Disgusting Eyesore at S. Virginia Street & Gruber

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I myself have made more than one call to the mayor’s office complaining about the house on the corner of Gruber and S. Virginia St.  To no avail, nothing has been done, and the house still stands. Well, minus the roof as of lately.  I’ve also made a few calls to the county health nurse, that’s also gotten no response.  It’s really discouraging that my grandchildren’s sandbox is now the neighborhood liter box.  There is more than a great deal of ferrel cats roaming around that house, as well as the entire neighborhood.  This poses not only a blight on the neighborhood, but a health hazard as well.  One has to wonder if that one lone house has the ability to affect the property values of the entire block???  What does it take before the city will step in and do something about this matter?

Eyesores – the old SuperAmerica (SA)

This place should just be tore down. It is a terrible eyesore. Being right downtown makes it that much worse. I have been in Two Angels restaurant more than once hearing people complain about it. I’m sure by now the underground tanks would have to be updated before ever being used again. I don’t imagine this would be cheap. And if not being used as a gas station, the tanks would probably have to be pulled out of the ground as a safety measure. Before you know it, the taxpayers will be paying the bill for demolition. How sad is that!?

Mike’s Service Center – Superior Street

This place has been an eyesore for years now. It stumps me that the City doesn’t make him clean it up. My guess is that he is on a government board of some type or something like that. I would also guess that he is allowed to leave his “junk” sitting there because he has a car dealers license. This is just ridiculous to me. Even if he would move his cars around and pull out the weeds, it would help. The Antigo Police has threatened local residents to remove cars and trucks on their property that are not registered, or they will be fined, so how is this any different? I think something should be done about it – maybe he needs to get fined from the City! It makes Antigo look bad.

UPDATE

The excerpt below is from the Minutes of the following City Committee – This is a joke – Bill Brandt being commended for the progress being made at the Schilcher property on Superior Street – What progress? Looks like the same junkyard that it has for years? -
