According to reports in the Antigo Daily Journal, the Hardees in
Antigo is now closed. It sounds as though no warning was given
and the manager was not commenting on the situation.

KFC Building was Demolished Today

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

The old Kentucky Fried Chicken building was laid to rest today. The operation had been closed in 2007 and the building sat empty since then. There had been rumors of a Taco Bell coming to that location, but, according to the article in the Antigo Daily Journal today, it sounds more like the location will again be a KFC. You can read the Journal article HERE.

************UPDATE**************
According to the article in the Antigo Daily Journal, KFC and Taco Bell will be returning to Antigo.  You can view the article HERE.

Fifth Ave Closed For Construction

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

About 4 blocks of Fifth Avenue is blocked off to thru traffic for construction. The blocked section runs from Lincoln Street to Superior Street. A detour is running down Deleglise Street to Century Ave to Hwy. 45/64.

As reported in the Journal, this will be a quick project – hope that doesn’t mean that it will need to be redone in a few years.

The annual Market Street Fest is set for June 21st.

Antigo’s New Playground in Progress

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

There has been 3 or 4 stories printed in the Antigo Journal in recent weeks about the the new playground being built at the corner of Field St. and Sixth Ave. The park, according to the Journal, is being funded only by volunteers, and the land is/was city-owned. The project is being worked on and volunteers are needed. You can see the recent Journal articles about the park here:

Change of Plans for Park Near Waukesha Bearings

Friday, April 4th, 2008

The park that was planned to be built by Waukesha Bearings is now going to move to the other side of the road, into the FLOOD PLAIN ! Don’t forget to take your swim suit, if you plan to visit.
Why? Waukesha Bearings wants to add on, so the city bent over and gave them that piece of property and changed the plan again. Only problem is, and most do not know it, but Waukesha is looking to sell out! Currently they are still producing, and assuming that they get a buyer, they will add on, otherwise we will have another big empty building.

*********UPDATE***********

You can read more about the new playground/park HERE.

Walmart Remodeling – like it or not?

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

So far, I am not impressed with the remodeling going on in Walmart. I think it looks terrible. It also annoys me when they are working during the store hours. I thought that was why they temporarily changed the hours?

I am glad to see some jobs available and being filled for the remodeling project, even if it is just temporary.

Future Rollerskating Rink in Antigo

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

AntigoBuzz Home

Remember the Roller Rink in Antigo?

Remember how much fun you had there?

Do you want your children and grandchildren to have those memories too?

Well!! Here’s your chance!

We need the community involvement to insure there is the support we need to start up a roller rink/laser tag/family fun center in the town of Antigo. We already have the support of the Boys and Girls Club, the local middle school and many business owners. Now we need your input as a parent, grandparent or community member.

The center will be a family oriented, safe and secure place that will not allow smoking, drinking, or rowdy behavior. We will be open at convenient hours with room for birthday parties at a reasonable rate and special events and hours that will serve all age groups.

If you would like to get involved in showing your support please post your comments on this blog. Proposed opening date Spring 2008.

We will gladly answer any questions to the best of our ability about your concerns about this project.

Lets get excited about this ANTIGO NEEDS THIS!!!

Thank you for your support and hope to see you at the rink in the future.

Vulcan Brunswick Closes Today

Tuesday, January 15th, 2008

AntigoBuzz Home

According to news reports, the Vulcan Brunswick plant in Antigo is now closed and sent it’s employees home today. So, another mark on the board for Antigo businesses closing. It shocks me that apparently the employees were not warned of the closure. The Journal reported that people came to work like any other day and were greeted by security officers who then sent them home. They will be receiving pay for the next 60 days, and severance pay will be forthcoming.

70 jobs are lost. How is Antigo going to cope with this!? It is one thing to have a small cafe close where there are a few employees, but, a plant like Vulcan with 70 employees is really sad. Where are those 70 people going to find jobs in Antigo right now? There just aren’t any!

And what will become of the plant now? Will we be knocking that down in the near future also?

There is a good article on this HERE.
