Drug testing should be a violation of our rights
I have understood that the reason the laws were drawn up the way there were is because the Government can not tell us what we can and can’t ingest. That would be a violation of our rights. So, instead they created the laws so that it is illegal to POSSESS drugs, MANUFACTURE drugs, etc., but, not INGEST drugs.
With that being said, shouldn’t it also be a violation of our rights to be drug tested? If no one has a right to tell us what we can and can’t ingest then how is drug testing legit? It ASSUMES the fact that if you have drugs in your system, then at some point you POSSESSED them, and so you broke the law. This is completely ridiculous to me.
Another thing that is ridiculous is how the drug companies have created synthetic heroin and many other variations of drugs that resemble our current “illegal” drugs. It’s OK for people to be on those because they are prescribed. Not much different than medical marijuana in my opinion.
I think our government is too big as it is, and we should not be controlled by them in this manner. If we want to kill ourselves with drugs, we should be able to. It should be our right.
Just for the record, I am NOT a crackhead.

I do think that random drug testing of the average Joe should be illegal. I do not think it is a problem testing those on state or federal aid. If you have money for drugs then you do not need to be asking for aid. If you really need help then you don’t have money to waste on drugs.
The government should not tell you what you should put into your bodies, or who you should screw. (pardon the language)..
But should your addictions become a danger to yourself, or others, don’t ask the government for help.
An employer has a right for you to take a drug test. You don’t want a coke head flying a plane or working in a factory where one wrong move could cut someone’s hand off.
If your on aid, you should not be on drugs.
not only test for drugs …also booze!!!!! that kills including the unborn babies
Hahahahaha! You almost had me there. Where’s Ashton? Where is he? Is this Punk’d?
but you see.. Booze is taxed. The person on entitlements is giving some of that money back..
so its ok as long as it is taxed simplemind?
We should also require all politicians to take a polygraph test. When will all this stop? FREEDOM, that is our right. Do we really need more goverment in our lives?
i agree rosie. well put!! swamp look in the mirror!!!
Sometimes some of the drug testing policies amuse me just a bit. One of the employees from a local glass bending company here admitted they were warned 5 days prior that they would be tested. Somehow it kindof defeats the purpose in testing.
If all politicians took lie detector tests we wouldn’t have any left. But I still think they should.
ok,…this argument has been around forever, and it will not go away anytime soon. if most of us have to be tested, then by god, all of us should be tested.
Are you people seriously complaining about taking a random drug test? The ones who complain about it must have something to hide. I have nothing to hide. The company I work for does random testing…I had 2 done last year. Never complained about it. When I used to work at the cheese plant years ago, they didn’t do it as often as they should have..there were a few that should have been fired which a few years later a guy I worked with was fired from his job at a different company in wausau for not showing up for work..turns out he was the one that was involved with the drug overdose of the Merrill girl a few years ago. I think those on welfare should even be tested…weekly at random. If it is found in their system then take away the food stamps and whatever else they get that WE the taxpayers pay for. It would be worth it to make them take it when it comes back positive.
I wouldn’t have a problem at all with random drug testing for everyone, the problem is what are you going to do with the junkies that always fail?
I don’t understand the people that are ok with random drug testing for everyone. Do those people also think it’s ok for the police to come search your house if they happen to be in the neighborhood?
The loss of privacy is a major issue in this country, both physical privacy and online privacy. Too many young people are becoming desensitized to giving out too much information, too many young people feel the government has a right to intrude on their privacy, our 4th Amendment is under attack. I’m shocked yet happy the US Supreme Court recently ruled that police still need a search warrant to attach GPS tracking devices to personal property.
What’s wrong with forcing the police to get a warrant? We put it into our Constitution to keep the government out of our property yet so many people want to surrender that right, no questions asked. Makes no sense.
Private businesses can drug test however they see fit. The government should drug test for positions where impairment is a serious threat to other individuals (pilot, heavy machinery operators, etc). Everyone else should have their privacy.
And for those who think it’s ok to drug test those individuals that receive aid: who is going to pay for the tests? you can’t make someone who passes a drug test pay for it, that’s not fair and probably not constitutional. also, who is going to take care of the children of those that fail the drug test? the answer to both of those questions is the taxpayers. i’m pretty certain no one here likes paying taxes.
such a low percentage of people that receive government aid use drugs it’s not worth it. as a matter of fact, those that receive aid are LESS LIKELY than the general public to be drug users. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/28/us/florida-few-drug-users-among-welfare-applicants.html
everyone needs to be educated on this.
privacy is a right.
Because I have never taken illegal drugs and never will I just think, go ahead and test me. I’m clean!
I think we are all pretty much just saying random drug testing for people receiving any type of govt assistance. if you have money for drugs then you do not need mine to live on.
really ~ that is the point. Some of these welfare cases can afford to buy their smokes, alcohol, and get their drugs but can’t even afford to buy clothes for their kids or even take care of them properly. Those are the ones who ruin it for the rest of them. Not saying all of them are bad, just some care more about themselves than others. Those are the ones who need to be tested. And yes if they fail then their kids should be taken away and out in the care of other family or foster care then their aid should be taken away and be allowed to receive it again! If you have nothing to hide than you shouldn’t have a problem with providing your sample!
The obvious problem here is that the “authorities” have not figured out how to test us at work when we are “under the influence.” They choose to otherwise deny our rights to privacy and invade our “personal” lives to further thier own pursuit of justice; instead of testing the root of the problem they choose to seek redemption by blaming the residents and taxapayers that delicatley prepare our constituents for a life of public scrutiny and judgement.

If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to” -Thomas Jefferson “An unjust law, is just a law in name, and is no law at all” -St. Augustine
Obama & Harper, cold war relics, embarrassing themselves, and shaminng the rest of us, kicking the farcical ‘war on drugs’ can down the road… to further drug abuse & violence, inherent to underground/prohibited economies.
NEWSFLASH: Prohibition still DOESN’T WORK. Listen up Harpo & Obomber… IF you WANT drug abuse and organized crime to take hold in society, then by all means, make drugs illegal and pay heavily-armed, trigger-happy goons to interdict drug (ab)use with militarism and violence. umm that’ll work, huh? nevermind that history has already shown us otherwise.
the ‘regimes of violence’ we create, drug warriors vs gangsters, it’s those f*#king clowns who end up doing far more harm to our society than any drug ever could. slaughtering people over drugs & money. can we not do any better? prohibition creates criminals, it creates the conditions necessary for organized criminals and drug warrior cops to go about ‘the business’ of making war on innocent people, which is really what this is all about in the first place. this phony war on drugs is never to be ‘won’ – war is business.
in the end, substance abuse is really a medical issue; and a social problem. a failure of social policy. cops, courts & cartels, the violence & killing… the growing ‘prison industry’. not necessary. we’re creating more problems than we’re solving. illicit drugs are more abundant and easier to get than they’ve ever been. as intended.
practically speaking, our tax dollars should be ‘invested’ in schools and programs of social uplift – rather than enriching gangsters & warlords, prison industry CEOs and weapons dealers. the perpetual ‘war’ only prolongs the suffering. the awful drug war is hurting everyone. the asinine policy of prohibition INVITES CRIME, it certainly does nothing to resolve it.
Einstein himself acknowledged the folly of prohibtion in 1921:
“The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for government and law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this.” – Albert Einstein
and as Judge Gray (a former drug warrior himself with numerous convictions under his robe) said:
“Drug Prohibition is the Golden Goose of Terrorism. If our government really wanted to do something damaging to terrorist groups around the world, they would take the one step that would do that: REPEAL DRUG PROHIBITION” – Judge Jim Gray
