignation letter had no apology or any remorse what so ever? Just an simple I quit.

  29. h.hill says:

    Evil people? looool

  30. really says:

Yes they are evil people for bringing this crap on our community.

  31. h.hill says:

LOOOOL, your definition of evil is funny, love to hear how you would describe a murderer…

  32. jeff says:

Wow, i have to agree…Hitler, now he was evil…Some guys smoking some grass, far from evil, and if that was the case…Well then Antigo is highly populated with evil people…@really, just from your remarks, i’m guessing you’re quite young, and don’t know alot of people in this town…Not putting you down in any way, just saying you obviously don’t know the Antigo community very well…

  33. Really says:

Jeff I am in the age group of yours and H.Hills pot head buddys. Just a little younger but somehow I grew out of that before I was 20. I know it’s hard for you dope smokers to understand what is going on here as the years of living in a smoke filled room have stunted your maturing process but 20 years from now it will all make sense to you both.

Jeff on a side note I noticed that Hill got into your weed batch because he has moved up from LOOOL to your level of LOOOOL. You guys better be careful or you will use up all the Outs and all you will be left with is the Laughs and the Louds.

  34. jeff says:

@really, from starting rumors to personal attacks, keep it classy pal…I don’t know hill, don’t know if he smokes pot, don’t care if he does…I on the other hand do not, so i would appreciate it if you’d stop trying to start rumors about someone you don’t even know…

  35. Really says:

Oh brother Jeff do you need some Kleenex to deal with the trauma of the personal attack? Give me a break. How many more miles do you two have left with the rumor thing? The tank has to be getting low or close to running on fumes by now.
You know what they say bought not being able to take the heat.

  36. Bob says:

I am rally amazed at the vitriol on this site. Though people are afforded their freedom to speak their mind, something needs to be said about the nature of the little town of Antigo itself.

Jim Bradley was kind to call our beloved little town a “sturdy” little town. What he hinted at in that phrase is that Antigo has always been a bit on the shambling side. Loggers, farmers, blue collar workers have always informed our beloved place.

After I left our little burg, I had a bit of a shock that the rest of the world was not

I am really amazed at the vitriol on this site. Though people are afforded their freedom to speak their mind, something needs to be said about the nature of the little town of Antigo itself.

Jim Bradley was kind to call our beloved little town a “sturdy” little town in his brilliant book about the flag raisers. What he hinted at in that phrase is that Antigo has always been a bit on the shambling side. Loggers, farmers, blue collar workers have always informed our beloved place.

When I was a young man laying waste in our beloved burg, I witnessed many an indulgence that today you modern-day prohibitionists would take as debauchery. Bongs and pipes and bags and rolling papers were the accoutremont of the day. So many people were smoking the demon weed that it was being given away, while downstairs our older fathers and mothers were drinking their fill of the libations de jour. I once smoked a jont outside of a place long leveled while my father drank inside, then joined him for a brew. I loved my father and he died a sainted man. We shared a passion for the Packers and a brew.

To disparage Mr. Lund ignores not only his commitment to the community but it ignores the rowdy past of our town. John Lund was doing no harm to our children by smoking a bit of the demon weed. He was not smoking at work. He didn’t offer any temptations to our children, and he is a hell of a good human being. You should be celebrating this man as one who was willing to stay in a backward little town to be a leader of the young. he has not molested anyone nor has he ever been accused of improprieties at work. You were lucky to have this man in your employ for so many years.

After I left our little burg, I had a bit of a shock that the rest of the world was not

  38. Bob says:

Sorry for the double post. The site has a few bugs two work out. Please remember peace to all.

  39. Bob says:

    “to”

    Which includes an edit button

  40. jeff says:

Well Said Bob, that’s the same Antigo i grew up in, and what a great town it WAS…I feel the same way about Bomber as well. He cared more about his students and community than he did himself, and now he’s a monster for enjoying his free time…
